Do you guys think that some anime character are attractive or hot?
I think some are....
Kakashi, sasake .... i will think of the other names.

Sometimes Bulma from DBZ on Rare occassions, that girl from Full Metal Alchemist [forgot her name (always show her at credits)], Tifa from Final Fantasy VII, Rikku from Final Fantasy X-2, and that would proably be it for me since it`s sort of a freaky feeling to think a drawing is hot. It`s easier to accept in when watching anime...wait, Nami from One Piece also.

Well, most anime characters are drawn in an 'ideal' characteristic, a little barbie doll-esque, so I guess that's why people like them and find them attractive.

A LOT of anime characters are attractive in my opinion.
Kantarou from Tactics, Rabi from D. Gray-man, Goku from Saiyuki, Ashton from Star Ocean EX, Ban from GetBackers...just to name a few. ^^

It wouldn't hurt. Some folks don't like to use the word "hot" in describing a guy/girl whether an anime or movie character, or even in real life. "Attractive" is a better choice, in my opinion.

hot refers to a person being very attractive...

I think you have to get by the "it's a cartoon" stage and identify with the characters as (potentially) real. Most otaku have already adapted to this. Folks I know that do not like anime have trouble getting by this. They can't relate to a "cartoon" that might have emotions beyond that of the Roadrunner.
There's a word for that girl that is so ideal that she is unattainable, but guys dream about being with her anyway. Its moe. Seen Yumeria? Definitely moe paradise.
Given that attractive girls are, well, the "norm" of anime, finding that special HOT character requires something else for me (not in any particular order):
Armitage...Belldandy (or Skuld or Urd, I can share)... Sango... the extremely cool fish woman from the Blue Submarine #6 OVA (I think I cried she was so beautiful)... I also don't regret the 400 or so hours playing .Hack with Black Rose by my side...Sakaki... Tohru's mom is Fruits Basket (hey, I'm 44, some of the moms are HOT).
Edit. Now that I look back on this list. All of these women (well, female characters) kick butt in one way or another. Perhaps I am too one sided.

Dude, they have to be drawn/animated if they even have a chance of being hot.

Um. . . Heck YES!
I might be strange, but there are just some anime/manga characters who just make me giggly. Namely one character whose name begins with a "K" and ends with a "yo[u]."
I don't really think there's anythign weird about that, but, then again, that statement come from a person who, as a child, crushed upon Robin Hood in the Disney cartoon. I sometimes wonder that I might not be the best judge of weird. . .

It seems to me that lots of anime characters tend to sweat a lot, so they must be the ones who are hot. Maybe they ought to cool down with some fans.

Hahahaha! Most definitely! I used to think Link, from the Legend of Zelda, was one hot elf. XD Also, Serge from Chrono Cross, Squall from FF8, Kenshin, Aoshi, my latest interest, Takuto...um...etc. Yeah. Anime characters = hot. XDD

It's fine, I think plenty of anime characters are hot. Heck, even a some i've drawn myself. no, I really don't find anything wrong with it, as long as you remember that they're fictional characters.
I mean, have any of you seen SDF Macross? Minmay was hot!!!!.....jk

Gotta agree with what SP1 posted. There's definately a lot of anime out there that have "moe" elements in them. Heck, you'd be crazy not to think of an anime character to be attractive.
I myself have had crushes on characters based (though not entirely) on appearance. It's just another way of escapism I suppose.
Though it's kind of funny, but we may not find an anime character to be as attractive, considering how
young they'll be as we get older.

For me it's more the voice of the anime character that adds to the attraction, not solely the appearance.

Never really thought of paint and cel (or computer graphic) as hot. I'd rather get to know real human girls in a Christian relationship, not obsess over a hypersexualized anime image

I agree with AH. I have never really seen a hotness in anime characters. They are (as much as your all gonna hate to hear it) Cartoons. I enjoy watching some, but I find no attraction to them.

Not to be contentious at all, but in saying this you assume that 1) the total appeal of a character is based purely on sex appeal 2) if presented the choice between a relationship and an anime character, one would choose the latter. There is a difference between finding someone
attractive and being
attracted to someone. Obviously anime characters are
attractive, but just because I think they look nice or have a fun personality doesn't mean that I am
attracted to them. I may have mentioned this another thread, but I may get squealy and fangirly over anime characters, and I may joke around about being obsessed, but I would never trade the person whom God wants me to be with for an anime character, even if they were real.
<_<; sorry about that, just felt the need to clarify and such.

Eh, that sounded a tad harsh.
It's not like most of us don't know the difference between reality and fantasy or how to seperate crushes and
actual relationships. Besides, what fun is it to not notice the obvious observations with what we watch? Isn't that what entertainment is all about?

You don't know the otaku I've seen outside of CAA...
But seriously I don't think of anime characters as people outside the context of their series. I'd rather imagine life with a real woman.
and I think fanservice and hentai shows there are a good number of people who focus on the hypersexual. Even in normal shows the females tend to be drawn in a sexualized manner. People notice it. My sister in law has cracked down on her son watching anime because she dislikes the portrayal of women.

well obviously when one honestly believes themselves to be Edward Elric's wife *shudders* or wpuld choose hentai over a Christian woman, then we have an issue, I'm not denying that. But I would hope this would not be the case with your run of the mill CAA member, which it isn't. Therefore bringing it up in that matter seemed somewhat accusatory towards the people who have posted in fun here instead of accusatory towards people who really have a problem with that sort of stuff.
And just because one finds a character "attractive" doesn't necessarily mean they are imagining the character out of context with the series, much in the same way that a girl thinking another girl is pretty doesn't automatically mean she is a lesbian.

Nothing was posted in accusation. The question was if anime characters were hot. I gave my opinion: No. I don't think so. I find it hard to see anime/manga characters as hot. I prefer the beauty of a real woman. Anime is entertainment, and the characters are rather one dimensional. I think focussing on the physical appearance of an anime female tends to risk reducing how one views women to their physical appearance.
None of that was aimed at any poster or thier posts. Just what I believe

Well, it isn't quite what most of you are talking about, but
Heather Mason is hot. She's not real, but she's still hot. And this "reducing how one views women to their physical appearance" is a bit off, I think... I mean, I'm sure many people do think that way, my nephew for one, but sorry to say, people are attracted to looks. Now, that doesn't mean you should follow what society says looks good, but I allready count myself out of that one.
Now "Hot" and "Man, I want to marry her" are far different things... I still felt the latter about a fictional character (not heather), but she wasn't one dimensional... She represented much of what I wanted in a girl, but much of what I didn't as well... Still, I think it is perfectly viable to be vaguely attracted to a fictional character, even a "cartoon" because a cartoon need not be more fake than a fictional character played by a "real" human being.
I think this thing about anime characters being "oversexualized" and too ideal isn't just true of anime, nor is it more true of anime than it is of television and movies in general... Even the celebrity world is made up of the creation of ideals, and a cleverly staged drama with all the showmanship of a circus performance... Not much reality in the media or pop culture at all... Anyhow, enough of that rant. Heather is hot.

I haven't read the whole thread. Just a comment on the picture posted above. Is there something wrong with Heather's eyes?
