African American Anime Fans

Somedays it feels as though I'm the only black dude in Louisiana that watches anime or reads manga. Whenever I join a forum, I always have the feeling that I'm the only/first plack person there. Don't get me wrong, I consider it a great blessing to be this unique, but I was wondering if anyone else ever felt this way; like they're the blue toe socks in a drawer full of white socks?

Asians don't count, unless you forgot who invented anime.

I have several black friends who are into anime, so I assure you that you aren't the only one out there.

I guess I qualify on my fathers side.

My brothers ex-fiance told us that all the kids could pass as Hispanic in NY.

Like half of my anime club is black, so I guess it's just where you're at...to determine who even knows about anime.

Lol, I'm 45% African American, so I'm usually mistaken as Hispanic, not that I care though!

i'm black (along with enough percentages of other races to make me appear to be something else). i know a few (emphasis on few) other black people who are into anime but not many.

Not to be mean...but..why does it matter? (seriously, not trying to be rude!)

But In my opinion it shouldn' matter if someone is black, white, purple, green..Asian...etc..

I mean, do people really look at each other say "Oh you are Black AND you Watch anime! HEh! You are even cooler than I thought!"?

I guess for me, it just really doesn't matter what color you or, or your racial backround. I try to find common interests in areas other than skin color. Like for instance, knowing that majority of everyone here is Christian, makes you even cooler because of THAT fact...but outside doesn't matter to me..LOL

Anyway, I hope I didn't offend anyone...truly that wasn't my wish, in fact it is more of a light hearted reply than anything else.

But to stay on Topic, I don't really have many African American people in my hometown, so I guess I don't know any.

No-one can tell your race or nationality when you're online.
I'm not black but my ancestors owned some back when slavery was still around.
Hope that doesn't mean we can't still be friends.

Being that about 80% of my school is black, I'd say there's quite a few. Unfortunately, many of the real anime fans there seem to be gay (or "bi") or into yaoi (and that goes for ALL groups, not just the black...). >_<

*sigh*

Don't show ANYBODY that website!

Why not?

*posts the URL all over the forums*

well, I mean if you're in a place thats predominately nationality X, you want to see if anybody happens to be nationaltiy Y, to go "Hey I'm your nationality! coolness"

nobody is saying it matters, but It's a nice thing to know.

No offense at all! The main reason I asked is because Louisiana is not known for being really anime-friendly. In fact, my cousin thinks Pikachu is demonic (But that's another thread  ) The few anime fans we have here are of a lighter complexion than myself, and I was just wondering if the situation was the same everywhere else. That and I also wanted to have a thread that lasted for more than two pages! :jump:

Dude... I didn't even know that KhakiBlueSocks or Sigma were black until yesterday. So... It's not exactly obvious when you just talk to people online. :P

It doesn't matter one bit and it has nothing to do with being cooler...I mean noone is going to treat anyone any different... o.o

Its just that sometimes it makes a person feel like less of an outsider, or less unusual.

Like if you went to a public school all your life, and never met a single christian, and then all of a sudden you find out that someone else is a christian.

okay maybe thats not a good example... but sometimes its just a comfort..

Sorry bout that all! ^_^
