The only thing that I can think of is, and I may be wrong on this so don't quote me, but people of the Jewish faith can't mark their bodies with tattoos or they can not be given a Jewish funeral when they die.
I am not sure about anything though, or anything else. Personally, I think tattoos are interesting. I am to much of a chicken to get one myself.
Just, if you do decide to get one, make sure you research the parlor and the artist who is going to do it. See some of their previous work, make sure the parlor is clean and instruments sterile, research on how to take care of the tattoo after you get it, and think and rethink the tattoo you want to get...it will be with you for the rest of your life. I think it is a REALLY big decision to make to get one. You have to think if it will interfer with your job prospects, family life down the road...
I guess I just will sum up by just make sure you do your homework and think about it thoroughly.

The only thing I'd say is to put it somewhere where it can be covered if necessary. I don't think they're wrong or anything, though.

Tattoos are not good. It is marking our bodies (which are the temple of the Holy Spirit) with harmful substances that may look cool or pretty for some time, but which over the years causes the area of skin affected to become less than attractive.
Also, the majority of subject matter which the tattoo industry "paints" is currently pretty anti-Christian.
To make things short, a person's body would be a lot happier without them.

I think it's unnecessary and I *know* I'll never get one... but I honestly don't know whether it's bad or not.
There are some areas of the body that are more prone to stretching, though... especially on women who become pregnant sometime. That will affect a tattoo's shape.
Certain social settings or occupations would be better without a tattoo, though, I think. Some employers really don't want to be able to tell you have a tattoo, so the neck or forearm wouldn't be a good place for one.
I'd suggest choosing a design and waiting a couple of years before actually deciding to permanently etch it into your body, though. Yeah, it's a long wait... but if you can't be content with a design for that long maybe a lifetime of seeing it on your skin wouldn't be good either.
What design or theme were you considering?

I would advise against it because once you do get a tatoo, eventually you'll grow tired of it and want it removed, and that can cost up to the same amount you paid for to get it done in the first place. Removal can also be painful and leave scars.

i would never get a permanent one but i like to draw on myself with unharmful pens and stuff as a temporary tattoo. that is the only way i would like it. ^-^

Being as we're all post-Christ believers, I don't think there's something inherently "sinful" about tattoos. I would never get one because of health issues it can cause and because it really won't be cool to have a butterfly tattoo on my upper arm when I'm a married mother of three children, but I'm not going to go around bashing people with the "Holy" mallot over it.

Heh... I draw on myself too. ^-^;
Like once I got really bored when I was studying for a biology test the next day and I ended up doodling Joker's Madogu from Flame of Recca on the entire bottom half of my leg! xD I didn't even realize I had done it till it was finished. o_o; Needless to say I spent a LOOONG time scrubbing in the shower after that. ^-^;
I think its pretty harmless if its just with little pens and stuff. I know I'd never get a real tattoo because a> I'm chicken b> I'm chicken and c> I dont like pain that much ^^; But I dont think I can tell you whether or not to get a real one. Its your choice but you do need to remember that youre body is a temple of God once you belong to Him. Keep it the way He wants. o_o; Sorry I pretty much quoted you Frwl Sorry. ^^;

Speaking as a guy who has three tattoos, I'll say that it isn't very painful, honestly. It kinda hurts, but it's more of an irritating pain, more like, "Ow, stop it" not "OH EM GEE THIS FREAKIN HURTS!"
Course, it depends on where you get it, too. The closer it is to the bone, the more it'll hurt, hence why the one on my arm barely hurt at all, but the ones on my shoulder blades hurt quite a bit.
And these are things I want to have with me for the rest of my life...just remember, barring laser surgery, they're permanent...so make sure you really want 'em for the rest of your life. ^^

aight if you are thinking on getting one research the design that you want and find out all of the meenings to it and pray about it and read your bible but ultametly its between you and God. I have one so I am not agenst it but befor i got mine i had wanted it for more than a year and had researched the shop and the symble and I prayed about it. So befor getting any form of bodey modifacation pray and talk to God about it and wait a few months to make sure that that is what you want done and on your body for the rest of your life. so as far as wht you get just be awayr that there are a few things that i would strongly advise agenst getting any names of bands or people *enless you are their parent and such* band symbles and anime caritures form your fave series but thats up to you those ore just somting i go by.

Well I have yet to read anything that says having a tattoo is a sin and considering how many Christian musicians have them I would thinks that it is ok. In fact, if I didn't have a phobia of needles I would get one myself xD so its sharpies for now lol. But be careful don't go the shop around the corner if you know what I mean.

yep check and see that they sterlize all the stuff befor hand and that the shop is clean and for your own good look at the artists work that they have done befor if they havent been in the biz for a while and dont have a rep to keep up I wouldent go to them. o ya and henna tatts will not be with you forever they fade after 10 years or somthing like that.

I see nothing wrong with them personally, but I don't think I would ever get one. Well, because I may think it looks cool now, but what about a few years from now? Plus I don't like to advertise myself. Also, there have been a lot of dumb trends: barb-wires, tribal, your name on your own neck, the dumb lower back tatoo's (sorry I think they're dumb). I mean, if I got one I would want it be original and have meaning behind it. But yeah, I go no beef with it. I just don't think I would get one. I don't mind being plain

Although we have numerous threads on the same subject, this particular one is going well enough so I won't close it right now. But if it gets rough it'll be locked. Keep it nice.

Personally I see nothing wrong with it as long as its something personal and not anything thats of against god...I know I've wanted one for a long time and I've talked to my ministers and parents about it. I think if you get it on your foot that's a good place cuz you can cover it up if your in a formal setting. A friend of mine has 2 on his shoulders and one on his chest, another has one on his calf, and another has one on her back and toe. They're all christian and prayed about it and went through the proper steps of making sure were they got it was sterile. So I think its great for you to get one if it's something that you've prayed over and truly want ^^

I don't have any problem with tatoos, as long is your heart is in the right place when you get one. If it's just something someone does to be rebellious, I think that's wrong. But if it's not like that, I think it's fine. The only thing I don't like about tatoos, is that sure, it's cool when you're young-- but what about when you're a sixty-two year old grandma with a warped butterfly on your ankle? Not quite so attractive. . . but if you're OK with that, well then by all mean go for it

I hate needles... they are painful and evil.... >_< and what about skin cancer and all that other stuff they say about medical hazards?!
I say if you want a tattoo, draw on your arm with a Sharpie or something XD .....oh wait! Sharpies can cause medical hazards too! (or so the media says) LOL

I think it's pretty much been said that tattoo's in themselves are not sinful. The only reason the Jews were forbidden to have them, in biblical times, was because it was very common for every other group of people on the Earth to have them. Same with the Old Laws of Circumcision, no swine, etc. Of course God wanted to seperate His people from the rest of society so there ya go. And obviously we can eat pork, we're not required to be circumcised, so tattoos are not a sin either. Good site below with cool pics as well as biblical support.

Obviously if you're going to get one think about it thoroughly and carefully. Make sure it's in a place you can cover easily for professional purposes. And make it something meaningful and special to you not just another dragon, skull, chinese/kanji symbol.

mm i havent heard the skin cancer one but if you must know you can't get skin cancer froma needal enless they are injecting it into ya (tha cancer that is) the only real medical problems that I have heard of is that some people are alergic to the ink that is used but thats a very small amount other than that as long as the shop is clean and the equipment is staral (actualy at lest in colorado theres regualtions on how they have to starlize and stuff like put a plastik bag ofer the sprayer and what not) you should be good besides all the needals that i have seen used on tatts are one time use and are taken out of the pacage right in front of ya just like a sergical instrament like forceps. but still pain is an issue at least for me it hurt but not to the point that I would quit actualy funny story i was crackin jokes half way through and i can't even stand getting shots at all im like the bigest baby ever when it come to needals.

I'm with frwl all the way. It may look cool for the time being, but it's permenant. you shouldn't do something like that that you might regret later on down the road. If you want a tatoo, why not just get one of those "peel-off" tattoos. Those look cool and they're temporary, so no harm done. But if you want my two cents, I really wouldn't get one if I were you.

I would like to point out that not everyone shares Volt's views on attractiveness. Everyone is different, and as such, not everyone shares the same standards of beauty. I, personally, find tattoos on women to be quite attractive. I mean, as long as they're not covered with them from head to toe. But if they have a nice tattoo on their ankle, or something, I think that's very cute.
So don't let one man's standards of attractiveness discourage you from getting a tattoo if you really want one. By the same token, don't let another man's standards of attractiveness make you get a tattoo if you really don't want one. It's all about you, and what you want to do, regardless of what anyone's OPINION may be. ^^

I don't have a problem with them (unless the graphic or w/e you're tattooing yourself with is something sick). I'd take a while and really consider this and how it would effect you in the long run and all that. To me personally, it doesn't look very professional to have a tattoo if you're in the bussiness world or something around that. Take into consideration your career. I wouldn't get one ever, but that's cuz I hate needles and pain and I'd go crazy if the only way I could get rid of it was surgery. The most I have is a henna tattoo on my shoulder that says "happiness" in Japanese. Nothing too permentant. But if this is what you really want to do, go for it.

agreeed its even better than the hidden smart flame that actaly makes a good point. Imm gona make a stretch I know its a little out there but this is just how i feel and my advice to galls and hec every one. If you are doing for some other human to try to look better to them just don't do it remeber you can't force some one to love ya so im serous body modifacation, plastic sergary hec the way you dress don't change it for who you think might "be the one" be yourself not some facad or mask that isn't who you are and on that not you can talk to God just like you would to your best friend sure theres a sence of revrence thats always good but he wants to know whats going on in your life and be apart of it in a big way so trust what you get from him in whatever format you get it.
well ths mu rant for this morning wow that feels better hahaha but ya if we all could be as sivalised in all our conflicts.
oya and personaly i hate "fad" tattoos like the entire tribal and now it seems to be going tword the celtic designs so if you get one do it for you only after talking to God and not for any one else.
