(Notice: This chance to make game tournaments has been fully approved of by the administration when I asked. The whole of the project is on my shoulders, so if you have any questions about it, please don't contact any of the staff members... contact me.)

Welcome to the First Official CAA Game Tourny! As you can expect from the title, this is a (single elimination) tournament in which CAAers face off against fellow CAAers.

This tournament will be held using real Single Elimination Tournament Brackets. After the tournament gets started, people will instantly be able to view the stats on the tournament by clicking a simple link.

First thing you need to know is how to sign up. To sign up for this tournament, simply reply to this thread saying that you want in and I will record your name down. Order of registration doesn't matter; your names will be entered into a random data chooser to determine the order of your name entry into the brackets (This is done so that noone can know what possition in the tournament registration will recieve a Bye if we have a number of players which isn't a power of two). Tournament Registration starts Right Now and Ends Tuesday at 6 PM Pacific Time [which is 9 PM Eastern time].

After registration is through and the tournament brackets are completed, you will recieve further instruction. As for now, see the poll and pick which game from the Arcade you would like to see as the game of this tournament! (Poll will be officially closed when registration time ends.)
Note: Penguin Bashing is not an option for Obvious Reasons...

Thank you for reading! We hope that we get a big turnout! Join in on the fun!

I'll jump in.

I'm pulling for Tetris or Pac-Man, though. I'm not as experienced at the rest, so if something else wins, my opponent may as well have a first-round bye.

I have a few ideas about how this tournament should go:

First, it should not be confined to one game; rather, it should be more comprehensive, in order to show the player's overall skill instead of simply giving an edge to those that are particularly skilled in a single game.

For example, think about what would happen if the tournament cosisted of nothing but Tetris or Space Invaders. One would have to play a single game for at least 90 minutes (5 hours in the case of Space Invaders) in order to approach the first place scores, which very few people can even begin to do (if you'll notice, the best 66 Tetris scores are held by only 2 people). That's crazy. Even if I could do it, no game in the CAA arcade is worth playing for that length of time.

Only playing one game one time also opens up the possibility of a loss caused by a bad connection, random IM window pop-up, or any number of other anomalies that can ruin an otherwise great run.

In order to avoid these problems, players would play each game (except Penguin Bashing) once, and the player who wins the most challenges would advance to the next round.

Anyone else think this is a better way to conduct the tournament?

Edit: sorry for the blank post...I accidentally hit the post button before I was done.

... uh... I already put you down.

Ooh, ok. Yes, I know what you mean. This first tournament is kinda a test and not all of them will be just one game. I'm doing just one game this time to get a feel for what we'll need to establish in games for future tournaments. Those tournaments will feature more than one game.

Time for Registration is now up. Your names will now be shuffled and placed into the Tournament brackets. I will post again shortly.

Registration Ended
Tournament Brackets created

The url to find the brackets is as follows: http://www.bracketmaker.com/tlist.cfm?tid=120073

So, now we've all gotten the tournament brackets... now... how do we battle???
Cheating would be fairly easy in this tournament were it not for the arcade's "Challenge" option. Here is how you challenge your opponent in the arcade:

Step0: First check to see if you've been challenged by your opponent first! You will recieve a notice in the Arcade if you have been challenged. If you've been challenged, accept, and play!

Step1: Find your opponent's post in this thread and click their username. This will bring down a dropdown menu; click "Challenge so-n-so in the Arcade"

Step2: Choose your game. In this tournament, it is Tetris, so select Tetris.

Step3: Submit the challenge. After your opponent has played, you will get a PM saying that it's your turn to play.

Step4: Go play!

Step5: Post the score results of the challenge in this thread, bearing in mind that I not only can but will review all challenges on the challenge board to prevent anyone from posting fake scores.

Alright, I'm gonna trust that you guys are at least semi-modest in your punctuality when playing these games, so there isn't gonna be any real timelimmit on this tournament. Of course, if one bracket hasn't played their game out in a week's time, I'll review the case and decide who needs to be taken out of this tournament ;)

If you have any further questions, please PM me! Now, go out, and let's do this tourny!
