Road Trip Horror Stories

So I'm sitting here in the computer lab at A&M, and I'm thinking of the crappy 7 hr trip we took down here. So, I've decided to share for your reading pleasure the story of our trip down here two years ago. Ahem.
We were all excited about getting to go to State 4-H Round-up, we were not however looking forward to the trip down to A&M. Road trips are crap and this one was not any different. We (me & other people whose names I can't remember) started out at the extension office at about six thirty am. We made it out of the county okay. We stopped at various truck stops for food and good drinks (ha!). At one stop we saw a chinese guy with a mullet. So we're all riding in our county agent's Jeep when we hit Decatur. We start to hear some funny noises coming from the engine. Not knowing anything about cars, we all decided that it would be ok and that we should just keep driving. Well, after a while the car would barely move. Our agent remembered that he had seen a Dode dealership a ways back down the road and we slowly drove around the block to get back there. This is where it get interesting. As we pulled into the dealership's driveway, there was a loud noise and the car stopped moving. We got out and pushed it in the rest of the way. Our county agent goes into the dealership and asks if they can give us a hand. The dealership called a car rental place for us. While we were waiting inside, a nice Asian lady told that the dealership was having a special, "Free fried rice! On a stick! Only a dollar! Fried rice free!" Yeah...
So ends the tale (there's really a little bit more but I don't have enough time to tell y'all about it).

Ah, road trips...
I've been skiing a bunch of times, and we always drive. It's around a 13 hour trip to Denver from where I live. Well, spring break of '04, my dad, my friend Kayla, and I were driving to there, and around 3 a.m., I fell asleep to while the song "Dreamweaver" was playing on the cd playing in the car. When I awoke, it was also playing. I asked, "Was I only asleep for a couple seconds?" Kayla responded, "No, more like a couple
hours. This is the fifth time this cd has played through. I never want to hear "Dreamweaver" again in my LIFE."

Oh, I forgot to mention that the reason the car wouldn't move was because the drive shaft had fallen out.

Having to pee really bad while being stuck in the middle of a traffic jam on a bridge. Now that's horrifying. O_O
We had to drive to NY about a year ago in November and I had just gotten my license, so I was forced to help drive up there. Part way through the trip, my dad said he would drive if I pulled over in the Rest Stop, but I couldn't see where it was, then he said something that confused me and I couldn't figure out where I was going. He then shouted and grabbed the wheel, pulling us into the Rest Stop. Good thing, too-- I almost hit the median.
I literally didn't drive till the next year.

Well my road trips have been where I am following a group of people or people following me and lose them somewhere or get lost with the directions in the city of Durham NC with three cars of anime members behind me trying to get to or from Animazement.
One trip to the beach I am behind members of my fire department in my 78 Ford van and got a flat tire, well they never looked back to see my van pulling to the side of the road. I knew where we were staying so we were just late getting there having to change the tire.
On the way to Animazement I had members of the anime club following me through Richmond Va in early morning work traffic. Well I got in the wrong lane and then jumped back over and everyone behind me was way ahead of me. Lucky the club president was with me and told me how to get to the con which was in Raleigh that year.
I remember one road trip to the beach when my brother and myself had cars. We were traveling on the interstate had all the windows in my brother's car. We had Zebra striped cloth on the back deck and on some throw pillows which were sitting on the back deck. Well a friend of ours was sitting in the back and the next thing he saw was this striped thing flying past his face hit me on the arm and out of the car and on to the road and under a truck. Lets just say we were not going back for it.

I was driving up to the mountains with my dad and my brother once. I was hungry, so I was trying to open one of those tuna cans that come in the tuna lunch packs and I sliced my index finger open from the tip to almost the palm of my hand and started bleeding all over the place.
We had to pull over on the side of the road and wrap my hand in gauze. That was fun.

I've never had anything really that horrifying happen on car trips. I've been on a lot and Australia is pretty big, so most journeys aren't shorter than 7 hours. I really hate travelling and can only listen to music as I get really bad motion sickness and nausea. This is a real bummer as I'm a bit of a bookworm, so if I could read in the car everything would be aokay! But nooo! My worst is feeling like I need to throw up while we are going through hill areas (and there is nowhere to stop) or when you really need to "go", but you have to hold on until the next town (which is like 1 hour or more away).

I went to Charleston WV once. And while that may sound dull to you, factor these things in:
1. We drove.
2. All the way from the Bay Area of CA.
3. And we didn't always find an inn.

Road trips are fun most of the time for me.
Only things i dislike:
Driving through North Dakota. it's like living in an eternal state of boredom.
Sitting in one of those middle seats in a minivan that you know is made for a dwarf (i'm 6'2) for over 6 hrs straight.
Doing a "drive all night and day" thing is kind of fun, as long as you make sure the drivers get enough sleep in between rounds.
Traffic jams are fun to me (because they never happen in my city since they expanded the roads way too much) so is driving in rain (especially torrential downpours), hail and high winds. As long as i'm very careful, i like the excitement.
My family has driven from michigan to:
Colorado, Montana, Maine, Florida, Virginia, and all of the states in between.

the cops once made a road block for our youth group bus. some of the kids ducked taped each other and pretended to beat them for other cars and put ketchup on the windows. Some one must have thought they were serious...

hehe, that's pretty funny.
This year on our way down to A&M we were forced to listen to country music for about 3 hours. Then on the way back, we were stuck in a traffic jam just outside of Texas Motor Speedway and then someone put in a Dennis Jernigan cd and we listened to that the rest of the way back here. I really thought that I was going to die.
