Question..Is this wrong?

Ok, I have a question.. A friend of mine wanted me to design a tatoo for her..so i did..She hasn't gotten it done yet.. but anyways..my question is this:
Is it a sin to design a tatoo for someone to get?
Because I have read in Leviticus that it is against God's law to get a tattoo..but was it bad of me to design one for someone? I am afraid that I am causing someone to sin by helping them choose a design..
I would rather this friend of something decent like a fairy instead of something bad..but still..???????

Okay, this is a subject of a lot of debate, and I hope it doesn't turn into such, but I will offer you my opinion, having three tattoos.
In the days of Moses, certain symbols were etched into the body to denote what clan you were part of, or for pagan rituals, or whatnot. Since God did not want His people to be associated with pagans, it was forbidden for them to have markings etched into their skin.
Also, they would not have had any way to fully sterilize the needle at the time, and infection would have resulted.
To me, we are no longer under the ritualistic obligations of the Old Testament, merely the moral ones. Since getting a tattoo is not a moral thing, I see no problem with it in this day and age.
I lump tattoos along with eating pork and stuff like that. I mean...if you actually read the Old Testament, you're not allowed to wear clothing made of two different types of material. Also, "Priests must not shave their heads or shave off the edges of their beards or cut their bodies." Since my pastor is clean-shaven, has he violated God's teachings? Hardly. Thus, that is why I say tattoos are fine and dandy.

I think I'm in agreement with kammerite on this one. If you feel the holy spirit leading you to not do this, then by all means do not, otherwise...

Ah this is a good thread! My roomate wants a tatoo and her fiancee had several and I was just curious on the topic. Thanks!
What about girls getting tatoos? I mean not Biblically, but what do you all think of that???

Here's a site that I really like. The Bible Support section really clarifies things nicely. And alot of those tattoos are really good looking as well especially the Last Supper, the Saints, and many of the Jesus ones. I plan on getting a form of the Lion of Judah with Jehovah in Hebrew under it on my left breast.

And as far as tatoos on a woman go I think tatoos can look good on anybody female or male. But I like the small tatoos that are popular with women on their ankles, hips, and such.
It's best I think to actually get something that's somewhat meaningful to you and not just some dragon or skull you saw out of the artist's samples. And of course have them put in a place that you can cover easily for professional purposes.

I am not a big one for tatoos, I dont think that it is a sin to have them, just a bad decision. I would say, that if you thought that it was wrong to have a tatoo, designing one for another person would be seeting a double standard. Otherwise I would see no problen, moraly, with it.

Yup, that's what I did with my tattoos. I made sure they were easily covered by regular clothing for that purpose alone.
And to answer your question, Kisa, I think tattoos on women are pretty sexy. ^^;;

I'm not a fan of tattoos myself, but I don't think they are morally wrong. You just have to listen to what the Holy Spirit is telling you.

I totally agree with Kae and OldPhil.
For myself, I would worry about infections with a tattoo and the pain of being stuck with a pin over, and over, and over, and over again.
*ouch* My dad actually had all his tattoos from his gang days removed; he told me it hurt.
I'm just not a big fan of them. However, if my son or daughter wanted one - don't get any ideas
- I wouldn't have a problem. I mean if they had only one tattoo, tastefully done, and the person who did the tattoo passed all health standards, and they were already moved out of my house, and they paid for the ONE tattoo with their own money.... eh, I'd really have to think about this....

As most have already said, I don't really see much wrong w/ getting or designing a tatoo. Personally, I wont get one because one, I don't want a permanent image I can't get rid of if I get tired of it; secondly, I have no reason or ineterest to get one.

I'll avoid getting the blood marks of the pagans, but that's just me.

ROFL, I'm caught in between.
I'm 50/50. On one hand, Kae is completely right, then again, tatoos are a grey area. Like Guns. Guns help cops, yet also help bad people. So Do YOU feel comfertable working at a gun designing corporation?
Also, Tatoos, when you think about it, Are perminant, you are perminantly associating yourself with the symbols and marks that are on your body. I'm old fashion. Even though Tatoos might not be morally wrong, I beleive that a lot of people today, especially Teens, compromise too much. They keep saying "oh this isn't so bad, and that's not so bad either" and before you know it. Your Morals and Values are all down the drain. So you have to be carefull.
Honestly I think Tatoos are ugly, no matter what they are. I also think breast implants are ugly, steroid muscles are also ugly. But I'm old fashioned and this is all my opinion.
Tatoos? To me? They're like kissing girls. They might not be sinfull or wrong. But like the disciple Paul said, it's best not to touch a woman [before marrage] Tatoos, Blood & Gore Movies, Kissing, it's all a grey area and you must go on your own journey to discover if it's good for YOU or not.

I think like everyone else that it totally depends on the person. However I think
there should be some ground rules:
1.Tattooes should be discreet and not too noticeable
2.Anything that might be considered suggestive or obscene should be avoided
3.For good reason areas like women's breasts, buttocks, etc.should be avoided
when getting a tattoo
4.Don't overdo it,there are people out there who literally cover themselves from
head to toe and points inbetween with tats(not only is this painful but quite expensive)
If I ever got a tat myself I would perfer one of one of my favorite anime femmes
like Mitsuki Sanada or perhaps the Dark Magician Girl.

LOL good points.. I won't be getting one.. but my friend is also pretty wierd..She likes certain things that i don't agree with..not that they are horrible or anything..and when she asked me I was like, "ok..how can i design something that she would like..but at the same time still be modest about it?" I want to design her tattoo so she won't get somethign dumb.. ya know? Cuz either way, she is getting one.. plus it was kind of an honor to be asked...
Well your imput is greatly appreciated.. ^_^

Well here's my imput in the matter... To design a tatoo isn't wrong... in and of itself. Now, if you're drawing like nekkid people or something for it and it isn't tasteful (I'm one who believes that there's a difference between artistic nude and pr0n), or anything else that is bad, then I'd say that you're using your God-given artistic skills for a sinful thing.
The matter of getting a tatoo however? Yes, it's definitly wrong. We are told in Leviticus not to do it and in Paul's first letter to Corinth that our bodies are "the temple[s] of the Holy Ghost which is in [us]." We shouldn't be adding graffiti to God's temple.

I'm in agreement with Kea...I don't think that it's a sin to get tats..I have friends with sleeves. But you should examine the motives behind getting a tattoo...I don't think that that you should get one that is obscene or in a suggestive place like MLover was saying.
As for designing a tat I don't think that there's anything wrong with that. Actually I've had one or two of my friends ask me to do that for them. Just don't lower your standards for them. And make sure it looks cool

According to the Bible, you have a choice. You can have either the Law or grace - but not both. Either you have the capacity to sin and remove yourself from God's favor, or Jesus has permanently taken care of the matter once for all time. This would mean that nothing is forbidden - even though some things are just bad ideas. (and some things are very bad ideas - but they won't change God's opinion of you, they'll just make your life less pleasant. Like the line I've heard - Q: What if I commit adultery? A: God won't leave you - but your wife will. God will protect you, but if you rob a bank, you might have to spend some time in jail. Just be smart about things. Our liberty is tempered by love, but we do well to exercise prudence as well.)
Now, personally, I'm not so much a fan of tattoos, but this is an aesthetic opinion, not a moral position.

Did you read this entire thread before posting? Kae, Dude, others, and I have already made points on this. Are Christians allowed to eat pork? Of course they can. Do we have to sacrifice animals and such to God? No of course not. Besides the moral laws of the Old Testament mainly the Ten Commandments we're not required to adhere to the rituals and customs of the ancient Hebrews.
I posted a good link on the last page anyway if you want more but here's the support section again. Like it says in the link there the Corinthians verse is taken out of context and is not against tatooing but fornicating with ritualitic prostitutes to Aphrodite.

For me, tatoos decrease someone's attractiveness by fifty percent.

I am hoping this thread can be left open. The debating should be toned down. Its fine for everyone to state there opinion. I myself am quite hypocritical on the matter. I find tattoos on guys fine...but ugly on girls. Why? I don't know. When I see a girl with a tattoo it just totaly turns me off. I cannot explain why...it just does. Yet, I would see nothing wrong with getting one done myself. Just make sure its somthing your gonna like when your old and saggy. I would also say pray about it. If its somthing that convicts you...don't do it. Don't worry about what other people say...let the Holy Spirit guide your decision on it.

Remember, though, the words of Paul in 1 Cor 10:23 (They also appear in another part of the book, and you know that when God's Word says something twice that it's really important)... "All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not."
So it comes down to the question of "Is this expedient for me?" The answer, I believe, is no. 1. It has physical consequenses in the future to have one. Trust me, I know this cause my dad has one. 2. I go to a Christian School, and they wouldn't let you have a tattoo in school if it were a cross that says "I am a follower of Jesus" on it. It draws unfitting attention to yourself. 3. Your views on the tattoo's contents will probably change over time. Chances are that you don't want to have one as a grandparent or anything, y'know? 4. Most importantly is the point about our bodies being temples of the Holy Spirit that I already brought up. I don't think that there will be tattoos in heaven.
Anyways, yikes, gotta cut it short cause church is in like 10 minutes...

Did you even read what I wrote Frwl? Or were you just so caught up in the ego rush of arguing with someone that you totaly missed it? STOP the debating. That goes to everyone in this thread. Stating your opinion is one thing...but shooting back a rebuttal everytime someone posts somthing that you disagree with is tiresome. Next time someone posts somthing like that, its getting deleted. We clear? If you feel the need to bicker like children, at least take it to PM. I hate having to run around playing mommy on these boards because nobody can act like adults. Not everything needs to be a debate people.

Wow...heh, now that i think about it.
Whenever I see a person walking down street, or in class. I think, "Gee what a sweet person" until they move into a better view and I see a Barbed Wire Tatoo on their leg. Then I just think... "how... distasteful, increative, sort of... trashy without the trash"

sorry, but I just can't keep quiet.
I go to a Christian School, and they wouldn't let you have a tattoo in school if it were a cross that says "I am a follower of Jesus" on it. It draws unfitting attention to yourself.
dressing like a punk or in other "weird" fashions also draws attention to yourself. does that make it a sin? if you dress clean-cut and are neatly groomed and good looking, that also draws attention. see my point?
I don't think that there will be tattoos in heaven.
I think this is irrelevant because we will be given new bodies. we'll be transfigured. that's probably the reason there won't be any, lol. not because God kicks you out for having one.
