CAA: Christian Anime Alliance

I am changing my major from Graphics Computer Science to an Education major.....

Reason i ask: I am scared[very very] from switching from high paying -> low paying. Very independent major -> very interactive major. So i need your guys opinions of a kindergarden teacher.

Better to do what you love and trust the Lord for the rest than to end up spending your life doing something you hate and not need to trust the Lord.

That being said, I changed my major 11 times, (that's eleven times, just for the record) and so I would caution you to be sure you're making the right choice.

Oh, and a good teacher can change a life, and that really means something.

My mom's a retired elementary school teacher.
So I am rather biased in favor of teaching as a career.Also a couple
at our church are both teachers.

I generally think of teachers favorably--I have had enough good teachers that I generally think highly of the profession itself.

Then, there is a moderate chance that I will teach at some level eventually, so I am naturally not biased in the least.

To me, job satisfaction overrides pay level when it comes to career choice. It's even better when you know that you've been blessed with the gift of teaching.

I know that I do not have the patience and gentleness of a teacher (^^; ). There is a responsibility that anyone who takes on education as their major should be ready to carry since teachers are looked up as role models by the community. So you may need to ask yourself questions such as "How well do you work with children in the kindergarden level?, How well can you readjust your teaching material so that you can connect with your students? Are you patient and gentle enough to deal with all sorts of children personalities? Are you willing to communicate and handle all sorts of parents as well?" etc.etc

Anyone can pick the education major but it takes an admirable amount of effort + God's blessings to be a loving and effective teacher. It would help to know what you think God intends for you.

I think teaching is for certain types of people (actually i am thinking of being either a teacher or a professor myself, of either wiritng/english or both ^^). Some people will like it, and others won't. I believe that the people who won't like teaching, know who they are, and should do the world a favor, and not teach, LOL. I think a lot of the supposedly "mean," and "bad" teachers are those that are unhappy with their vocation. The rule that i have learned to use is "i would do what i like to do, and be just ok at it, than do something i hate, and be excellent at it."

Again, talking to God about any vocation should be your first concern. Pray about it and then ask God for peace. He'll help ya. I'm sure of it.

In general, teaching is a hard, hard profession. So many people look down on you, and yet expect so highly of you at the same time. You will have students who will change your life, who will be barely noticed, and who will make every day a nightmare.

It is a fulfilling job though if you push yourself to believe in what you are doing... all careers are essentially that. Believe in God and the skill he has given you, and use them to his glory.

Reminds me of another profession that also involves hard times and people looking down on you.


Weird thing is I *want* to be a pastor AND a teacher.

If you love kids it's not bad. Summer's off with decent pay and good benefits. You probably won't get rich doing it, and you will have to deal with alot of people, not all of which are going to be in the best of moods. So it has it's good points and bad points.

Originally I was an education major (middle school Math), but I ended up changing that. I may just end up minoring in it or just getting certified at a later date.

It's the satisfaction you get at the end of the day that counts, like you may have made a difference, not how much money you make. I switched my major from a low paying job to another low paying job. I wanted to help kids but I didn't think teaching math was my way of doing so.I wanted to be more involved.

Just curious, what field do you want to educate: elementary, middle school, highschool? Anyways, good luck with that.

Teaching is definitely a respectable occupation to hold. Dealing with kids from various backgrounds, often thanklessly. I actually studied to be in education for a while, so I got just a taste of some of the junk educators put up with. At the same time, you get your summers (sort of) off. And beyond that, making a positive difference in a kid's life is rewarding.

And don't ask me why, but I often think teachers are quite attractive.

We need more Christian teachers. Think about it; you will be influencing around, depending on primary school or high school, 50 kids a year. Everyone has to go through school and for you to not pay out christianity like every history/english teacher etc but present christianity as it is, is great.

There are heaps of oppertunities to share the gospel (be careful how you do it there are laws in some countries, but christimas and easter are gold oppertunities), and you an influence some kids for life. plus its a great job if your interested in missionary work, by teaching esl in asia etc.

Teaching is one of the most important jobs there is. (I'm doing BA/BEdu btw). Be proud to be involved in that area of Gods work, reaching the young.

Teachers are the ones that impart knowlege to us. Yet they can be both good and bad. They can be fountains of information, or monsterous spigots of ignorance.
