I'm sure most people get that experience where they think something will happen, and then the unexpected or the opposite outcome occurs. Cold, cold irony sure is a stick in the mud.
I seem to be this severe case of situational irony; I think I failed something, when I actually passed it with flying colors or when I'm sure I'm going to play tennis, my partner forgets his racket. Somehow, even the most sound expectation is thrown out the window.

Check out Kokoro Daisuke's thread called "Things You Find Funny/Ironic," a bunch of people put stuff about their encounters with irony.

Well, about a month ago, I was really discouraged and depressed because I was sure I'd blown my chances at getting this great internship. It was with a newspaper, and I hadn't heard back. It was way after the time they said we'd receive notification, and right after I had totally given up hope, I got the letter in the mail saying I got it! I was so happy, and grateful to God for the blessing. That was kind of ironic, in that it was after I was resolved to not getting it, it all worked out.

Yes, but looking through the thread, it's irony they've observed, not so much a direct part of, in the simplest sense. +_+; I guess I can say this thread was inspired by Kokoro's thread.

Here is a personal irony.
I had been visiting a sick friend, and the experience had become very draining. That was bad, in that the visit was actually a break from other stresses of the day, and I was feeling very tired at the moment. As I drove home, I saw a train crossing the street ahead.
In my town, they have yet to build a method of going over or under the trains, and they can be extremely long, 8-15 minutes at times. So this felt like the last thing I needed, and I (partially self-mockingly) raised a fist to the air and said "Why, God, why?"
That was the point when the last car of the train passed by the street and traffic began moving again. The timing was almost exactly that perfect. Though I still got stuck in the ensuing slow traffic, I actually laughed aloud at myself. Not only was it a good example of God's sense of humor, it made me abruptly realize how petty I was being.

I seem to have the interesting ability to subconciously predict things before they happen. Sometimes I'll think of certain people I haven't seen in a long time out of the blue, and I'll see them that very same day.
Once, at church, I just happned to start thinking about what it would be like if the power were to go out. About five minutes later, the power went out.
