Familar Voices

Hey, have you ever watched something and thought to yourself,"Hey, that voice sounds really familar? One time I watched one of those Barbie movies with my niece one Sunday and thought to myself,"Who is that voice?" I later closed my eyes and figured it out. It was Miroku's voice from Inuyasha. I think it was "Barbie And The Nut Cracker" or something like that (lol). Have you ever had to bash your brains just to figure out a familar voice? Ooh, does any one know who Max's voice is on Dark Cloud 2? It's always on the tip of my tongue, but never comes out. Errr, my head is about to explode :mutter:

No, and it's driving me crazy! I've searched and searched and pulled up nothing!
Anyway, back on topic, the one chick from the show "Big Shot" on Cowboy Bebop was played by the person who did R. Dorothy Wayneright and Millie Thompson's voice, as I found out by looking for about 3 hours. x_X

Is that the main character? If so, he's the same voice as Lloyd on Tales of Symphonia and Robin from Teen Titans.

Familiar voices are a pretty common phenomenon in animation. It's cliche, but true, that 10% of the people do 90% of the work. This seems especially true in the world of voice acting for anime, as the industry seems like a niche that is hard to break in to.

I'm pretty sure that was Lia Sargent, Orenji. I think she does mostly scriptwriting and directing, and less voice acting, these days.

No, her name was Dorothy Melendez or something similar, although it may be another name she uses.

Yeeeek, this has happend to me SO much!! In my Spanish II class, we have to listen to these tapes, and I swear, the guy that does the English voice on that tape sounds JUST like Miroku!!! o.o I'm always on the look-out for familiar voices, and I can't begin to tell you how much I flip when I hear a familiar voice! XD For instance, when I found out that Richard Hayworth was Legato in Trigun...Oooo. I pretty much just get excited when I hear the same voices from different anime. XD I'm just weird like that!

I can usually tell, especially with voices like:
Richard Cox Inuyasha
Kirby Morrow Miroku
Yamaguchi Kappei Inuyasha(Japanese version)
Yukino Satsuki Kagome(Japanese version)
A lot of people who do Anime have very destinctive voices, usually if it gets to hard for me I go to:
http://www.Animenewsnetwork.com and go to the "Anime" section on the toolbar, pick the initial of the Anime your looking for, find it and you'll see a row of the Japanese cast and then the English cast.
Sure I know, it's cheating! But sometimes you can't help it when your brain feels like popping like an overheated potato.

This is the guy and a complete list of all the things he has been in. With The Internet Movie Database you can find out all these things in less than 5 seconds. (if it had taken any longer I wouldnt have bothered.

The only thing is that the imdb can be faulty...

that site was responsible for the whole fake zelda-movie thing... EPONA IS A GIRL!!!!!!! >.<

anyway... <<;;;

I hate it when you hear voices that you just can't put your finger on... hehe... As an actor, i think it would be cool if i could do some anime voice-acting sometime in the future. mebbe for a christian anime? Who knows...

to an extent but it seems to be correct most of the time, and info on movies that have yet to be reliesed is likely to have errors in it. Overall though it is a good way to find out what people have been in, and who does the voices of people, ect.

There are certain voices I can pick out almost instantly, like Kirby Morrow or Brian Drummond (two of my favs ^^;; ) and sometimes I'll recognize it but not be able to place it immediately. The voice that eluded me forever was the guy that played Spike Spiegel for Cowboy Bebop (his name escapes me...); he also did Roger Smith for Big O and (what really confounded me) Tom for Toonami.

The only voice that I've been able to easily figure out was Aladin's dad, from Aladin & the king of thieves. It was done by Gimli the dwarf.
Other than that I've never really been able to recognize voices right off the bat. I do hear cartoon voices that sound familiar from time to time, but I don't take the time to find out whos voice it was.

Ahhh, thank you thank you. It's been beating me up until now. Now that I think of it it is Robin's huh. I'm not familar with their real names but I go by their anime names. I love Spike's voice. He also does tha voice for Sun Jian from my favorite game Dynasty Warriors. I acually read his bio thingi and it said the only part he actually rehearsed for was Spike on the Cow Boy Bebop movie. That is so cool. Yeah, it tood me awhile to think of Tom's voice to. I was like,"I heard that voice before." Then I was like,"Ahhh, Sun Jian's and Spikes." I was watching Escaflowne last weekend and I noticed that there was alot of Inuyasha people on there. There was Sesshomaru, Miroku, Sango, and Kikyo. I think there was some others from other animes, but I can't rememer. Speaking of Inuyasha, does Kikyo and Sesshomaru hook up? I saw a pic of the ladies on one side (Kagome, Kikyo, and Sango) on one side of the pic and the fellas on the other side (Inuyasha, Miroku, and Sesshomaru). I wigged out when I saw that pic!!!

lol.
I don't think there's a chance of Kikyou and Sesshoumaru hooking up. Besides Inuyasha would kill him.

Yeah I know, but... the picture (waah). It's cool tho I guess,"No one shall have my Sessy!!!"

lol. Sessoumaru has a lot of fangirls. He's handsome so I can't blame you, don't worry I won't steal him away from you. ^_~*
I like Inuyasha more than I like Sesshoumaru so I guess I would have more of a catfight with the girls who like Inuyasha, but it's not worth it even so. Everyone can like who they like, it shouldn't matter. Something about the imagery of Kikyou and Sesshoumaru together doesn't work even so. It would probably turn the show into Jerry Springer.

Yeah,it's so easy in animation to come across a voice or two that are
familiar when watching a new anime or toon series.I think that's because there aren't as many VAs as other types of actors so you have the same
person doing three or four different characters on the same number of
shows.
The first time I saw Hamtaro I had to wonder if it was Moneca Stori that
was Laura.
Most recent example was last Saturday for the Escaflowne movie.I knew
that Scott McNeil and Kirby Morrow we're both in it and when I heard the
Singer talk I recognized her as Willow Johnson but Hitomi's voice had me
knocking my brains out.
At first I thought it was Amanda Winn, but then I wasn't sure so Sunday
as soon as I got home from church I looked up the Escaflowne cast list
at Anime News Network and found out it was Kelly Sheridan. :thumb:
Of course there are several female VAs who seem to be in just about
EVERYTHING!(Wendee Lee for instance.)

I immediately recognized Richard Traydor's voice in Star Ocean 3 as Johnny Young Bosch.

Some voices in the Anime business are very destinctive. They have just the right uplift and tone in their voices that make you remember who the voice actor is in a second.

This isn't anime, but I just found out that Shaggy from Scooby Doo is voiced by Casey Cason from American top 20. Who knew? :eh: And Jay Leno does voice of the Crimson Chin on Fairly Odd Parents.

Ahhh, he would be my favorite voice actor, Steven Blum. He goes by about 10 different names (mostly David Lucas and Daniel Andrews), probably because people might get sick of seeing his name on so many shows! :) Some of his other stuff besides Spike from CB, Roger Smith of Big O fame and Toonami Tom include Shishio from Rurouni Kenshin, Mugen from Samurai Champloo, Darcia from Wolf's Rain, Jamie on Megas XLR, and about a bazillion other shows that many of you would recognize but I haven't seen yet.

...is it just the purple hair, or does Kusanagi off Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (dub, of course) have a similar voice to a very familiar female cyclops with purple hair...?

Oh you must be thinking of Leela (sp) from Futurama. No, I think they are differant. Leela's voice is Peggy's from Married With Children and Hyde's mom from That 70's Show. Speaking of Kusanagi, I think she does tha naroration for the little docamentries on those info japanese shows after my anime movies of AZN Television. She also does Nuriko from Fushigi Yugi and Beth from Sol Bionca (sp).
