Procrastination hits and then what?

Postby Puguni » Sun Apr 16, 2006 8:02 pm

Because I'm in this position and I know procrastination is a bad bad thing, I was inspired to make this.

Scenario: Let's take the unfortunate student who has wiled away spring break and now has to do math homework. But it's about 10 PM when the student starts thinking about it. Would you...do what?

:O And don't nag at me or tell me that it was stupid to do, because I'm regretting it now heavily and know full well how stupid that was. ;_; No preaching please.

in the immortal words of Ricky Ricardo, I esplode. :P

Yeah, sometimes i'll stay up and try to do hw, but my effort usually sucks. (like right now o.o) However, after a certain point I just dont care anymore. Late homework is better than a miserable zombie day. And esploding is fun.

Yeah, but if you esplode (not saying I don't) then you have to 'splain it to your parents or whoever when they see your grade

It was more of a Homestar ref, but ok. XD

Right now I'm going for the late option. It's more important for me right now to learn the material while I'm fully alert instead of turning in crappy homework for credit. Also, my teacher gives us loads of extra credit; I already got 5 points just because it was my birthday.

Well, rather turn it in on time with a 1/2 effort than late, because most likely, on the day you return, the teacher is less likely to care about how hard you tried =\

See :
- On time = 3/4 chance to get a better grade because the teacher won't know the difference ...
- Late = gets points deducted before they even check for correctness

I almost esplode, but my room is already messy enough (from where I put off cleaning it up ^_^). So I decide to get my act together and do it all in one night.

When i procrastinate... it usually is really bad... like major papers I wait until the night before to finish. Siiigh. It completely sucks... cause I'm the kind of person that stays up all night trying to finish the project. Somtimes when it gets really late like 4Am... i may give up if im only half-way through.

I WANT THE INSANITY TO END! everytime I do this I end up tired and behind in my other classes cause i don't complete the homework i need to in those other classes. I SHALL OVERCOME!

Always a half-crapped job. Sometimes your teacher never checks the math homework. Sometimes they take one look and simply give you full credit. I sometimes only answer like 3 math problems, then fill the questions for the rest. And put in false "work". And I still get full credit.

Well, my reaction depends on the kind of day I'm having. XD I might esplode, but after I pick myself up, I'll do the homework. Or, I'll do half the homework and finish the rest in another class the next day, before I have math class. Or, I'll do all the homework in another class the next day. Once, I wrote an entire essay during the class that came before it was due. Also, because my mom works at my school, I'll often do the homework early in the morning, since she has to be there for early morning meetings, and I don't have my own car (or a full driver's license). And now I'm rambling. Thank goodness I don't have homework tonight. XD

Esplode.
Either that or find a way of getting out of it by starting a discussion on the mating habits of the ring tailed pheasant. If you keep at it long enough your teacher might even forget what he or she was teaching that day.

Where is the poll option where we travel back in time to the pre-procrastination era, do the work, travel back to the present, and hand it in?

Or even better, do the work whenever, then go back to the pre-due date era and hand it in?

Dudes, I'm the master of this. Take this holiday for example, I've set myself work targets for everyday and, while I have been working hard, I always seem to have a teenie bit left over by the end...which usually gets done between the hours of 12:00-2:00 in the morning :D

Hmm, I'll either stay up late to finish, or wake up really early and do it then. With the second option, I'll usuallly end up going to school late, but hey, showing up late is better than not showing up at all.

In high school, I always attempted to push an all-nighter, but it always ended up with me falling asleep in the process. Luckilly college was a bit different as the scheduling is entirely up to you (which means less time to procrastinate).

('Twould depend upon the policy for late work.)

(But regardless, I always like to have my homework on time, no matter how much I procrastinate. I remember once when I completely forgot about my physics homework (yeah, when I had to build my edible car), I didn't do it until the night before (which was about ten at night, because of debate club), and yet got one of the higher scores in class.)

(I guess I just can do my work more quickly than others, I dunno.)

I've got to stop pulling all nighters. I pulled two in a row not so long ago and it really didn't help my alertness the next day. In which I had to give a 1hr group presentation. (-. - )zzzz . I'm sure esploding is better than that.

Wait a minute.... an edible car? That's almost as crazy as a chair that can support your weight made out of newspaper! (I am in everlasting awe to Eirewolf over that one).

I agree - I like to have it in on the due date, too. I have the suspicion that sometimes it could be worth taking the extra time to polish it up, though - after an all nighter my grammar goes to the dogs and I could probably more than make up the mark reduction by polishing up the late assignment a little).

Well, most of my college classes take off points for or won't even accept late assignments, so I say do a half-crap job. I'm a terrible procrastinator. I really need to work on it. I'm one of those people that when I get the assignment, I'm all like "I'll start on it early!" Then I get home and have a chance to work on it, and I'm like, "Well, it's not due till such and such, so I don't need to do it yet.*goes off to play video game or watch tv*" Then it ends up not getting done till the day before its due, which usually turns out all right, but still it puts your stress factor way up.

My entire major is very competitive, and late work is never an option. Especially since the main class has only one big assignment. If I'm late, I'm repeating a year. The end. No options, no leniency, no sympathy.

But that's how it will be out in the real world, so I'm dealing with it and my horrible tendency toward procrastination, because if I don't fix the problem now, I'll be struggling with it for the rest of my professional career, and I don't think clients will be terribly 'understanding.' Harsh? Yes. But that's how it is, especially in my little world of architecture.

I did have this tough teacher in high school who, if you were late, immediately docked the assignment by 50% and anything you missed just went down from there. Didn't matter if you had a school excused absense or were sick or whatever, you either got it in early yourself or got done and to someone who could turn it in on time for you.

So in other words, I vote option one. But sometimes end up experiencing option three (my friends have standing instructions that any bloody explosion in the hall is me near a project deadline). Two is never a viable option, for me.

Owch. I've always gone through a very lenient school system, in contrast ^^". I only get deducted a half/quarter grade (I'm not sure which) for late assignments (I think from an A to an A-) but next year its an entire grade so I've got to get my act together now while the going is easier.

I hope all goes well for your course and the deadlines and that you don't end up having any messy explosions this year. :)
