Girls playing with their hair?

What does it mean when a girl plays with her hair when talking to a specific person? My friend seems to think it has some meaning behind it... but I'm not so sure. Does it generally have any meaning?

Ehh... it just seems to me to be a nervous habit. Like people bite their fingernails, or tap tables with their fingers, etc. If she is doing this it may mean 1 of 2 things:

1) she is bored
2) she is nervous for some reason

According to The Learning Channel, it means she likes you... If that's the case, a number of girls I know like every guy and likely girl out there, because they twirl their hair all the time... I twirl my hair, too, actually... hahaha

I don't think it necissarily means anything... various nervous behavior can stem from an interaction with someone you are attracted to, but it can come from other things... The same can be said of physical signs, such as raised temperature, quickened heartbeat, sweat, etc... All of these things (and the ones I didn't mention) can have other reasons behind them than attraction.

If she only does it to you, or only to a couple guys, then you may want to consider something, but at the same time don't rush into it... She may be attracted to you very mildly, but if you pursue her at that point she'll no longer be attracted to you... It's retarded ("I'm attracted to you as long as you aren't attracted to me!") but it is true... So, don't go crazy if a girl you like is flipping her hair or whatever...

I'm actually mildly interested in about 3 girls right now, only one of them I trip over my tongue (it's not like she's the one I'm most interested in, I honestly dont' know why it's only her I do that to) Keep in mind even if she likes you, she may like 2 other guys too, and none of you enough to accept a person's pursuit...

umm not nessisarily(sp?)

I play with my hair all the time, it's just a habit lol. Of course there might be girls who do it because they like someone *shrugs* but not me.

You really can't derive too much significance from a single gesture. People who study these things say that they look for gesture "clusters", and that even then their conclusions are probabilistic, rather than definitive.

I just do it for no particular reason.

Once in a while, I will, but it's not because I'm feeling anything particular. It's just that I don't know what else to do with my hands.

It's mainly a nervous gesture, iki.

I'd have to agree with the majority here. Hair-tosseling is mostly a subconscious action taken under a state of anxiety or supreme boredom similar to nail-tapping and foot-wiggling.
Personally, I do it when I'm content and lost in my thoughts. Usually when people disrupt this little habit of mine, I continue to play with my hair as I talk to them.

<_< ehh...

I also have a nervous habit with messing with my hair from time to time... it's no big deal... unless there is some sort of secret underground girl coding system involving "hair-signs"

The same reason why guys have a tendency to put their hands in their pockets when they talk,it doesn't mean anything just that they don't have anything else to do with their hands or are rather too nervous.

I play with my hair because it's a habit when I'm bored or thinking. It's really curly so it twists around my finger in a little ringlet thing and I can amuse myself with it XD;; Honestly, it's just a boredom thing...

Generalizations can be nasty buggers. Besides, I don't flip my hair because I like someone. I have an extremely ticklish neck, I preen as much as a cat sometimes, and I like the smooth texture when my ends are completely fried.

Heck, my friends make fun of me and call me a Pantene commercial.

Anywho, those little signs can vary sooo much. So tread with caution, usually means little to nothing anyway.

The best way to find out if a girl really likes you is still to ask her,but you have to be prepared to get shot down.

Well you can't tell by just looking,if you want to know how a girl feels you have to get the nerve up to talk to her.

Yeah it;s mainly habitual..most girls have been twirling they're hair since they were toddlers (myself namely) and I have a friend who twirls her hair all the time no matter who she's talking to. So don't get too excited when if you;re a guy and a girl twirls her hair around you. But then again, every girl is different.

Perhaps it is best we males remain ignorant. After all, if we actually understood women, what would have to spend our long post mid-life crises evening pondering on...
