RADIO DRAMA idea...
PostPosted: Wed Apr 19, 2006 6:39 pm

First of all, I must say, I love Radio Theatre. It is something that I have been passionate about for a long time now. OTR (Old Time Radio) has been an obsession of mine for years as well.
With the rise of the upcoming podcasted CAA shows... it got me to thinking: "Wouldn't it be cool to make some radio dramas?" This is actually something I have been thinking about doing for quite some time but never had as much desire to actually accomplish this as now.
MSP, MEBOECK, and PEANUT are possibly going to do this, but I'm not sure yet.
If anyone is interested in helping with this (either writing scripts, voice acting, music/sound file creation) reply to this thread or PM me. Right now female voice actors are especially needed.
The show will most likely be comedic in nature, but there may be more serious drama later down the road. Anyone with any acting experience and/or love of acting please consider this!
thank you
~Linksquest
P.S. This project (right now anway) will be independent of the CAA podcasts.

Whoa... I never agreed to do something like this... I didn't even know you were doing something like this...of course... you already know that if you would have asked me I would have said yes:lol:... LInksquest... you know me to well... by the way... I can help you write scripts if you want me too... hey... we could actually make John squared the musical a reality with this thing... of course, I don't know how we would be able to dance over the radio...

Hmm . . . sounds interesting. If you get a script together, let me know - I might like to take a shot at it.

i can help on both script writing and voice acting, but alas, i have a rather deep masculine voice, that and i can't use mic softwares that interface with other users (skype, etc.), but if all you need is like someone to do intros or narration or something, i am not only there, but i'm packin' the heat!
if you want an example of what i sound like, the link to my own podcast is in my signature

ROFL! i e-mailed you about this! don't you read your e-mails anymore!?

Thank you to all of you who have already shown an interest in this! I'm actually surprised that this many actually responded this quickly.
Yeshua-Knight, I listened to your voice on your podcast and we can definately use you possibly as an announcer/narrator or host or something of that nature.
Anyone else wanting to post a sample of your voice here please do so.

I am probably going to be doing a lot of the script writing. But I would love to have someone else to write too so I'm not doing every script. I want to echo what PQ said that WE NEED GIRL ACTORS. MSP, Peanut, LQ, and I are all guys (except for maybe MSP :p) and it wouldn't be as good to have an entire show made out of guy voices. Although I don't know how much acting I would be doing anyway if I am a scriptwriter.
BTW, mods, I think this would probably be better off in the projects/ideas forum. If you could move it there, that would be great. ^^

Hmm, I would consider lending my voice to something like this if there was a good enough script... I might actually think about putting something togther...

I've wanted to do a radio drama for... Oh, about 12 or 13 years? Since I was in 5th or 6th grade... I'm a big Adventures in Odyssey fan. Of course, no offense to anyone (especially since I haven't heard anyone act yet) but the AiO people were mostly professional actors... That doesn't necissarily mean this will be bad, but most people just plain can't act without some professional training, and I'm nearly certain the AiO people had a director to look in the face... However, I am very eager to hear what you can come up with, and maybe lend myself to it eventually.

Well believe me, we are barely even in the planning stages. As for acting quality, we may not be anywhere near proessional, but MSP, LQ, Peanut, and I all have pretty extensive backgrounds in drama, especially Peanut and LQ. As far as plot goes, I don't have anything yet. I am a pretty good writer if I have a plot to work with, but coming up with plots is not my forte. I would love to have some help with the writing, but we probably don't need to worry about that until we have some of the other details fleshed out. Also, I haven't talked to LQ about this yet, but I think we may want to have two parts to the "show." One would be a serial with a consistent plot and characters, and one would have unrelated fun shorts. If we do it that way, we could potentially have different writers all together for the different parts.

I LOVE AiO! We have like... pretty much all of the volumes in our house! haha. I grew up with it, so it's something that really exposed me to the genre of audio drama.
---
Like Meboeck said, we will need to come up with some core characters and plot line that will be the theme of this series. Right now all that we have are a few loose ideas floating around. Basically, this is the brainstorming period. Once we actually get some solid concepts down on paper we will better be able to envision the possibilities for this as well as other aspects (such as characters, scripts, and a TITLE!)
As a side note school for me, as well as many other CAA members, is getting really crazy now that we are in the final quarter of the school year. Finals, quizes, and random projects thrive on our sleepless hours. This might not actually get launched until late this year or, at the latest, Spring 2007. It all depends on how long it takes for us to get ideas, etc.
We'll also prolly have to delegate who is doing what within this (Meboeck, MSP, Peanut, and I being the main people as of now).
Any ideas are welcome!
and again thanks to all of you who are showing an interest in this! you guys rock my socks

Yay, more AiO fans! My family owns sooo many volumes of that, I think we bought all of them up until the point where they started getting. . . lame. That was mostly just recently, and some are still really good, but it's gotten kind of hit and miss. The old ones were hysterical though. Anyways, I'd be interested in seeing the script, and might consider lending my voice to the cause. . .

What we really need right now are these things:
(A) good microphone(s)
A good audio recording program
Good SFX
Funny Scripts
Willing Actors

i recommend the audio program that link antilles mentioned in the caa radio podcast announcements, that being audacity, i've used it for my own podcast since day one, it's really easy to work with and it allows you to insert audio from previously made audio sources, and you can then export it to mp3 format
as far as all the other stuff, that's more on an individual basis

I am going to make an addendum to LQ's post. In terms of scripts, LQ and I are probably going to do the majority, if not all, of the scripts for the shorts. But we definitely need someone for the serial. We have pretty much no ideas for plot. The only stipulation is that we want it to be funny. I had an idea that maybe it could be some soft of spoof mystery series, but if you have other ideas, we are certainly open to them.
Most actors will probably not get major parts in the serial because it will be easier to do if all or most of the actors can get together in person. However, we plan to do a lot of shorts, so there will always be opportunities to lend your voice.

Well as far as voice acting goes, we won't be asking for help with anything right away simply because we don't have scripts yet and we still have some details to work out. That doesn't mean are ignoring you though. Trust me, we are very grateful to have people interested, we just aren't to the stage yet time-wise where acting comes into play. The big priority right now is finding someone to develop a plot for the serial. Then development of scripts can start and then finally we will be able to get production started. So for the moment, WRITERS WANTED.

Scripts?
This was written with absolutely no planning:
(fade music in)
Vrei sa pleci dar nu ma nu ma iei
Nu ma nu ma iei, nu ma nu ma nu ma iei
Chipul tau si dragostea din tei
Mi-amintesc de ochii tai
VOICEOVER:
Welcome to town Q. Our motto is, "At least we're not town E!" The story of town Q begins with her forefathers. Or perhaps we should let Chamber of Commerce member Eliphalet Flemming tell the story?
FLEMMING:
(indistinct mumbling. Sounds intoxicated).
ADRIANA JENSEN
(Capion underneath with name, followed by "Schoolteacher" in italics) My husband and I first moved to town Q back during the Necrotic Rat Plague of '34 that broke out in Municipality Zeta. We've raised six healthy kids since then and Jeremiah wants to be an optometrist! As for the town itself, we couldn't have asked for a nicer place, right Gordon?
GORDON JENSEN
("Raconteur") I have never been so embarrased in my WHOLE LIFE, Adriana.
VOICEOVER:
Town Q is full of productive, happy people full of prospects. Just ask this gentleman sitting right next to the Government office!
MAN:
I'm being citied for violating probation.
VOICEOVER:
Local businesses are on the rise!
FACTORY WORKER:
Quick! there's been a gas leak! Run for your lives!
VOICEOVER:
And what of town Q's academics?
MARVIN FALSTAFF:
("Bookworm") Last night, Cynthia dumped me, so I got depressed and I couldn't finish my English homework cuz the ink ran on my book cuz I was crying so much... then I played Starcraft for 6 hours then some 'Toss player said "I'm in ur base killin ur d00ds" and I went "n00b" and then--
JERRY THE ANVIL:
("#52 Fullback for Town Q High Wombats") (punches Marvin)Quit broadcasting your geek rays all over the airwaves, NERD! Hey Ladies, it's Jerry! You have my number. *wink*
VOICEOVER:
Let's not forget Town Q's patriotic Tradition.
GILGAMESH P. SIMPSON:
("Dried up old prune") I shovelled crap in Iowa.
VOICEOVER:
Yes, town Q truly is a light atop a hill.
VERNON K. HUXLEY:
("Romantic") (Vernon is atop a bridge with a leg tied to a large rock) God help me....

It presents some fun ideas, but don't forget it's a radio thing. Any visual humor (captions, winking, etc.) has to be excluded.

It can be tweaked. The captions can be removed and the suicidal dude could say, like make a jump sound and go, "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAH (fades)".

I would love to help out on the VA end of things. School finishes in a week, and summer is not busy, so I have tons of free time for a few months (and could easily figure out scheduling if this goes long-term). I did interpretive events in Speech in high school for four years (duet, poetry, and humor), and have done some amatuer stage acting, so I do have at least a little experience (I can do a wide range of voices as well).
This sounds like a lot of fun.
