Informal Petition and an appeal to the mods

Hello mods and other members of CAA. ^.^

I'm sure that we would all be in agreement if I said that we are all happy with our mods doing the best job that they can and for protecting our beloved CAA. But we all know that even mods have lives, and can't be around all the time. And while we are all extremely grateful for the work that they do, its been mentioned a few times today (due to the influx of trolls, and the sad passing of inkhana from mod hood) that perhaps a new mod is needed.

So I thought I would start a thread in order to appeal to the mods and ask them to create a new mod. Preferably one that tends to spend quite a bit of time on CAA. And maybe to even be a mod that guards the chat.

I have given it some thought... And its come to my mind.. that perhaps ShiroiHikari or kaemmerite or perhaps CanNick would be a good mod.

That being said, what do you all think? Mods, CAA members?

Would having a new mod help?

I don't think its a good idea for the general CAA public to choose. This can lead to favoratism of people and could possibly make things nasty.

Well, this type of matter is for the mods to decide amongst themselves, so I dont think that lobbying for a new mod would be the exact thing to do, but they are usually open to suggestions. As for who they would pick, it has been stated that they decide that from what they have themselves observed, and not from suggestions or votes. I think this issue is adressed somewhere in the History of CAA thread stickied in the general section.

I'd have to agree with MSP. It might be nice to have a new mod but let's just leave this thread as a suggestion and not debate who we think would be a better mod. BTW ShiHi was a mod for a while.

I agree with MSP as well.
Though I am sure your heart was in the right place.
Logged-in time and popularity does not equate good mod.

I think we should just leave the choosing of any new mods to the incumbents. They're doing very well.

The issue will be taken under discussion. No official opinion is expressed at this time, of course.

I didnt mean to imply any popularity or anything in this post. I simply meant that they would be good due to the fact that they are on CAA for quite a bit, no opinion, just stating a fact.

XD I also didnt mean for anyone to want to vote or choose a person. The post was more directed to the mods, and to be added to if anyone had anything to add. I'm sorry if it came off as me trying to stir up trouble.

Also also, If this has come up before, I apologize.

I agree that there should be a mod that can cover daytime stuff, especially after today. *remembers earlier and shudders*

Nette actually was once a mod once but she stepped down.

One thing to consider is that there's much more to choosing a mod than just picking someone who's on a lot. I'm sure it must be very hard to find a member who is responsible, level headed, mature and dedicated enough to be a good moderator. Furthermore, since we are a Christian forum, the staff has to consider how spiritually prepared that person is to be a role model for the site.

Since there's always been a bit of influx of moderators on the site, I'm sure that the staff has gotten aquainted with the minimum amount of help necessary to keep the site functioning well.

Bingo, well said. I'm big on accountability, so anyone that does step up will have to understand that their words and actions will influence people even if they don't realize it.

Bingo, which reinforces the idea that another mod, or group of mods, may not be what's needed.

As my big sis already said, I'm sure the mods know when it's time to add more help to the site. And even then, no matter how many mods we have things like the troll attack we had yesterday can still happen. So I'm sure that the mods will be responsible and make the right descision, and I can understand that trying to select a new site leader is probably a pretty big responsibility. The main thing that worries me (and I'm sure everyone else too) about the troll attacks is the younger members who are exposed to their garbage. It's easier to ignore those things when you're older and put them out of your mind, but the sheer shock of it tends to be more damaging to younger people. Because of that, I do think it would be nice if there were at least someone who was on a lot who had the ability to delete that kind of post, even if they were not a full-fledged mod. But this is just my humble opinion, and as I've said before I'm sure the mods are considering all the aspects and making a wise descision.

BUT! One thing that WOULD be most excellent, in my opinion, was if there was a way to report a post without actually opening it first. There are many threads that you can tell are the work of a troll just by the title or the name of the member, or both. So, if there were any way that we didn't have to open the thread and see their junk in order to report it, that would be fabulous!

they should just pray... God will lead them in the right direction.

no voting is needed... Gods vote counts more than all.

Remember God knows the true intent of each heart, and what each person's true lifestyle is.

Just as a request, it's probably counterproductive to post suggestions publicly. Not only does this potentially build expectations, but it can also be hurtful. If you have an idea for consideration, you can PM one of the moderation staff, although this message should be in no way construed to mean that new moderators are being selected (because we haven't decided that yet).

I think that Yumie had a good idea about making a semi mod who can at least lock troll threads. Of course they'd have to be trustworthy and have a close walk with God...But it might help a little when all the mods are swamped.
