On Monday there will be a lecture/presentation about the pornographic industry's impact on America. It is hosted by Campus Crusades for Christ.

I will tell you all how it goes.

My bad.

Upon visiting their website, it looks like something a mere student like me can't attend, if the fee is $4000-$8000 dollars. But somehow, I doubt they would get bulletin board space and a table at Library Walk if we weren't able to see it. Maybe the fee is for getting the speaker to come.

I'll find out more. But I don't want this thread to go to waste. The speaker is some ex-porn addict named Leahy, whose marriage was ruined by his addiction. The premise is the effect of a hypersexualized culture on people.

I'm pretty sure that's the speaking fee. They recently showed up at my own campus and admission was free.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

It's not surprising the subject would be pornography considering how large a buisness it is in this country.I mean you can't even google anime without
coming up with a list of hentai and other porn sites. :shake:

in defense of the search engines, many of them do have settings that you can adjust to filter out such explicit content

ok, i'm going to post a link now, the link looks like it's explicit, but i promise you that it's not explicit, it's a site for a ministry that works specifically with helping people deal with any problems with porn that they may have, they also help people that are in the porn business get out of it, they even have a free software you can download that will help keep you accountable of your internet activities with 2 other people

Hey, can I ask an innocent related question?

I know Pornography is wrong, But what about adult fanfictions? When It's about romance instead of perversion? It's it still wrong?

Naga, I don't see what's wrong with true romance for your fan fiction. But what makes them 'adult.' Is it the themes or lust. If its for lust, no I don't think that's the right way to go. Step carefully my friend. And trust Jesus always.

i will answer your question with an other question, this one retorical though, what is your goal in reading the fanfic? if all you're looking for is a good story, that's fine, but if you have it in mind that you're looking to read something that's going to stir up lustful thoughts and feelings, that's a whole other story

Hmmmm.... Tough question. Well, I think I read them to vent out lustful feelings, get them out of my system so I won't be tempted in real life.

Why does that excuse sound so familiar?

well the question would be "does reading the fanfic arouse you"

if it does, chances is that you better steer away. EVEN if it is clean. I mean there are many clean things that can arouse people.

If it doesnt. Either A. your sexuality is messed and immune to it or B. it is not perverted. (Chances MOST likely B)

also keep in mind of the language and how dept in the romace the story goes

Jesus says that "if your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off...". Meaning that if fanfic causes you to sin, put it away. ;)

While that is a solid biblical answer, it is a bit vague. The obvious question is "what exactly is stumbling?" However, the basic message of the passage is clear: you should go as far as necessary to avoid sin.

From my experience, "adult fanfiction" is basically a euphamism for "written porn." However, there are shades of grey when it comes to fanfiction that contains adult elements. My opinion about this is pretty stark, and I haven't reached a conclusion I'm completely satisfied with yet.

Close, but not quite. Note that this post is only as far as I know, and my knowledge on this subject is rather limited. Also, many different people use the terms in different ways, so no one set of definitions will remain accurate.

That aside, I believe the term is "slash." "Slasher" is the genre that Warrior 4 Jesus described. However, though slash is sometimes used to refer to pairing characters (due to the forward slash used to designate Character/Character), the original use of the term was for homosexual pairings for American movies, not anime.

General adult fanfictions can be called lemons or limes. Some make distinctions between the two terms, but everyone defines them differently so these are of little use in my mind. It is safe to say that if the story references some manner of citrus it is probably written sex. Another common term is PWP, or "porn without point." Typically this refers to the above, but without any real story or characterization involved.
