Question for guys, girls can comment too ^^

Postby Kisa » Mon Oct 17, 2005 5:51 am

OK so I had this really strange conversation with a guy I work with that led to him saying that guys don't like girls who play sports. He said a girl who plays some sports is cute, but if they are really athletic, then guys don't want to go out with them.
Personally, I always thought it depended on the guy and his interests as well, but he claims its most guys.
So guys! What do you think and help us athletic girls understand you all!

Um... Don't know if I'm qualified to answer (other than being a guy). I don't like sport and I've never had a girlfriend. I think an athletic girlfriend would be good, because then I too would be more motivated to do something active like that. On the otherhand I wouldn't have a problem with girls who don't do much or any sport. Character and personality are more important I think. And if you like/love someone anything like athletic differences will seem trivial. That said I would like a girl that retains some feminine traits - not trying to be a man sort of attitude, but bit of a tomboy is fine.

For me, it doesn't matter. Athletic, unathletic, whatever, it's all good, no biggie. I run but I don't play any sports so if she's better than me at every sport out there, fantastic. What's more important is her personality and her relationship with Christ. Those are two things that far outweigh whether she's good at sports or not. If she was great at a sport, that's awesome but the content of her heart is what truly makes her lovely (or...not lovely, if that's the case).

I dont think that it matters one way or another. My Girlfriend is considerably more into sports than I am, and it doesnt bother me.

Yes, I also would want a girl who has a relationship with Jesus Christ. That's a must. Can't believe I forgot to mention that! (kicks self)

I have no personal answer to the question whatsoever. That aside, I do have a great many acquaintances who have expressed opinions on this subject. For the most part, no, no one has ever expressed negativity toward girls involved in many sports. The exception would be girls involved in sports that they considered "excessively manly" such as the shotput.

I personally don't really care.

Sports, no sports, long hair, short hair, no fingers, it's all pointless for me to care about that.

As for me, personality is much more important than appearance, but I do prefer an athletic figure. ;)

I don't care if they play sports, but I'm more into girls that like to watch sports, mostly college football.

I've heard guys say "I dig a chick who can beat me up", and well, sports do give most girls a nice slim figure. I think the problem is, Kisa, when they said "athletic" they meant "butch, body builder, militant" , instead of just all around healthy, like you or I (or most girls) would think.

I, btw, am playing volleyball for my school. Rawr! XD

I agree with most everybody else on this issue...Though I don't think that I'd work well with a girl who was a sports fanatic (I mean watching all the time) becuase I get pretty easily bugged by those kinda people. Heh...I need to work on that.

From what I've seen, I think that guys don't like girls who are ridiculously manly and that can be assosciated with sports. However, I have noticed that really flirty girls are always the ones who will get out there and play football or whatever with the boyz at every available opportunity, and lots of guys like flirty girls. . .

You pretty much hit it on the head. Butch girls frighten most guys off but a fit girl is very very attractive to most guys.

I voted "no." While in reality I have female and friends and relatives who are nice gals AND athletic, I cannot erase a mental association of athletic girls with a class of female who are totally--crass and uncouth.

I guess I'd have to say I dont care but a really athletic girl might be intimidating since i'm... not. I ride my bike when i feel like it, take taekwondo, and march in band but thats about it.

The girl I like right now happens to be involved with softball, but she's not terribly athletic and didnt makethe varsity team  Still, the softball was a plus when i met her.

I like girls that are a bit atheltic since it tends to show that they want to be
serious about staying in shape and taking care of their bodies. :thumb:
As far as it goes I wouldn't mind a girlfriend who was into sports as I
need an excuse to get more into shape myself and having someone
share your exercise with you helps.

I like feminine ladies, and generally those who play tons of sports aren't very feminine. If you can be ladylike and still play sports, then more power to you!

Hmm... it doesn't really matter. It would be nice if she liked sports (or shared a little bit of interest) or does things to stay in shape, but whatever.

i'm short and relatively harmless looking but i've played on a guys hockey team for seven to eight years...when guys hear that they kinda freak out...most of my guy friends appreciate girls who are athletic...they just don't like those body builder type chicks... ...from what i hear from most guys though...they couldn't care less...most of my friends are more interested in personality and stuff like that...

Well, as you know, Kisa, I'm a huge sports fan. And personally, enjoying sports (as a fan *and* playing sports), is close to if not the #1 thing I look for *interest-wise* (yes, there are other more important areas like faith, this is just interest wise) in a girl. And body-wise athletic women are my type.

Now let me add a disclaimer--I am very much turned off physical-attraction-wise by women body builders.

But swimmers, soccer players, volleyball players, etc. I like that body type and commitment to physical fitness and well-being in a girl. Plus, since I personally like sports and exercise, having a girl who's into that as well gives us something in common to do together.

It really is not a big deal with me. I would not date or not date someone based on if they liked sports or not. I will say this though, and its not limited to sports. If the girl is obessed over the sport....that could get annoying. Such as rather then spend time with you...she wants to constantly be playing a sport. At that point it would get irksome. I can't say I know any guys who would really care about the sports thing either. *shrug* So girls, continue to play sports...guys will still love you. If not, show them how hard you can kick from playing sports. ;)

That's the general conclusion I've been coming to from reading this as well. :)

Its always so nice to read through threads like this one that show that there are an incredible number of guys on the CAA who are fantastic. You guys all rock.

It is also good to know that playing/liking sports is ok, too. DISCLAIMER: I'm not incredibly sporty in a competitive sense but I like to get involved if there's a friendly informal game happening.
