Embarassing Newbie Moments

Ever had any embarassing newbie moments here at CAA, or any other forum for that matter? I have a moment that was embarassing, even though until now I did not tell anyone...
Ok, this is really the first forum I ever joined, except for christianforums.com--but alas, I was the mere age of about 10, and the age limit was 13. I started getting pms telling me that my parents had do to do some confusing fax stuff in order for my acount to stay active or something like such, so sadly, I decided that I could never post ther againV.V
But then, about a week after I turned thirteen, I arose through the ashes and joined a forum that I had been eyeing for a while...CAA! Wait a minute, why am I rambling on like this?!? This like has nothing to do with my newbie moment, all I needed to say was that this was kind the first forum that I really joined, and then I needlessly rambled on explaining it. And look, right now I am rambling on again! >.<
so anyways I did not really know how to find my way around forums and stuff, so I like had no clue what anything meant. Did not know what peeps were talking about when they said words like, 'avy' and 'siggy' or 'sig' and I also did not know what pockey was. So um...ya here is the most embarassing thing...when I saw the 'sticky' threads in the forums... I got kinda mad because I thought that 'sticky' was a MOD and I thought, 'That is not fair that that Sticky dude's posts are always at the top. It is probably only like that because he is a MOD! I mean nobody is even posting there!
So ya that is how clueless and disoriented I was:red: So how about you?

Well, CAA is the home of the first chatroom I ever chatted on, and I had to make a thread asking about how to type in the chat. XD Embarrassing, I know. I live in the chat now. XD

I thought a person was a girl. Bad mixup. Think it was Myoti.
Hey, this is my first forum, too, so no problem. I didn't exactly ask about a lot of things, but tried to figure 'em out by myself. I'm that kind of person, so that's why it took me a while ot get into CAA truly.

Yes to everything you said, I was pretty clueless too!^^ And until about a week ago I didn't know what a "sticky" thread was either. I just found out what pwnd means after bugging everyone to tell me what it meant!
And, that's not even from my newbie days!
I'm pretty sure I made a few stupid threads. gah. And the posts! Too many to count!
And I was really annoying. (still am
) Sorry everyone!

making oldphil mad (according to him.. i made ALL the admins mad)
I acted like such an idiot in the past... (thats what happens when you previously spend all your time on starmen.net and other ezboard forums.... there the mods aren't too serious nor are they old people with carpal tunnel syndrome...
)

It means owned. Which opens up a cornucopia of new questions in itself. *ooh! I found the new word of the day!* maybe I should change it to the newbie word of the day, ne?^^

I apparently have little shame, so I just went and asked what *glomp* meant on the chat room. At 44, I don't get *glomp*'d much...

The meaning of glomp: Friendly hugging, tackling, pouncing, etc.
I can't really remember any embarrassing moments here, most of my "crawl into a salt shaker of embarrassing moments" has come from outside my home. ^^

Well, I remember I took the expression, "Good, Bad or Ugly" too literally on a Pokemon forum about Bellossom, who I informed everyone wasn't ugly and was bashed for it...like, my first bashing ever. XD
Then I remember I made this full out thread bashing anime characters that had similar resembles to one another. That one still makes me cringe. Ah, to be 13.

At 23, neither do I. I resorted to El Goog for the definition.

Well, my first and worst sin was responding to a thread that had been gravedug, responding in a rather rude kind of flame like manner to a post made over a year ago and managing to offend UC Pseudonym and some other members from that thread who had posted on that thread a year before.
It taught me to beware of gravedug threads and of CAA style manners (stricter than elsewhere)

I once made a thread that got locked in like two seconds. It taught me to always review the rules first!*nods*
And, yes, they're strict here, but that's why we don't have psychopathic trolls walking around chopping people's virtual heads off. ^^And also the reason we have enough topics for a thread like this!
Long live the reformed rebels!

Yeah, well I came from a place where flames and profanity were common... so adjusting was rather hard, and then I became excessively polite when a mod was online, and I guess I'm kind of balanced now
(Mods: LIAR!)

Well, technically I'm still a n00b, so there'll probably be more to come, but so far the worst mistake I made was playing the person below you game when I was still warming up my typing. Try figurin' that one out why dontcha. >_<

So, bp-chan and orenji are new? Then you don't know about the initiation? *laughs evily* Yes. You must eat ten thousand buckets of pudding and change your sig to say "I am the master of the space monkeys"*nods* It's true, it's true!
Note:starfire cannot be held responsible for the effects of naive persons actually eating that much pudding(ie. turning orange, exploding, growing a fifth arm etc.) as she has not had her daily recommended serving of coffee. This makes her do very mean things. Instead, hold that person over there responsible!*points to random person* This has been a disclaimer.
hehe. Seriously, though, I always had trouble knowing if a thread had been done before as well. You never know, since CAA is so big!^^

hahaha. Getting too mad at other people, and taking people too srsly. I used to get into heated arguments with Mods for random reasons that i should not have gotten angry over, and usually when i was at fault!!!
ahh. I think i goofed off too much in areas that required more srsness... and it too me forever to learn the whole "/me" thing in the chat. Now i use it all the time!

I used to find it tough with the guys who had female characters on their avatars, and vice versa. I still do, but now I know a lot more people and look beside their username if I'm not sure. If there's still no indicator of gender there, I hedge my bets and avoid all words like 'he' 'she' etc without resorting to 'it' unless I really have to.
I know I've made a lot of mistakes in the past, and I still do (like posting something a little too political during the NZ elections) but they don't immediately come to mind. I just count everything as a learning experience and move on. They way I act now and the amount that I understand is greater now that it was a year, a month, a second ago.
Mostly I try to avoid embarassment and conflict by trying to have as much grace as I can towards others, no matter whether I agree with their comments, be polite and do my best to accept the existance of different views, respect them, and try where I can to understand where people are coming from.
But on a different note... don't beat yourself up over any n00b mistakes. Obviously, we had to all be n00bs at one point, so take in it good humour. Most of the people I know and respect aren't quick to condemn anyone for a couple of n00b moments. This I know from experience

This isn't as strict as a different forum I've been on. It was a car-based "how-to" type forum where you ask advice on how to do stuff. It was a big forum and lots of people sign up just for the purpose of asking how to fix a problem they are currently having. And the chances are high that the question you are asking has already been asked. So there are many many newbie threads asking a question, then everyone bites their head off for not using the search button. But when you do use it, there are heaps of results returned and probably 90% of topics are nothing about what you were searching, and they merely mention the word you were searching for
.
So I'm always hesitant to post there...
Also, I had some newbie moments on the uni CS (computer science) forums. I made lots of sarcastic posts and had a too narrow mind and lots of people misunderstood my posts and some got offended, but I learned my lesson.

If you go and look at my first post ever on CAA, you'll see what my most interesting and amusing newbie moment was. Well, you see, after only having ever met ONE Christian fan of anime, I simply couldn't believe that CAA was what it seemed it was: a place for Christian fans of anime to fellowship. So, my first post is like "Christian anime alliance? Christian-- as in, the religious affiliation?"
I guess I figured it was a fan ring for some VA named Christian or something.

lol Osaka that is funny. Ok I thought I was experienced here, but it looks like there are a few things I still do not know!!!! I mean, peeps(another word I did not know about until CAA) keep saying about how they did not know something at first, and it is stuff I still do not know!!! There was something on the page before this...I do not rember what it was...
Oh ya and what is l337?

How to describe 1337? 1337 is leet. Which is the system of using numbers and symbols in place of as many letters as possible. This originated in videogames and is still in effect today. One such example of 1337 speak would be in a special level on the game Psychonauts, or in Megatokyo. Here is a written example that I once posted on T-web for your enlightenment.
" 4 5[0rz /\/ 53\/3/\/ yrz0rz 490 0\/\/r f47l-l3rz 6r0l_l9l-l7 f0r7l-l ,
l_lp0/\/ l)15 [0/\/7!/\/3/\/7, 4 /\/3\/\/
\/45l-l0/\/, [0/\/[3!\/3l) !/\/ 1!63r7y, /\/ l)3l)![473l) 70 l)4 /\/\4l) pr0p0z!5l-l0/\/ l)47 411 l)4 l)l_l l)3z0rz wl_lz [r3473l) 3ql_l41."
Click and drag below for decoding
Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, upon this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that "all men are created equal"
*points to chalkboard* however, leet is not usually received well on web sites as it annoys the living daylights out of people.

One does not learn 1337. One is born 1337.
Just don't practice on here, or you will get shot!^^

I falsely assumed that having a mod lock a thread meant that they would because of your foolishness think of you as stupid and a bad member. I mistook Shatterhearts blunt but effective locking of a purposeless thread of mine as a sign that he was angry at me. Something added to by the fact that he almost always has intimidating or unhappy looking avatars. Befor long however I realised that he was just doing his job, and that he is really an awsome guy whose sarcam can be misconstrued as anger.

I thought Sir Thinks 2 Much was a guy for about 6 months or so. Some of my posts were a bit on the sarcastic side and miss understood. I replied to posts by trolls asking them to stop it (didn't know what trolls were) and some other things.

I fell pray to the same assumption for probably half a year. Finally, I began to understand his sense of humor and so forth. After that, I became steadily less and less afraid of him. XD
