Hey everyone! I gots a question!!!!
OK...have any of you guys who draw, and create your own characters, ever like doodled something that you really didn't think was all that great. but after a while of flippign through your sketchbook you keep coming across this picture...and you like think of a story for it, and then this random character of yours like becomes one of your favorites?
It just happened to me... i was just curious if it's ahppened to you guys...
wow..I like use the word "like" a lot...^^;

Sorta. Jerod (my alter ego) was a VERY minor character in a story I wrote some years ago. I've more or less given up on the story, but Jerod has become my absolute favorite original creation ^^
Dunno if that really counts...but it's as close as I've come.

I like to write and draw but I'm half-baked at both. Usually when I draw something I don't like, I don't like it full-stop. But I have the tendency to almost want every drawing I do to be incorporated into my story somehow. That really doesn't work. Unless you are drawing along the same theme or something. Sometimes the more minor characters I draw do get larger roles, but certainly not main parts.

Uhhh... this sorta has happened... where I have drawn some characters on the spot creating them as characters and then liking their characters and continuing to dream up stories for them... but, I still haven't written a lot about them, yet.

Well, I drew somebody last night just for the fun of it, and now I don't really know if I'll use them for anything...But I might in a while...I don't know.

I was just doodling one day thinking about chibi-animalfied people and know he's the main character in this web comic I'm slowly constructing.

I used to do it occasionally, but nowadays I rarely do it at all.

Yeah I do it at least once a day for some random character I've created.

Well, I've had characters that I thought were really really cool, but can't draw them for squat...I guess the characters I don't draw very often are mostly the ones who are very important. I need to change that.
yay for a self-rambling post.

I've done this in a way. While doing character development, I had a character change so much from the original concept that the first and latest drawings are completely different. But I still really like the first drawing, and will probably use it for a character sometime, it just no longer fits the character and how he fits into the plot. XD
This makes me feel a little guilty about being a slacker about getting my manga drawn, heh, should do more of that. ^^;;;;
(I think I might even have the drawings up somewhere here, and could find them fairly easily if someone wants. ^^)

I know what you mean. They start taking on their own personalities and talking back, if you don't watch out.

that's actually how a lot of characters in cartoons are started

(Hah, that's how most of my favorite characters are started.)
(Most of my favorite characters/main characters in a story are born of a random/old sketch. Kaze is a good example. I like to draw the people around me during debate tournaments. So once (I think during last year's regionals), I started drawing Raiden no Kishi, and then that sketch evolved into Kaze. That's the theory anyway, becuase I don't remember how exactly I came up with Kaze, but either way he started as a random sketch.)
