When I do feel lonely I either a) go talk to a family member or b) talk to God. Most of the time I dont talk to Him in english but in tongues... I've found it easier to do that, as the English language is very inadequate at times to express how you really feel.

I believe it is also known as glossolalia (sp?) which is common in the the Charismatic movement (also known as Pentacostalism I think), which claims this is the speaking in tongues the apostles did when the Holy Spirit descended in Acts

Well, it's not a matter of learning. I understand it's supposed to be a GIFT of the Holy Spirit, and the person seems to speak in some kind of indescipherable language. Some Christians believe in this, some don't, and since I don't want trouble with a mod, I won't comment on my own opinion and risk a flame war.

Here's a Wikipedia entry if you're interested.

Yeah, I gotta admit, there has been many a time i have found myself lonely and talking out loud to no one. THen one day it hit me, when i was in my car (i have no radio or CD Player, they were stolen...) I realized that it was a perfect opportunity to be in prayer and communion with God. You dont have to be all formal about it even. You can talk to Him like he is in the room with you, and the best part is... He is!

From my understanding, you can really only speak in tongues if you have been filled with the Holy Spirit.

Here are some examples of tongues:

1) When the apostles were filled with the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentacost (you know... the tongues of fire on their head). After they were filled, they went outside and starting speaking in tongues / languages unknown to them. During that time there were Jews from all over the Roman Empire in Jerusalem due to it being a Jewish holy day. When the apostles starting preaching, the jews from different areas could hear them talking in their own language (eg spanish), even though the apostles didn't know that language.
- this is the type of tongues that witnesses to unbelievers

2) When you speak in an un-earthly tongue]1 Corinthians14: 2-4
2For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit. 3But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort. 4He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.[/QUOTE]

I technically am lonely I guess, but very very very rarely do i have instances where i "feel" lonely. In those rare cases I listen to music I don't normally listen to, and I try to change my normal activities.... uuuhhh nevermind.
