EEP! Fire across the street

Hey All,
If the board goes off-line for no apparent reason tonight, I just thought I'd keep you all informed. The appartment complex across the street is on fire, and we don't know if we're going to have to evacuate or not. If I *do* have to, I'll yank the server out of the wall and throw it in the car.
Just FYI

Well, being safe is the important thing. Hope you don't wind up out of a home... it's no fun.

Oh,
And here I had this vision of racks upon racks of servers running in a clean room in a secret underground complex. Slavishly tended by a legion of techs living lives of monastic asceticism.

I'll pray that the situation will stay under control and that the peeps across the street from you will be OK and all that jazz.

Looks like we're not in any danger. The news helecopters finally left, so I KNOW there's no chance of a flare up.
Quite a bit of excitement though!
EDIT: Oh yeah. Doesn't look like anyone was hurt, either.

If anything did happen, just turn the server upon the flames and our combined forces would have put it out instantly.

It still doesn't explain why I couldn't get on this morning.
I'm glad all's well, though.

Hmm and yet I've been trying to log into the chat all day and can't make it in for some reason >_< *wonders if it's due to getting a surprise ban 0_0... or maybe just need a new thing from Java?* ...or is it just down? :/

Chat seems to be down, Tenshi. There's a thread about it in the Comment Box, I'm sure Mith will see it when he gets on tonight.

Their was a fire around these parts a few days ago...In a apartment, and three people died. Pretty sad.
At least everyone is okay with the fire where you are at.

Oxygen does feed fires. Ever blow on one and notice it gets brighter and larger? I learned that a long time ago. Not that any of you are stupid and wouldn't know this sort of thing so please don't hit me. ^^;;;

I can remember the many times we would be sitting in the station and hear the 3 beeps to alert for a Box Alarm which would be a large fire or large rescue assignment. If the dispatcher said "Across from" a address we could about say we are in for a working fire. There would be times we roll out the whole station on a call. Wagon, pumper, ambulance and chief. If we could get away with it the brush unit just for man power.
Now a days we are down to just a few people and might get two to three on the Wagon and the chief coming from home. If we had the crew we had years ago and empty the house it would be Wagon, pumper, ladder truck, ambulance, brush unit and the chief. Our sub station would be Wagon, pumper, heavy rescue, ambulance, maybe the medic unit and the assit chief. With the county dispatch system as it is now they will only dispatch one unit from a station and the rest sit unless requested.
When I started I was a back step rider and then things changed when accidents were taking their toll on firefighters riding on the back. Open cab units were also a problem so they started enclosing the cabs on fire apparatus and making everyone wear seat belts.
Things do change.
