I feel...clean.

Well, today I went to Mass. No, I'm not catholic (though I respect all those who are) but a friend of mine suggested that I attend a Mass and take the rite of Confession (some struggles that have come up was the motivation for that) And to really learn about the Oldest surviving denomination. Well, I took Confession, enjoyed the Mass, and I feel, for the first time in awhile, cleansed and whole. I just wanted to share this little joy with all of you, whom I think of often.

A question, though, to any attentive Catholic's out there: What is the date for Saint Christophers day? He's the patron saint of travelers, and I'm curious.

Thanks for listening guys(not that you had any choice) and God Bless all of you.

Zarn.

P.S.: This is not a religious debate thread! So people, play nice, and if you have any real questions or other that relate to me about this, PM me. Thanks awefullly....now, only forty more hours before I work off CAA community service. What was I punished for? By Mods from the future, for my prank on CAA! (It's started out on April 1st, and will take about 2 days to complete. Check out CAA General at 3:00 A.M. in two days, you'll love it!

Oh, and go read and review my Story, CAA 2030 A Web Travesty in Writing!

My church (LCMS) has rites for individual confession, but practically no one uses them. It's too bad, because as you've seen it can be a great relief.

That's cool, Zarn! I've never been to mass or done a confessional, so I don't know much about them, but I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed them.

That's awesome that you took the Rite of Confession! I'm a Catholic, so it's great to hear that you enjoyed the Mass!

Oh, and St. Christopher is remembered on July 25th. ^^

EDIT: Here's a site that should give you a little bit more information about good ol' Chris! http://www.catholic-forum.com/saintS/saintc05.htm

Just a note, if anyone turns this into a debate, they will be issued a strike. K? Thanks. I have never been to a confessional myself. To be honost, I have never even been to a Catholic Church before.

I've been to a Chatolic church before, once part of a youthgroup thing and once to seemy friend's sons' first communion (she and her family converted to Protestant a couple years back or so tho tho). Dunno what a confessional service is though. Care to provide a few more details?

Edit: I made a big typo. Fixed it.

Confessional is where you go and tell the priest your sins in private. Not a bad idea if you think about it and I think it's one of the things that the Reformers ought to have kept.

Actually, if you're referring to the fathers of The Reformation, the reformers did keep it. However, when it was no longer mandatory it waned in popularity to the point of virtual extinction.

Also...

:shady: That was quite uncalled for.

He might of meant that they converted to Christianity as in Catholicism. Not From Catholicism to Christianity (Which makes no sense, seeing Catholicism IS Christianity. Although many disagree)

While I won't divulge the details of our conversation(becuase if I'd wanted public confession, I could have waited till a Penance service) But it was nowhere near as dramatic or formal as they make it out to be in the movies. Instead, I went to the private chapel, sat down with the priest, and confessed all of the things which had troubled me for the last several years. He listened, and gave me some solid advice about how to handle things, asked more questions, and then prayed over me (After I asked that it be a sacramental confession). As penance (A ritual which was supposed to show that the one participating was pentient, not supposed to be a punishment like I've always heard it made out to be) He requested that I read Psalm 51 and pray it like a prayer. After all of that (Which took forty minutes or so) It was time to go (I'm living on a military base right now, and they have to change out for different chapel services) and I shook his hand and rode my bike back to my place.

I'm really glad I went. I enjoyed service (even if they don't do alot of contemporary music, alot of the hymns...wow....) And took a small fellowship afterwards. All in all, a very good day(And it wasn't even ruined by the fact that I have to pedal 40 minutes each way on my bike to get there...)

So, I'm plannng on making it my church for the duration of my stay, and enjoy and learn as much as I can. I really can't wait for saturday evening mass though...I'll get to meet the actual priest (the one who I took the Rite with fills in around this area, espcially when other priests get deployed) And aquaint myself with the church as people.

Thanks for listening to me babble on about this....I don't really share alot of personal details of my life (Because it's the net and I'm not a moron) But I enjoyed sharin
g this particular moment of my life with all of you. Ark, you might want to try it. I know I found it to be soul-relieving. Of course, I'm not going to pretend everyone needs to take it or every church will be of the same quality (This one....wooh. Gives me chills walking into the chapel. So many people, and alot of them...shone. I don't really know how else to put it.) But I personally found it wonderful and heart mending in alot of ways.

Welp, thats about all of that. Anyway, love all yall crazy mixed up people, and hope you have a blessed day.

Zarn.

P.S. Someone please read and Review CAA 2030...A Web Travesty! It's getting lonesome all by its...lonesome!

Yo, keep it tight all right? *gestures to the invisible ones*

And don't worry, MSP is right. So lets not make this a debate thread that gets me a strike, mmk? Anyway, Unless anyone has something productive to say (AndI would like to to hear it) I'd prefer that all questions directed at me and any...hm, arguements, hm, be directed Via PM. I don't really see the need for this to be a discussion thread, as I made a statement, rather then stating a question.

But thats just me. Anyway, If you have something to add, please do!

Zarn.

Can I ask why you didn't confess to God directly in Prayer?

Because the Bible says it's a good thing to confess sins with other believers. I wasn't aware confession with a priest somehow prevented you from also confessing to God in prayer. I'm pretty sure you can do BOTH.

Like I said, both of you can PM me your questions. Please don't make my outpouring to people I love and respect into a petty debate forum. It's disrespectful to everyone.

Maybe not, but since Zarn has said "KEEP THEOLOGICAL DEBATE OUT OF THIS THREAD" I decided I'd keep the thread civil. At any rate I could really care less what you meant, since I'm well aware of your hatred and don't wish to have any part of it.

Zarn, you do know you can edit your posts right?
Just posting that the threads going to be locked doesnt mean it's going to be. Have hope, maybe we can salvage this thread after all (or maybe someone can answer my question on where Confessionals are kept in a church ;).

It varies...in my church, they are right in the chapel. Some other churches have them in the basement.

[quote=" James 5:14 - 16 CJB"]Is someone among you ill? He should call for the elders of the congregation. They will pray for him and rub olive oil on him in the name of the Lord. The prayer offered with trust will heal the one who is ill -- The Lord will restore his health]

Confession is very good.

In Catholic doctrine, confessing to a Priest is at the same time confessing to God. The Priest is what we call In Persona Christe, or acting in the person of Christ for the purpose of the sacrament. That is the only reason that the Priest may give absolution. He has no power to do so of his own.

The purpose of confession is true contrition for sin. In speaking to another human being about our sins, we demonstrate what we believe is a level of contrition that is more palpable than simply confessing alone where no mortal hears. As well, another very important aspect is that the Priest councils you concerning your sin and helps you to avoid despair. I have a Priest whom I confess to regularly, face to face. He knows me and my struggles. He has seen me get rid of difficult sins before with his help and continues to council me on my other issues. His help is immeasurable and the feeling of leaving confession absolved is one which never fails to be a wonderfully freeing experience.

Just a reminder: Please keep any and all theological debate you'd like to have constricted solely to PM. Ark has already made it clear that anyone who makes this a debate will be struck, and that's not an idle threat. There have already been a couple of less-friendly-mannered posts here, and I'm very pleased to see that they were handled well by others, but they really need to stop. Thankies! Please continue, and enjoy the discussion! ^_^

The way I see it. If you cannot confess your sins to somebody in person. How the heck can you geniunely confess to God? Talking about these things and having accountability partners is a way to boost your faith and develop closer bonds with other believers.

*waves to Yumi* hello again.

Steel hit it right on the head, actually. Of course, where I normally live(and must return to eventually) there isn't a close by Catholic church, so I will not be able to take confession for long, but I will be satisfied with the time I am given to be here and to speak with him (He's a very insightful man). His insights were somewhat painful (meaning he cut through to the heart of the issue rather quick) but it is exactly what God wanted me to hear (because after I left the chapel, I just felt his Spirit in a way I haven't in a long time) and I'm glad for the experiance.

I'm glad to hear you were able to confess with a good Priest, Zarn :) The one I typically go to seems to also have a very insightful way, which can be either piercing through to something I may be denying to myself or seeing when I am troubled with despair and so giving the appropriate reassurance of forgiveness.
