The reason i started this thread is cause in a world where most parents are like "ewww. Anime is evil!" it's refreshing to have parents who actually watch some anime and have favorite characters!

wow that seems to be somewhat true... but i can think of some with both parents (katakura kippei from aishiteruze baby for example)

I do appreciate the older members of CAA as well. Not so much because you are parents, but because of the years of experience that you bring to the forums, in addition to a decidedly different vantage point on life. At times that it quite refreshing.

Hmm. Wonder if I can twist this to include me and my dear. XD Nah, I'm not even gonna try.
I wish my mom would join CAA. She likes a couple anime, but the ones she likes are good ones. Wolf's Rain, Azumanga Daioh, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex... But on the other hand, I posess rather a different personality on the internet, because I'm not limited by my shyness. ^^;; It might be a bit embarassing.

You're right, they didn't. And I wish they had. Because the lack of mention of the King during the Silver Millennium has led to HUNDREDS of bad fanfics trying to explain who he was.

Well, i'm fairly new to anime...... but i've seen episodes of Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and Rahxephon.......... and Spirited Away and the first Ghost in the Shell movie.

Guess I qualify. I've been an anime parent for ... let's see ... about 2 or 3 years. My 'children' discovered anime and manga AFTER high school. In fact, after homeschool / high school. I have 4 children, but only 2 are fans, one of which is also a member of CAA.

From my limited experience, I see that anime is not limited to G rated. It requires careful consideration when choosing rentals, or purchases. Anime has been a hidden and very different animated film & comic book type -- it seems to me in America, until recently. It is becoming mainstream or will, I believe. I'm not sure that is good, but the quality and commitment leaves American animation in the dirt -- so maybe it will ultimately influence American for the good.

I am very taken with the beauty of much of the anime I have seen. But the story lines are sometimes vague to me (partly because of the cultural differences), but can be very meaningful. Certainly this does not apply to all, or even most. My son is very knowledgeable and is willing to help Mom to understand, fortunately.

My first exposure was LAIN which I was able to catch on TV, partly because I was very much into the computer, and a sci-fi fan. It was very dark and I didn't like the suicide references, but I really enjoyed it. (That is why I chose Lain for my avatar.)

I have since found that these antimated films can pack a wallop in entertainment and thought provoking themes.

I like Manga, but less. Why? The stories have lacked any real thought provoking themes. I read several of the first volumes of Kodocha and liked it. But as I read other stories, the storyline has not varied more than slightly. But then I am unwilling to delve into the more mature stories. Wholesomeness is important to me.

I am still learning about this wonderful Japanese art form. The history of it is fascinating.

I think you'll find that most anime came from a manga, and that the manga versions are usually comparable. As with anime, there is a wide variety. You have stated one of the things I find most disappointing in some stories (static storylines), but I think you'll find that many manga (even excluding "mature" ones) have deep or at least involving storylines.

Even though I'm as old or maybe older as some of the Anime Parents I am
not one myself because of the fact that I haven't been introduced to
Miss Right as yet.

I am however an Anime Cat Owner(ok so my Tiger doesn't watch anime,still I am a Anime fan who owns a cat! :lol:

).
At least from my expierence when I do have children I will be able to know
what anime to guide them to watch.

Er...I should say when I find Miss Right(ok I could break in here with
a pun about the fact that my 5x's great grandfather George Washington
of Surry co.,Va. eventually found Miss WRIGHT,but I will refrain from bad
genealogical puns! :lol:

Yes, I would agree. When I first got my hands on manga, I read non-stop. It drew me in. I was very surprised.

^^ Yeah, it's cool to see parents who are into things that other adults may find 'kiddy'. Plus, I always like hearing what adults have to say about certain trouble-areas in anime, too. ^_^
