Living in Japan! Anyone know how to find churches?

Hi! I used to post here for a short amount of time back in my university days, but after awhile I grew out of posting in forums and stuck to reading from them. Anyways, for some reason or other i've decided to post here again and I would like to ask a question to anyone who knows anything about the topic. I'm going to be teaching in Japan for the next year (maybe three years) as I managed to get into the JET programme. The JET Programme is the world's largest teacher exchange program in the world, and is organized by the Japanese government in order to recruit native English speakers to teach English in Japan. I'll be leaving next month and I was wondering if there was anyone who had resources to find out whether there are any churches in Japan in the place i'm going to teach at. To tell you the truth my faith has not been strong recently, but if I were to be exposed in Japan for a year without any fellowship, i'm afraid i'm not sure how my life will turn out. I'm also trying other sources, but this would be a good start. I am meeting an Australian "Youth Alive" contingent in Tokyo so that might be a good start.

I did a Google search, but it seems that it helps to know what denomination you are looking for, as I couldn't find anything for just "Christian."

If you know what you want, maybe you could find it online.

I Googled and found these:

http://across.co.nz/churches.Japan.html

Good luck and have fun in Japan! *envy* :)

Thanks a lot. Well I'm Protestant, I've gone to a Baptist and Pentecostal churches in the past. I'm gonna be living in Okayama Prefecture. I'm a bit worried that I won't find any churches in my area because i'm going to a country town...

I have a few churches you can check out. I am Protestant too. I am also going to be living in Japan this summer. I will be working at a church in Hamamatsu City. The name is Hamamatsu church of the Savior. I will also be teaching English and assisting the pastor there as well.

Here are some links to a few other churches:

I was also told about a church in Tokyo:

Tokyo Baptist church

I am not Baptist myself, but I almost ended up working here instead of in Hamamatsu.

If you are interested in Hamamatsu church of the Savior please send me a message and I can try to get you some more info before I leave for Japan in July.

Oops!! >.< I didn't realize how far Okayama is from the places I mentioned XD

Maybe though, you could somehow contact those churches and ask the pastors is there are any churches in your area. The pastors in Japan would probably know of more places. Also keep in mind that Japan is about .01% Christian. Which means there might not be a church in your area, but I will pray that you find one to attend.

Actually, I might not mind going to Okayama to go to church, there are a couple of churches there. I kinda enjoy driving so it should be too bad.

The best thing to do might be to try and contact Japanese Christians and find out the story from them.

Try this website for links/contact. I'm sure someone can help.

I have a friend whose brother is attending a Bible college, one actually recognized by the government, in Japan (he's getting his degree in Japanese missions, how cool is that?). I should see him this evening since it's Wed. and I can ask him for a contact E-mail for the college if you want. They should be able to find a church for you.
