Step sisters and brothers...

First off I wanna say sorry if this is in the wrong section. I looked around all the areas, but none of them seemed to fit so...hope nobody gets mad at me. ><
Anyways, I was wondering...is it wrong from a step brother to by married to his step sister? I know the Bible says something about how you shouldn't have sex with your sister if she's your mother's daughter or your father's, but that almost sounds like they're talking about half brother/sisters. After all, they would be related, but only by one parent...in this case though..*sweatdrops*
Does anyone know? Again I'm really sorry if this is in the wrong section, but it's a question that's bugged me for quite some time now.

yeah, I think it is. The Bible makes it clear that adoption makes a person part of the family that adopts him or her (and thus the reason why Christians are called Sons of God). So in a sense, those step brothers or step sisters are the equivalent of real brothers or sisters.

Really? I guess I just wanted to ask since I was interested in the Marmalade Boy manga, not to mention one of my parents are friends with a couple who were step brother and sister. ^^;

Well they're not physically related, so in that sense I don't think there would be a taboo. There might be a cultural. But not one about actual related-ness.

Well... This is a gray area for sure. By using that perticular wording; I would theorize that the Bible is being specific about stepbrothers/sisters; HOWEVER; It's talking about non-marital sexual relations; Abraham, as you will remember, was married to his half-sister. And God never rebuked him about it; and still accomplished His Will throughout his entire life. And keep in mind that the reason that God created the rule against brothers and sisters marrying is because it screws with our gene pool and would have caused major defects in future generations. A half sister would have different genes, even if they were partly created by one of your parents. It is important noting, though, that God turned his head on a lot of things back in the old testament, and things changed with the New Covenent. So this is really a very iffy area.

God never rebuked Abraham for marrying his half-sister because the law against incest was not given yet. However, once the Law was given, then it became a sin.

Dictionary.com:
1. Sexual relations between persons who are so closely related that their marriage is illegal or forbidden by custom.
2. The statutory crime of sexual relations with such a near relative.
the issue here, is a step-sister/step-brother someone "closely related" or a "near relative"? Sure biologically there are no problems.
And wasn't the reason why incest was a sin because it posed to many health hazards? (Being that your mate was biologically related to you). Thus marriage/sex with someone in your family who is not blood-related to you wouldn't pose the same health risk. (Think of like, marrying your step-sister)
Also give note that "just because there is something in the Bible, it doesn't make it right unless God said it was right or he didn't go against it"

What if two unrelated people get married then their single parents marry each other? Umm... I hope I asked that right.

The only verse I can find about marriage or sexual relations with siblings is
Leviticus 18:9
Do not have sexual relations with your sister, either your father's daughter or your mother's daughter, whether she was born in the same home or elsewhere.
Though, they aren't step-siblings, the example is about half brothers or half sisters. So nevermind. I don't believe it mentions step-siblings.

Well, the parents weren't married at the time, and they are unrelated, so I don't see how that could be wrong
The full list of tabboos I found were in Leviticus 18:6-18. But I didn't see the mention of step-siblings

I think a big part of it depends on WHEN you became step-sisters/brothers. If your parents got married late in your teens, I can more understand a legitimate relationship springing out of that situation. On the other hand, if your parents married when the two of you were five. . . Yeah, that would be more troublesome.
You should really look up other threads about this. They were very active and I'm sure you'd find them interesting.

Yeah I think it generally is wrong.
God wants you to marry
outside of the family, it all depends on what He says but I really think it would be a bad idea.
