Whootness! WHen out youth pastor asked what the holiday was that we celebrated in February, I was the only one to shout out Groundhog Day. Cause I don't give a crap about Valentine's day for now.

Blarg! I'm single and actually enjoy the holiday (somewhat). While it did become an excuse for the college age group at my church to have an open mike night (not a fan of random poetry reading, doubly so on a night many will be wallowing in self-pity), it does mean that my parents are sending me chocolate!

Honestly I don't really care about Vday at all. It's just like any other day except there's a possibility that I can get candy.

Valentine's Day is a massive marketing gimmick designed to guilt men into buying absolutely useless but expensive items such as jewelry and roses.
No, I'm not bitter, unlike some types of chocolate used to celebrate this most mal-intentioned holiday. I'm freeeeeee!

Oh please. You know if you had a Valentine you'd think it was the greatest holiday in the world.
And I know that from personal experience.

I'm buying mood rings for all the girls I know and hang out with.
Listen to Relient K's song entitled "Mood Rings" and you'll get the joke.

Normally, I'd be all obsessive about V-day and how I never have someone to share it with... but I have much more important things on my mind right now... very important things that has the potential of changing my entire life.
As it stands, this year, I don't care. Besides... I might be getting Drakengard 2 that week, anyway.

w00t! Single and happy to be so! Love interests suck up so much time and resources, and frankly I do not have such resources as money or patience to waste on some shmuck. I also get out of all the soap opera like dramas and devastating heartbreak I see peers and friends of mine suffer. Now, if guys would quit mistaking friendly behavior for an invitation to flirt, I'd be fine. It is discouraging when I'm trying to set up a chance to witness and suddenly the guy is sweet on me. So annoying. I need some sort of sticky paper for wannabe boyfriends.

Valentine or not, the day isn't too different for me. ^_^ This year I'm Valentine-less, and I honestly don't care. I'm not anti-Valentine's day - I'm HAPPY to see everyone else happy, and I'm not lonely. ^^ It doesn't bother me at all, and I can still give chocolate to my friends.

Whether you meant that seriously or no, it isn't the first time I've seen people suggest St. Valentine's Day is something along these lines.
Just so that everyone here knows, St. Valentine's Day has been around as a holiday to celebrate romance since th Middle Ages:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valentine%27s_Day
Myself? I have no girlfriend, but I love the day. This year it won't be so exciting but someday I'll have that special woman in my life with whom I can share V-Day with. And when that happens, I will enjoy it.
My question to guys who complain about buying gifts for their sweetheart: Why would you NOT want to do that? It's enjoyable, in my opinion, to get nice things for your beloved and watch her reaction when she sees your gift for her and the thought and love you put into it. Of course, you can also go another route and do something like write a poem if you're poetically inclined. All sorts of possibilities to make it special for her. You get the idea. I like the holiday.

To be honest, I do like the idea behind the holiday... but why wait a year to do something special for the one you love? If you love someone, why not take time out of every day to do show your love? It doesn't even have to be expensive, or even material. Just do something. Don't wait a year for a "special day".
At least... that's the way I would do it... if I had someone to do that kind of stuff for. Oh well, fortunately for this year...
I don't care!!!

Well, clearly, doing something special on V-Day does not preclude doing special things on other days. But special occasions are nice to have.
I mean, why do we celebrate birthdays? Couldn't we celebrate a person and be nice to them other days of the year as well? Same with Christmas or Easter. We appreciate the birth, death, and resurection of Christ all the time. Yet we do have special days for these things.
I think to have a day set aside as a "holiday to celebrate romance" is a lovely thing.

Only semi-seriously... I knew the holiday had been around since long before advertising agencies existed, but like most holidays it's been completely commercialized over the years.

Eh, it's not so much that I dislike the holiday nor am I bitter (hence the blarg? answer!), I know it's greatly enjoyed by couples everywhere, I just don't really get into it as I have had no reason to. I like the chocolate and whatnot and am sure I will enjoy celebrating it in typical fashion someday, but I dislike the moping and pity-me attitude of many single people I've encountered ("I don't have a date on Valentines so I'm going to the bar to get hammered." Can you do anything less attractive?). No offense, but why not just enjoy yourself and wait until you do end up dating if that's what you're intended to do? I know it means alot to people if you show you care on a holiday designated for that type of thing and I think that's great (if entirely too commercialized currently), but as I don't have a girlfriend to give things to, the extent of my Valentines day festivities will likely be sharing the chocolate my family sends me with other people in my house (and maybe buying chocolate on sale the next day!).

That much is true. Our whole society is commercialized these days, seriously.
Personally, I say just celebrate it for its true meaning, which many people do.
