Sheezyart VS. Deviantart

Postby Linksquest » Mon Jun 06, 2005 8:49 am

ok... i have a deviantart account and today i went to sheezyart cause someone from here has an account there. I had never heard of Sheezyart before. When i got there i was surpirsed to find that sheezyart was almost identical in format to deviantart!!! Which came first??? And which one is better in your opinion and why.

I like Deviantart better. Perhaps I'm biased because I already have an account there. I think it looks cleaner than Sheezyart, but some of the people there are really *censored*. but that's my take and I'm not too interested in starting yet another account.

Me...I'm getting to where I don't like either one. DA came first, and for a while, SA really kicked their butt, but now the service has become where you often can't even connect to the server (click my gallery link now and see if it'll connect...e.e). I'm not moving to DA or anything (since I've never liked DA for my own reasons) but I don't do much with my SA account anymore either. .

I agree with ink. DA and SA are both...eeehh. DA's policies strike me as having a doulbe-standard (not going to elaborate on that one lest an angry rant ensue) and sheezyart is somewhat unreliable and more obviously ridden with hentai images. =/

I like DA better simply because there are more people there I know and get along with. I don't feel like signing up on another art site anyway. The amount of nudity on DA bothers me.

=/ Agreed, Coby. It wouldn't be so bad if they kept the nudity somewhat hidden, but I really dislike having shirtless women popping up in the "daily deviation" while I'm browsing the site. In that way, I think sheezy is a little better - they do have more obviously erotic nudity, but at least they usually cover it up with a "MATURE" label. =o=; I don't understand the function of a "MATURE" labelling on DA if it doesn't block you from seeing the said mature content.

Exactly. They make the option to block mature art, but it doesn't work on DDs. I hate that, especially since there are so many young kids on DA.

AMEN. Sometimes on DA there will be a "Over 18 only please." But that is very few and far between. I feel it very annoying with the "daily deviation" when they have th nudity there as well... I would never let my younger brothers have an account on either because of that. ::sigh:: so evil. :waah!:

Amen to like, the last five comments. *doesn't really know if it's actually five or not, but is vehemently angered by all the disgusting things* My parents 'okay-ed' my DA account, but I odn't like going there so much anymore just because I don't want them or my brothers coming up behind me and seeing some of that stuff. *goes off to burn something*
Love wins.

Soooo...any opinions on Side7?

That's kinda where I have my only remotely active account, I'm kinda intimidated by DA...

I think it's actually older than DA, it seems to be significantly less popular and it has a really different format. Not to be mean, but the quality on Side7 is a little lower than DA and it's less of an active community. But I'm still really fond of it because it was my first ever online art account, and the rules are pretty strict about content. I think it can be found here:

I liked Sheezy waaaaay better than DA. For a while, anyway. The service deteriorated pretty much immediately after I signed up, which figures. At Sheezy people were generally nicer to me, and it isn't so overwhelmingly big like DA. I don't like the elitist attitude on DA and I don't feel comfortable with the size of the place.

Also, on SA there might be more "mature" art, but it's marked as such and you can't see it til you actually click on it, which I'm happy with. But their server is so unreliable now, and many of the people on my watch list have left, so I don't post in it anymore (not like I'm doing a lot of art these days anyway).

I use DeviantArt and don't really have anything to complain about it. I mean, the service is free so.....

About the mature art, I solve that by being pretty selective with the ppl I watch and do not make random searches there. I'm not really interested in the other 70% of stuff that's on DA (it's too big anyway) and just stick to my crowd. So, has Mave seen much nudity or mature art on DA? Nope, not really. ;)

I love using this service as the perfect example of what I do as a hobby to my non-anime fan friends and they think it's a great thing. Those who devwatch me have faithfully given me feedback and constructive criticisms so I'm pretty pleased with the accountability there. I can't say the same for myself. I ought to give my buddies more comments and feedback on their stuff.

As for Sheezyart, I will not use it for the sake of simplicity, which has nothing to do with its service. As it is right now, I have way too many things to do online already and what I need last is another account to maintain. *nods*

DeviantArt is good to browse (I don't have an account there) but does have some questionable content. Its also a bit elitist in attitude and size too. I also visit a place called Elfwood to check out other artists work. Its always interesting to see what others are doing, although there are some very dark and weird artworks there. Some great imagination though.

So far I've only heard of DA and Elfwood. Are there any other good places to host a gallery without nudity/porn? It is good that you can avoid nudity on DA like you mentioned, Mave, but if there is a place where there is a good community and no dodgy pictures, that'd be awesome.

Hmm... I wonder if there's a Christian free art gallery server up somewhere. That could be the ultimate. :)
