Just wondered how many here had connections through your family tree to well known individuals in history whether blood relatives or perhaps through step-relatives?

The woman who adopted my mother was the cousin of Jesse James and I remember when I was younger hearing her share about seeing him at family gatherings.

Have any of you heard of my paternal grandmother whose stage name was Marie Donovan? (I'm guessing most of you haven't, but some of you may have.) She had a talent for playing her harmonica in such a way that it sounded like two people were playing, and she went on radio programs to perform during the '50's (I think?) and became somewhat famous.

I never knew her, though, because she died before my dad even met my mom. Dad tells me she was a strong believer in the Lord, though.

Don't start with the "We are ALL related to" crap. It's rediculous, and anyone that goes for the Chuck Norris fad is an idiot.

Back on Topic, though...I've traced my family history back to 255.

King Henry IV
Sir Thomas Wyatt the Poet
Charlemagne I (and all the rest)
William the Conqueror
Numerous other kings and queens

I don't really know anything from before my family immigrated to America, but I know we’re related to the captain of the Mayflower. Another interesting fact: we used to own part of Manhattan Island! If only we had that deed…

I have no interesting relations.

I'm related to President William Henry Harrison, there's even a family member a few generations back named 'William Henry' on our family tree, my dad's side.

Does anyone else get called by distant relatives tracing the family tree? My mom gets called every few years by people seeing if she's related to so-and-so.

No, just red heads.

Chuck Norris was actually the first red head in the world. He is Chuck Norris so he can`t have the same hair color has normal people.

He died 1000s of years ago, but the Grim Reaper is too afraid to tell him and enjoys Walker Texas Ranger and Delta Force.

I am also related to someone who worked closely with William the Conquorer on my mom's side.

My dad says I am related to some Sioux princess on his side...don't know if that is true...

My mom's side has their own Medival Crest though..it's a goat... Maaaaah!

I'm related to Admiral Richard Byrd, who is credited with the greatest advances in our exploration of the southlands of our planet. Does that count?

My ancestor Stephen Greer was the first white child born Darke County, Ohio
He became a doctor and served in the Civil War. After the Civil War he was the doctor who helped to deliver Phoebe Anne Oakley Mozee who later became Annie Oakley of the Wild Bill's Wild West Show.
The only bad thing about my ancestor is that he was part of murder of a man and woman which became a famous trail in Ohio.
My dearly departed uncle Marvin (Skeeter) Francis was one of the ones who started the ACC (Alantic Coast Conference) and was involved up to his death in his 80s.

An family legend for which I have no idea what proof there is, is that my mother's family is descended from the Stuarts (royalty in Scotland and England) and specifically Mary Stuart. (That would be Mary Queen of Scots, not Bloody Mary.)
On my dad's side, we're yust a boonch o' Norskies, y'know. Yah, fer sur, y'betcha.

My mum's ancestors were Chinese royalty, and my dad's ancestors fought in the Warring States period in China (then again, who in China then didn't?).

However, their names would make no sense to most people .. so .. :)

I'm related to former MS governor JP Coleman, a notorious racist (which I'm not proud of), and Elvis Presley. That used to be cool until Michael Jackson was married to Lisa Marie Presley, which means for a moment I was related to Jacko. *shudders*

Allegedly, I am distantly related to Henry J. Kaiser, the Kaiser in Kaiser Steel and Kaiser Permanente. This is considered a point of no small hilarity to my coworkers as I work for KP (and my last name is also Kaiser).

Dad actually inquired to the Mormons about this, and if anyone would know about genealogy, it would be the LDSes.
