I shall fetch my puzzle story from the other topic...

"It's about this woman who buys a puzzle in an old junk store. The cover is scratched up so that she can't tell what the picture is, the box is taped shut, and the title is "The Strangest Puzzle in the World". She takes it home to her apartment and lays out all the pieces. As she does so, she notices that some of the pieces have a pattern that resembles her apartment's wallpaper. Nevertheless, she starts to put the edges together. As she works on the puzzle, she can eventually tell that it shows a scene in a room. Specifically, someone sitting at a table in a room.

She stops for a moment, a little afraid, although she doesn't know what of. Telling herself that this fear is silly, she continues to work on the puzzle. When it's completed, she stops dead and stares. It shows her apartment, with her sitting at the table. Only two things are different: the look of pure, blind terror on her face, and a strange face at the window like no human on this earth possesses. Feeling sick to her stomach, she tells herself once again not to be silly, and goes over to the window to prove to herself how ridiculous this is. She pulls up the shade...and sees a horrific face..."

you said you had another one!

Actually, I said "Wanna hear another?", which did not necessarily mean I *had* another. Just a question. But let's see...ooh, I've got an idea. I'll tell the story in bits, and you can make appropriate comments like you're listening to me or something.

Once, a college student was driving back to his college after visiting his parents. It was strange weather that night, the sky being perfectly clear except for the pouring rain. He had a long way to go, but he had the heat up and some of his favorite music on (The Pillows, in case you care), and he was always one to like car trips, so he wasn't bothered.
A bus sign came up in his headlights a couple yards down the long straight road. He wouldn't have even noticed it, but something caught his eye. A teenage girl was standing by the bus stop sign, only a year or two younger than him.

Never mind, I don't have time to wait.

He slowed and pulled over by the bus stop. The girl barely looked up; the rain didn't seem to bother her in the slightest. She was pale and very thin, but not to the point where it looked unhealthy, with straight black hair falling in a sheet down her back. She wore a simple white dress. The student got out of his care and walked over to her.
"Miss?"
The girl looked up, blinking rain out of her eyes. The student felt a shiver go up his spine. Her eyes were crystal blue, and the saddest eyes he'd ever seen. They seemed to be begging something of him, although he didn't know what it was.
"Miss? I..." He suddenly felt stupid, realizing that she was probably waiting for the bus. "Do you need a ride? It's...coming down pretty hard..." he ended lamely.
"Would you?" she asked. "Thank you. I hope it's not too far out of your way."
"Not at all," he said, too transfixed with her pleading blue eyes to remember that he didn't know where he was taking her. "C'mon, you have to get out of the rain..." He gave her his jacket, which she draped over her shoulders, it being at least a size too big for her.
He took directions from her to her house, which didn't end up being that far out of the way in the end. She got out at the end of the driveway and walked up to the door.
The student returned to his college and had a hard time getting to sleep that night. The next day, he realized that the girl still had his jacket. He drove back up that weekend, to the house he had seen her enter. When he knocked on the door, a middle-aged woman answered it.
"Um," he said by way of introduction, "I gave your daughter a ride back here last weekend. She forgot to give me back my jacket."
The woman stared at him, and he noticed that she had the same pleading eyes, only less so.
"My daughter's been dead for over ten years. She was hit by a truck by that bus stop out by the road, waiting in the rain."
He stared back, his heart beating fast. "But...how can that...?"
The woman looked as if she understood, on some level. She told him her daughter's name and pointed him to the gravesite, a mile or so up the road. He got back in his car, his hands shaking as he turned the key.
The student found his jacket draped across the headstone.

You wanna hear a scary story? Gather 'round, kids.

You may think your life sucks now, but when you get out of school and get a real job, you don't have summer vacation. Yep, you'll be lucky if you get two weeks of vacation for the entire year.

Also, you know those bullies that harass you? Oh, they're not gone...they're still there. But instead of taking your lunch money, they're telling you why a raise isn't feasible for the rest of this fiscal year.

Oh, and do the words "unpaid mandatory overtime" mean anything to you guys yet? Don't worry, they will soon enough.

And once you buy that car you want so bad, gas prices will probably be almost three dollars a gallon.

I'd better stop now...I don't want to scare these kiddies too bad.

Those are great stories, AngelSakura... do you write them youself? Very nice. The puzzle story's "face in the window" is something that actually used to creep me out a lot. I kept thinking there'd be a monster in the window (zombie w/ rotting flesh, trying to get inside! AHH!)

Nah, I don't write them. I used to read a lot of them, though. These are my mega-awesome retellings. Actually, I need to fix that last one. I was in huge hurry and messed up the end.

Bob! NOOOOOOoo! I will be getting nightmares forever!

Alright, alright. I've got a retell. Probably not as good as AngelSakura's, but I'll try.

Once upon a time, there was a lovely little girl who always wore a large ribbon around her neck. One day her next door neighbor, Jim, asked why she always wore the ribbon. She said, "I can't tell you. You'll find out someday."

He waited patiently and after quite a few years, reached high school. The girl and Jim became high school sweethearts. After highschool the pair got married.

"Will you tell me why you wear that ribbon now?" asked Jim.
"No, you must wait and find out."she replied.

Years flew by and eventually the girl... now a woman... got dreadfully sick. She was taken to the hospital, and the doctor was unable to say what was ailing her. Jim was very scared. The woman asked for the nurse to bring him into the room where she now was kept. Jim came in and took her hand.
"Jim," she whispered, "I'm dying."
"No," he said, "don't leave me!"
" Jim," she said very seriously, "I'm not going to get better. I will now show you why I wear this ribbon."
Jim, silenced by curiousity, watched her intently as she began to undo the knot in the ribbon. She slowly pulled it loose...
AND HER HEAD FELL OFF!

The end ^_^

That story TERRIFIED me when I was little. I like the "red thread" version better.

Hmmm. Never heard that version.

Only real difference is that the ribbon is a red thread. It's just creepier.

I've got one that's a mix of two true sories:
Once apon a time a programmer worked very hard on a complex business website, and finally decided to go live with it. So he placed the website on his server. Then as he spent the next day at a business expo, suddenly his server crashed unexplicibly (It was running win 2003 server :-) and IIS would not work nor show his website no matter how hard he probed. After several menacing hours hiding inside his booth at the expo frantically pounding his laptop, he thought he discovered that for his problem could not be fixed without reinstalling windows on his server. All the while he was handing out literature at his booth and smiling as people talked about how awesome his website would be, when they checked it out later.

lol but it has a happy ending: he finally discovered that a permissions setting was wrong on his computer and got it fixed.

So far I think kaemmerite's story (1st page) is the scariest. It's scary because...

IT'S TRUE!

Termites are pretty scary too though. We're having an inspection done next week because something is eating our deck.
