Sleepwalking.

I've gone sleepwalking, what...three times in my life? Even so, I'm petrified that I'm going to do something dangerous or embarassing. Once I tried to walk out the front door in the middle of the night, and now we live in a house that has railing and catwalks. It's perfectly conceivable that I'll walk right off and kill myself.
So I'm wanting to know if anyone has info on what circumstances cause sleepwalking and how likely it is I'll injure myself or do something mortifying. (Like running naked through the house, for instance.)

I'm not exactly sure what causes it. If you're really worried about it, you should probably see a doctor who specializes in this stuff and make sure your parents know about it. If it's only 3 times in your whole life, though, and you're 16, I'd say you're doing pretty good. I'm 18 and I've done it once. My dad was still up and I was apparently walking through the house with a glazed over look in my eye. >_>; Dad asked me what I was doing and I sounded like I was hopped up on drugs apparently and I responded "Juuuust checkin' everything out." My little sister told me alllll about that one for a few weeks after it happened.
Anyway, if it's only 3 times and you're not sleepwalking every other week or something, you're probably alright.

My older sister Esther sleep walked once or twice a week for about 5 years. She would do some odd things let me tell you.
She would wake up in the bathtub full of cold water.
She would come and stand be my bed at night, and at my two other sisters beds. It would freak me out. One time my sister Kim woke up with a knife in her bed she thinks Esther must have put it there in her sleep walking.
She never got out of the house that we know of.

I once tried trekking off into the forest with my sleeping bag in tow when I was sleepwalking. It was kinda freaky, because we were camping in the middle of nowhere, it was the middle of the night, it was pitch black, I had somehow managed to scramble out of the top bunk and my parents found me trying to get the trailer door open (it was thankfully locked).
I also had a few sleepwalking incidents last year when I was on an orchestra tour and I was having to billet in a new home every night for a few weeks. It's rather disconcerting when you wake up in a dark hallway at the top of a flight of stairs in a strange house..

Well, first off, I'll say that I hope you wear pajamas to bed.
Otherwise, I really don't know much about sleep walking, but I think sleepwalkers appear to be awake. Their eyes are open and they have some awareness of what's going on around them. They may act strangely, or they may be normal - it's just that they have no memory of what happened when they awake. I don't think it's too likely you'll do a header off a second story balcony. But, like I said, I don't have very much experience with it. Have you tried googling it?

Sleep walking is a really wierd thing. I have done it once. It is pretty scary to think about to. It's really wierd how it works you know. Your eyes our open. Some times you act normal and respond normally to people. But you don't remember a thing.

A long time ago, I slept on the floor in my mom's room, because that's where the only air conditioner was. One night, I stood up in the middle of the night for no reason. She asked me if I was awake, and I responded "No." I've also used the restroom and played with pots and pans downstairs, all while alseep.
