New Type is usually a sealed magazine because it comes with DVDs Volt, you're probably thinking of Animerica, which ain't cheap either. Newtype is a gorgeous magazine with a lot of art and information... unfortunately it costs over 10 bucks off the news standand not much less in subscription.

I would love to subscribe but it's so expensive. I can't even read through it when I see a copy in a store since it's in a stupid plastic wrap. >_<

Yeah, the subscription price is pretty much a joke. Plus, the few copies I've read I've only been interested in around 1/3 of the stuff, so it was a very expensive experience...

Easy for me to say because I'm not a young person strapped for cash, but as I can afford it I think NTUSA is well worth the subscription price. It *is* an expensive magazine, though. The artwork is gorgeous, and it covers a lot of the series not available in the US. I want to read about anime I can't go out and buy/rent, though reviews of some that I can are good too.

I also, not being strapped for cash, enjoy NewType. It has a lot of good info on upcoming anime series - it really helps me decide which anime I want to buy in advance.

In that way, it helps me save money buy helping me avoid series I wouldn't like. Then again, it also costs me money by introducing me to series I wouldn't otherwise hear about. Oh well, nothing's perfect.
