Just a quick poll off sorts - have any of you ever been to Africa? If so which country?

And would any of you wish to visit a particular African country?

Just asking - a curiosity poll.

I live here so it makes sense to say that I've spent time in Africa.

I haven't been to Africa but I would be interested in visiting Egypt and the safari areas and maybe the Congo. Wishfull thinking ofcourse.

Congo is a bit dangerous though - Namibia or Botswana would be better for experiencing Africa. And maybe South Africa.

I have to admit that I didn't think I'd find another South African here, but I'm glad I did. Which part of SA? I'm from Gauteng.

Never been, but one day. Kenya might be nice, it's sort of the prototype African tourist destination.

My parents were both born in Africa so I have been to Nigeria and Sudan. Also Egypt, Niger, Cote d'voure (sp?), Togo, Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Liberia, Chad, and Camaroon.

Hmm. Ive never been to africa, but practically everyone i know has.

My best friend took a medical misson trip there (not sure what country), my next best friend was born there as a MK (in the CAR i believe), and so has our former youth pastor and his whole family. (i think they went to chad?)

I would like to visit for at least a little bit... probably south africa or kenya would be my first choice, as the're probably more modern and a bit safer then some of the middle africa countries.

I have mixed feelings about visiting South Arica. I really really would love to, but at the same time I'm scared to, and I'll explain why.

The year before last my mother met a black South African lady who was on a scholarship studying agriculture at university here. She had two of her 3 children here with her, a 2 year old and a 4 month old baby. Since she was desperate for childcare, we offered to look after the children for her, and all 3 of them soon became a part of our family. The children were absolutely gorgeous, and I got particularly close to the 2 year old (who was 4 when he left).

However when the scholarship ended at the end of last year she was required to go back home and work for at least 2 years. So they left, after 2 years of being with us every day. Saying goodbye at the airport was the hardest thing I've ever done, and letting go of my little boy who felt like my own, was heart breaking. At the moment we dont have the money to visit them, and they don't have the money to visit us, so I have no idea when I'll see them again. So in one way I'd love to go to South Africa and visit them. But I'm also scared, because I don't think I'd have the strength in me to say goodbye again.

So that's my story, you probably didn't want to hear all hat, but I thought I'd share anyway.

I am sorry that your friends had to leave, rita. I hate having to move and leave friends, epecially abruptly, which has happened. Even the friend moving away. It's just hard to bear. I hope that you can go to the RSA and that you'll really be able to enjoy seeing your friends again.


I have lived in a couple of African countries as an MK. I lived in Botswana and Kenya, and went to many more countries.

It's so cool to see others who have been to and live in Africa. Hard to find.

Well, most of the childrens programs that showed in the 1980s (Wiekie, Sinbad, Moemin, ens) was actually Anime imported from Europe. But they're "old school" and some I suppose wont even consider it anime. But I can imagine the cast of Sewende Laan dubbing Rourini Kenshin - and it's not pretty.

My cousin Ed was born in the Sudan where his parents were medical missionaries with the old Sudan Interior Mission.When we were younger and he had to choose
which country he had to take his citizenship from we were all hoping he'd have
chosen the Sudan.Just being nasty!
Also during the Boer War my Irish Great Grandma's brother Willie came over and
fought with the 61st Light Infantry.He spent some time in Capetown where another
sister visited him.

Actually, as for me, I have never even been outside the USA V_V but i do plan to go to Japan one day. If i had to go somewhere in Africa, I would definately choose Morroco.

No way! My parents were both with SIM (now stands for Serving In Missions) while in Africa and Japan. I went to quite a few SIM conferences in my lifetime, perhaps I met his parents...

There is so much to see in Africa, you could take a lifetime and not see everything. I've been all over South Africa, Namibia and Botswana, and I haven't even begun to scratch the surface. It's a pitty there aren't more people who visit Africa.

Kidding, I really don't care about seeing one. And there are probably more mummies in Engish museums than in Egypt, anyway.

I would like to visit South Africa, but it's on a big list of places like Australia, China, Italy, England, and Japan. I don't have a great, burning desire to visit any other country (does it make me boring if I'm not big on travel?), so who knows if I will actually make it.

I have never been to Africa. It would be an interesting destination, but I think that if I had to pick which continent to visit, it would be next to last on my list. Fist would be Europe, then Asia, then Austrailia, then Antarctica, then Africa, and finaly South America.
