Show us your accent (Part II)

Postby Warrior4Christ » Tue Feb 07, 2006 4:36 am

The Part II thread. Now record your voice saying the words in List 1 or List 2 (preferably both, in separate files). :)

Don't change the way you say a word because you heard someone else say it differently - we want to hear *your* natural accent!

Save the recording as a compressed format (MP3 or WMA; Ogg is not recommended, because it has less player support). Label the file appropriately as List 1 or List 2. I recommend using Audacity, because then you can cut off the unnessessary silence at the beginning and end and also normalise the sound file, so it is at a decent volume. If you want to save as MP3 with Audacity, you need to download the encoder separately. Both are available at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. And finally, upload to some web space somewhere, or use a free one such as yousendit (these have a time limit of usually 7 days, so hurry while stocks last!).

EDIT: Oh, and say what type of accent you have!

Amusing to listen to... *hasn't owned a mic for some time now though :/*

I was suprised how Warrior 4 Jesus pronounced "tomato" and "potato" differently (never heard it like that before...)

*relaized I should've added the word "tour" to the list* only because people look at me funny and say I pronounce it the wrong way (probably because I watch American TV though^^)

Here's my michigander/midwestern accent

MSP, your accent sounded a bit californian, i thought...hmm.
W4C, Arkansas has to be the funniest word on your list to listen to, IMO. ;)

Eh, just wait until people aren't around, FadedOne. Or tell them something to placate them before they haul you off.

My accent isn't exactly regional, I live in Wisconsin and fit in quite well, but I've lived in a number of states and probably have some eccentricities from each of them.

I don't know what my accent is, though I do have a bit of Southern in it, I'm sure (as much as I've tried to get rid of it).

These were done on the mic already in my laptop, so that is part of the reason they sound bad. Also, it picked up wrestle kinda weird - probably I just slurred while saying it.

You need to go Export to MP3 from the menu, then upload that. These are just the tiny project files that don't have any sound data.
