Ever Get Confused For Someone Of A Different Race?

I wonder how many people on this forum because of their last name have ever gotten confused with a person of a entirely different race before.

My Uncle used to drive a bus and he had one or two passengers ask him what part of the Middle East he was from. Neverminding the fact that my ancestry is almost entirely European and very Caucasian.
Rumor has it there was once an affair in the family and my Grandfather and his older sister ended up partially Jewish as a result O_o

"I LAOTION, YOU IDIOT."
"The ocean? What ocean?"
Also, I get mistaken for a black person all the time. I see the resemblance but I don't think people have any right to point it out.
I mean. Some of you should remember the comparison I did between myself and Gary Coleman a while back. That one still holds up.

My step-dad's Chinese (well 3/4ths and 1/4th Irish) but he's been mistaken for things like Hawaiian, but usually native Canadian :/ They always wave to him and stuff I guess thinking he's one of their own and he waves back, turns to me and goes "I don't even know who the heck they are..." :/ I just think it's funny^^ Guess sometimes it's a good thing to get away with resembling another race: the benefits of them being nice to your and stuff^^
As for me, I tell people I'm of the Italianese, and no one's ever really surprised^^

Nope, but my brother's first name is one most common among blacks. Nobody's ever mistaken his race though who has actually met him...I wouldn't know about anyone who just made an assumption on his name.

I've been mistaken for an illegal immigrant before, if that counts.

HANK: So, are you Chinese or Japanese?
KAHN: I live in California last twenty years, but first come from Laos.
HANK: Huh?
KAHN: Laos. We Laotian.
BILL: The ocean? What ocean?
KAHN: We are Laotian. From Laos, stupid! It's a landlocked country in Southeast Asia. It's between Vietnam and Thailand, okay? Population 4.7 million.
HANK: So, are you Chinese or Japanese?

I've had people think I'm from Russia or thereabouts. I think it's the accent. Recently, too, somebody thought I looked like I was (iirc) Bulgarian or something like that.
I've mistaken Ingemar for a nekoyoukai-human hybrid, but only due to a certain mask.

Despite my whiter-than-milk skin, when I was a waitress at a Cambodian-owned restaraunt, I was "confused" with other waitresses all the time, despite the fact I was 6 inches taller and a good 12 shades lighter. I think people were mostly trying to save face.

Was mistaken for Japanese, Chinese, Mexican, etc.

I'm usually mistaken for having blonde-hair and blue eyes, because I do, except I don't.

My last name is really German, my skin is white, I have blonde hair and blue eyes, and I'm 6'8". If I'm mistaken for someone not European-ethnic, I'll have to laugh.

If I act exactly like one of my black friends, does that count? (Or is it that she acts like me?)
When people first heard that there was someone who had recently moved from Africa, they were taken aback when they saw me!

Eirewolf has been mistaken for both Russian and Mexican before. When I first met her, I thought she was part native american. Later on, I found out she is, in fact, part native american. What a world we live in.

We are all sort of alike one way or another^^ And with "mixed breeds" showing up everywhere, not really as diverse as it used to...

What a world we live in, indeed. We're all a little mixed up. Genetically speaking.

I'm very much white. My appearance is most often considered German, even though I have more Dutch ancestry than German. In any case, I'm just a typical white American, and I've never been confused for anything else.

I've had people think I'm Jewish... Not that I "look" Jewish, but that I apparently "act" Jewish...

Because I wear a beard and like to dress in black, some people have thought I was Orthodox Jewish, and on occasion when debating Israel I have heard the other person refer to the Israelis as my "people."

I was born in England and raised in the Philippines yet people seem to think I'm either Scottish or more commonly, Irish...
Maybe it's the red hair or something...

Hahah, I am like you, except differently.
Whenever I go to a Korean grocery store or restaurant, the people always speak in Korean to me right away. A Korean work colleague in my previous place of employment also asked "Are you Korean?"
I should probably learn to speak Korean fluently. Then I will fit right in if I ever visit Korea.

Get a hat and fool people into thinking that you're Hasidic reggae-rapper Matisyahu. Just learn to beat box and you'll be all set for signing autographs and getting free (kosher) meals!

The genesis for the idea behind this thread goes back a couple months ago when I got one of those book club thingies in the mail.Usually I get something from the Sci Fi Book Club because I used to be a member. This time however it was an African-American Book Club. What makes it hilarious is that I'm,as far as I know,100% White.Since my surname begins with a Mc I suspect that is how I ended up with the mailing.
