Tet Festival

Postby CDLviking » Sat Feb 04, 2006 7:38 pm

Every year, because of the tremendous amount of Vietnamese Catholics in the area, the abbey holds a Tet Festival in honor of the new year. I went ahead and took some pictures, and I figured some people here might find it interesting. I missed the first couple of performances because my camera ran out of batteries, but enjoy what I was able to get.

Here are a few pictures of some of the younger performers of the afternoon.

These next few are probably may favorite performance of the day (since there were no dragons this year :sniffle: )

I have many more pictures to come, but I don't want the first post to be to gigantic to respond to.

May I ask what does Tet stand for? I can't help thinking of Tetsu, a JRocker instead.

I think Tet is the Lunar New Year for the Vietnamese.

That is my understanding as well.

These next ones were from a group of young Korean girls if I recall correctly.

During the war the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese used Tet as a launching time
for one of their biggest offensives.Fortunately they were turned back.Unforutantely
if you remember the Vietname War it's hard not to think of Tet Offensive when the word Tet is mentioned.
