(From animenewsservice.com... yeah the site has very interesting info).

" NTT Developing Human Remote Control
CNN is running an article by The Associated Press which talks about a new galvanic vestibular stimulation device being developed by Japan's NTT that allows control of users' movements. The subject wears a headset and is controlled wirelessly at a distance by a handheld remote control unit. They hope to incorporate the technology into video games. (BTW: This method is about 50 years old, the US military has stuff that is light years in advance.)"

I read this wrong at first you see, first thought they were talking about that humans can be controlled by remotes (yeah I have a reading diffeciency :/)

But anyways... sounds to me like there's a possibility of actually playing The World... even if in the show etc. they have controllers with them, but you know... VR will be coming out soon. That should be interesting, and yet, scary, at thinking of the possibility of how it would actually effect the person... no one ever said that comas etc. weren't a possibility!

Um, actually, it *is* a remote control device. It works by fooling your vestibular system to make you turn in certain directions (by your body believing you're off-balance and trying to compensate). You can consciously work against the signals, but you'd probably feel quite ill and weird.

Myself, I don't like it.

Eh, I think I agree with Shoo on this one.

Actually, there's alot of hints that Nintendo is shooting for some sort of VR system as well.

This is shown in the design of the Revolution controller, which is working more off of a gyration system and not a "pointer" one such as in the average light gun perapheral. I also read somewhere that they have taken interest in some new tech, such as holographic design.

I think that's called augmented reality rather than virtual reality.

I've been thinking about writing a story that would take place sometime in the near future about a guy who plays a GTA-like game in VR and eventually finds himself unable to make the distinction between real life and the game, killing people reflexively because the game trained his muscles to use weapons without thinking.

And thats why VR makes me uncomfortable: I'm a victim of my own propaganda :P
