Christmas Gift Exchange!

Postby Roll » Sat Dec 03, 2005 9:53 pm

Christmas is almost upon us! If the mods don't mind, would any of you all be interested in participating in a little gift exchange? We could throw our names into a pot and then be randomly assigned a person to send an inexpensive gift to--say, a $5 trinket. Wouldn't that be fun? It would require two main things: commitment of participants to send the gift as promised (it'd be bad to send a present off and never receive one, or vice versa) and giving out your mailing address. We can have one person be in charge of collecting names/addies via PM and assigning them. What do you all think?

EDIT: Please see post #13 in this thread for details on the gift exchange revisions, and PM me if you'd like to sign up!

Bad idea. And I'm sure the mods will agree.

Send=addresses.

Fabulous idea in threory but it will be breeding some serious side affects which could be very dangerous.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Yes, I'm afraid that's not something we can officially encourage -- mostly the collecting names and addresses part, as that has been a source of trouble in the past. Sorry to put cold water on it even though the idea is very nice.

Eep, it's been trouble in the past? Nevermind, then! I'll see if I can think of a safer alternative...something we can do online, perhaps....

perhaps a song exchange or an image exchange? (random image/images that will give a clue to who sent it or something)

we could have a random image exchange where you make an image in paint, or photoshop or whatever, demonstrating something awsome about the person you pulled out of the electronic had. It could be secret and people would have to guess who had made the picture. Just an idea.

How about an online christmas card exchange?

People could make cards in Photoshop, Paint Shop, MS Paint, Paint.NET, emacs, or whatever image editing software strikes their fancy...
The cake used to be a lie like you, but then it took a portal to the deception core.

Hey, great ideas, everyone! Let's exchange some type of online gift, be it an e-card, artwork, poem, etc. that we personally made with each other! I'll be happy to collect names from those interested. Anyone who would like to participate, go ahead and PM me now to sign up! You can either have your gift sent to you in the form of a URL via PM at this forum, or submit your E-mail address to have it sent there. The deadline is December 24, and names will be assigned that night. Go ahead and get your gifts ready now! ^^

EDIT: The deadline has been changed to December 20, to give participants more time to personalize and issue their gifts. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the exchange, just let me know!

The gift can be any type of personal creation, such as a poem, letter, card, drawing, photo, etc., as long as it's digital and it's made by you. (I'm sorry, I wasn't entirely sure what you were asking, but I hope this answers your question!)

EDIT: Doh, I was totally in the wrong frame of mind! *slaps forehead*

I think he was implying his presence was like a present.

Sure thing, just let me know if you have a gift type preference, and I'll do my best to accomodate. Thus, if you have a particular type of gift in mind you're going to be giving, please let me know that too, so I can match you up accordingly.

Sign me up. My email is in my profile.

I'll be doing art, or a card featuring said artwork.

I have no preference for what I receive.

(And fyi, you can't pm picture attachments, so those will have to be emailed, or hosted at imageshack and inserted into the message.)
