The thought of eternity...living forever...it really freaks me out.
Am I alone here?

NOPE!
Sometimes when I just think about it, and I MEAN really think about it. I get all wigged out and am like "WOAH! That's FOREVER MAN!"
But then after I think about Where I am going to be, my heart rate slows and my worries subside, and then I begin to feel really bad for those that will never see eternity with Christ. And how I NEED to get OUT there and tell everyone about Jesus!
Interestingly enough, my last panic about this happened during Narnia..^^;

I'm very much the same way. We live in a finite world, where everything has end. To try and imagine something without that end is beyond our ability. Whenever I start thinking about eternity, even an eternity with the God I love in Heaven, it absolutely scares me to death, because I just do not understand how forever cannot have an end.
Great, and talking about it is making me freak out now... @.@;;

What if eternity had snowflakes, feathers, more snowflakes, and more feathers?

I know how you feel. Though I think the opposite scares me more... the fact that we actually
exist in this world and that we aren't living in a world of "nothingness." It makes me very thankful that you and I were created and that God made something out of the reality that exists right now.
Certainly if the alternative was that God didn't exist to create us in the beginning (of if there wasn't a God), then we would still have nothing today.
As long as eternity is NOT nothing, then I think I'll be happy there.

YES! @_@ Up until I was like 12... I would freak out about that almost every single night. Sometimes it would get so bad that I'd liek start screaming and lose control of myself. It scared me soooo bad. I can easily say it was the greatest fear of my childhood, and it still scares me if I try to think of it now. Like Kae said, it's just beyond our reasoning, we can't comprehend what it will be like.
Now I'm totally pumped to get to heaven ^_^ It doesn't really scare me anymore at all!

I used to be that way all the time actually. I'd keep thinking like "how boring would it be just to live forever . . you'd never have a dramatic ending like in movies and such." XD. but yes, it always made me feel down. but then I realized that I'd rather be with God than with the other where you are in the lake of fire. I mean yeah, it seems like being in a peace filled land would sound boring ya?
but we are adjusted to such thinking because of our sinful nature. when we get to heaven we will realize that even more than ever. I mean, who here would love to see the christ that died for our sins and rose again on the third day just for our unworthyselfs.
I mean, how would anyone want to missout on that? and we barely even know him much. shure he answers are prayers and is always with us (and Amen to that!) but have we ever really SEEN him or held a conversation with him. and along with that, we get to live in heaven where there is no pain, fear, disease, and heart-break with all those that have accepted him too. I mean C'mon people!!! yeah, it may sound boring but you gotta look at our sinfull natures and say "no, I know that I'd rather be in heaven instead of hell" and praise the lord for such a gift that no one else in the entire universe could pay for. I mean, that's pretty amazing is it not?

Eternity is the one thing I look forward to. Immortality means learning all of the things I want to, doing all the things I've been meaning to, and developing all the relationships I need to.

This has bothered me since I was a kid. It keeps me up at night some times, and scares me other times. It's irrational, eternity just doesn't compute to me. But the way I look at it, it's simply beyond my comprehension. My trust has to be in God, and the fact that I trust him implicitly helps me a great deal. That, and the fact that I know that heaven is wonderful, even if eternity seems strange, helps me deal with my fear.

Yeah, it's like well, enough stuff to keep you busy for a lifetime if you think about it. Always learning, doing new things, flying around or WHATEVER goes on! I mean, if you think of all the amazing new technologies and discoveries that keep being made in this world that never cease to amaze us, think about how much more is waiting in heaven! It'll make iPods look like... umm... *insert boring object name here*.
The thought of living forever is way better than the thought as a little kid I had: havign your conscious still sort of sitting in your coffin, thinking to yourself :/ (Maybe cause that's what I do in bed all the time I came up with that :/) cause I refused to believe that you just "peacefully rest", even before I was saved.

I dunno, I've never really thought of it this way. The thought of dying and being...well, dead forever, never to wake again, or see anyone else ever again, scares me more. I find comfort in the fact that I'll live forever in heaven one day, haha! I hate the thought of just being...Well, gone. For good, you know? Anyways, maybe I'm the weird one...It seems like a lot of people feel this way!

I've actually allways goten really excited when I think of "eternity", my brain can't really comprehend it, but it's like. . . wow. . . God would want to live with ME. . . FOREVER. . . it's pretty dang awesome, I mean I'll be with JESUS, the LOVER OF MY SOUL. . . FOREVER, livin' in a mansion in HEAVEN, and it'll be so awesome cuz' I feel like when I get there, affter finding out who I am in this world and in Christ, I'll have an even AWESOMER revelation when I get there cuz' there's no imperfection in heaven, plus the worship is gonna' be pretty dang flippin' awesomely sweet XD so when I think about it I'm just like. . . wow. . . . that's like. . . wow. . . . . . . yeah, I'm not verry good with words XD
the one thing that doesn't really scare me but makes me feel like "oh man. . ." is like, the time issue here on EARTH, like. . . there's SOOOOOO much I wanna' do, and when I think about it, it just seems like I have SO little time to live for God and do everything I wanna' do with Him. . . I wanna' be a world changer, and I wanna' be able to stand before God and say that I did something for Him. . . I'm saved, so I could do absoloutely NOTHING and I'd get into heaven and He'd still love me, but that makes me all the more passionate to WANT to do something for Him BEFORE I go to eternity, so that's one urgency I have, but other than that the idea of eternity is flippin' sweet XD
so yeah. . . I'm lookin' forward to the day when The Body becomes The Bride ^_^

I remember one Sunday my dad drew a circle and a line on the chalkboard. He described the circle as mortal life and the line as eternity (the line went off the board). Later that day when we went to a restaurant we needed two tables, so they placed a circular table at the end of a rectangular one. My friend and I sat at the circular table and laughed nervously.
Anyways, back on topic...
I suppose I'm rather the opposite--it's my mortality that frightens me more, rather than my eternity. It's the eternity for others that scares me.

No, eternity doesn't frighten me. I do not fully understand what it will be like, but I feel like we are so limited in our current lives. It's like we are deaf and blind and lost out in the wilderness. I look forward to the day when my eyes and ears are opened and I finally see the Truth.

I'm seeing a therapist because I get anxious, and she's kinda...wacky. She said to breathe in deep, imagine snowflakes in your stomach (that sounds comfy, lol), then breathe out and imagine feathers coming out your mouth (feathers in mouth? ewww).
That's why I said that. I was goofing on her...kinda...lol.

^lol maybe it being an odd thing, is the point, to get your mind off whatever if making you anxious...?
I'm glad you posted this!!! Ever since I was little, the mere thought of eternity has scared me very much. I used to sit in church, and if my mind wandered onto that topic, I would have (pretty much) a panic attack. I'd have to get up, go to the bathroom and calm myself down! Since growing older, I realize it scares me because I don't understand it at all. But now I am a Christian and understand that God is in control, and it is a good thing, and regardless of if I understand it or not, God loves me and will take care of me.

There are plenty of things in this life that scare me.As far as eternity goes,I have tended not to really think about it too much.

It doesn't exactly scare me, but I have had some thoughts about it. To me it sometimes seems like I'd get bored of living forever, and that I'd just want an end sometime, but as has been mentioned, it's beyond our comprehension, so I guess I'll have to wait to see, how I like eternity.

The thought of eternity doesn't scare me really... it thrills me. I don't think I'll be bored at ALL. There's so much I want to do, and learn about -- so many things I want to try, places I want to go, people I want to know... I look forward to eternity, and it starts now.

I, truly, would want to already be there, in heaven, with God, right now. But, I'll wait. I want to be a tool of God, and show people the way to God so they don't leave this earth without him. That makes me sad, the number who will have eternal seperation. NOT eternity. That doesn't scare me at all. It'll be a blast.

It doesn't scare me at all. I always think of all the people I've admired that I'd actually get to meet. I'd love to meet Mark Twain (he always seemed like he'd be an interesting person) , Jimi Hendrix, St. Thomas Aquinas, Jesus (who wouldn't?), and so many others.

Eternity is scary for a number of reasons. The biggest reason is that most people don't know anything about eternity. Which if you did know something about eternity then it could be the most joyful thing to know about or the scariest thing to know about. Eternity has two destinations: 1. Heaven or 2. Hell. The second is the scarier part and should be avoided by having Jesus as your fire insurance. The first though is really cool. Let me share a few things the bible says about eternity with ya:
1. The sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more. ~ Isaiah 65:19
2. Never again will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not live out his years. ~ Isaiah 65:20
3. The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. The infant will play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child put his hand into the viper's nest. They will neither harm nor destroy. ~ Isaiah 11:6-9
4. Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. 2Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, 3because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. 4For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 5Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. ~ 2 Corinthians 5:1-5
5. 22I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. 24The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. 25On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. 26The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. 27Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life. ~ Revelation 21:22-27
That is just a sampler of what the Bible says about eternity. There is a lot of other really cool stuff I could tell you about. But the point is that you make sure your going to the right location because the other place will be no fun at all. So make sure your going to heaven by accepting Christ as your lord and savior, that way you know that you will be safe from the horrors of hell.

Eternity is a frightening thing. The reason for this is of course that we cannot comprehend it, and we are always afraid of that which we cannot understand.

Living forever has never bothered me, I've allways seen it as being that way it was. What frightens me is losing my pain. I don't want to, it's a part of me, what makes me who I am. I don't want to be deafened to the pain of others and live...forever...it's hard to explain. There is too much injustice, too much is wrong. I cannot live without the part of me that knows this.

I'm not really
scared of eternity, per say, but it is a kind of confusing idea. No way we'll ever understand it until we get there I suppose

The main thing is that when eternity comes, God will judge all the injustice and make all wrongs right, so you don't have to worry about that, because there won't be anything to feel pain over anymore!
