I have never been to an anime Con... but I want to sooooo badly!!

When I was living in NYC last fall, I was helping out at a pl school or a fw days call Evangel.. and lucky me.. I GOT TO ASSIST THE ART TEACHER!! <3 <3 :thumb:

I love drawing anime @_@, well, I was helping her set up when I noticed her side bag and it had little anime pins on it! I asked her if she liked anime and she said yeah and not only that but she was also on staff for the Big Apple Anime FEST!!!!!!!!1 She invited me to go... but I couldn't make it..

I wanna go to a Con soooo badly but I live in the middle of nowhere (western NY, out in the country about 9 hours from NYC)

Anyway though, I think if I could go to a Con I have a few chars I could pull off that I know of..

Zell from FF8
... I have the clothes almost exactly like what he owuld wear and all Ineed to do is get a hair cut and bleach my head blonde..

Spike from Cowboy Bebop...
I have done this one already and everyone actually knew who I supposed to be which made me feel god about it. ( did it at colege for a day) I have the right color hair and I can fluff it up really well...

Anyway, I didn't want this post to b so long but..

Who would you dress up as if you could? What anime character do you think you could be?

Oooooooooh, I completely understand, I do. I've never been to one before...bad luck, timing and all that rubbish, though I believe I'll get to go to Anime Weekend Atlanta in late September, even if I must go by myself xD

I'm planning (tentatively...if I have time) on cosplaying Tsunade from Naruto. I think I could come fairly close to looking like her.

I would LOVE to dress up as Chii from Chobits, but I'd have to find someone who loves me enough to commission a costume for me xD

You make a pretty good Spike, huh? Have any pics? Spike's a pretty cool character.

I, too, have never ever been to a con. It makes me sad. If I go, I'll most likely either go as Roger Smith from Big O (pretty easy for me, since I've been wearing my hair like Roger for years now and I wear sunglasses like his every day - all I need is a double-breasted black suit and a pair of black leather gloves) or a male White Mage.

I think with the way cons keep poping up eventuality one will start somewhere where there was never one. Take the Washington DC area. There are I would say 3 at different times of the year within a hour or so of each other. Katsucon, Otakon (Baltimore City) and Anime USA, all of which started small and are now looking for bigger locations or limiting the allowed attendees.
A few hours away there are Animazement in Durham NC (About 5 hours) AMA in Richmond VA (2 Hours) and Neko Con (3 Hours)
Some of the people I know will travel across the country to attend the EXTRA BIG Cons. They will fly or ride to get there. Some of them are Anime Music Video producers.
I have met people from across the country who attend the ones here in the Wash DC area just to be here or at the others. The best thing is to plan months ahead, make reservations for hotels or motels where the con is or near. Figure your mode of transportation to get there. If you buy alot figure to a way to ship it home so you don't have to pay more for airline cargo some of the cons have the US Postal Service or UPS setup shop at the con for people to ship things home.
Put your thoughts together and figure which con is close or find someone willing to start one in a city nearby and come up with a good name for it. :thumb:

I've been to one. And I hate to burst a lot of bubbles, but it was alright. I was speaking, so I got in free (yay! Thank you Keely!), but I didn't buy anything and a lot of cosplayers really freaked me out. It was ok...but I wouldn't want to go to one alone or just for the heck of it, really.

Heed You think the Western part of NY is bad? A friend of mine (Our founder of our amine club) went to work for 84 Lumber as a manager. He was asked to transfer to LA CA to operate a store out there and then was transfer to Dodge City, Kansas. He called it "No Anime Hell" meaning no place to get anime except by mail. No anime clubs you name it. He was glad to get back here but the club folded after he got back because it was in a community college and we were having trouble getting students to join to keep it going. Most of the club was being made up of people who enjoyed anime but were not students.
Most cons are started by college anime clubs or people interested in selling anime items.

I went with my two buddies to MegaCon last year.

I had a blast. Met George Lowe (Space Ghost), bought Casshern, got to laugh at bad cosplayers, and to top it all off, a Psycho le Cemu concert at the end.

I'll be going again next year.

x3;;;; aw man, cons are awesome! So much to buy and do and watch. *_*; and COSPLAY! I've cosplayed Merle from Escaflowne, Goku from Saiyuki, Thatz from Dragon Knights, Heimdall from Matantei Loki Ragnarok in the past. This year, I'm going to AX as Ichinomiya Kantarou from Tactics and Shuichi Shindou from *insert no discuss title here*. I think I've done my fair share of costumes...o.o; But I'd love to cosplay Loki from Matantei Loki Ragnarok and Edwards from Tactics sometime in the future, as well. ^_^

There's no likelihood of me ever going to a con anytime soon, considering A.) I live in the middle of nowhere; the nearest one would probably be in Nashville, B.) My parents would have no interest in taking me to one and C.) I am the only one of my friends who is into anime/manga. -_-;

Maybe when I'm in college...
