this morning i woke up, and my sisters dog, Nelly was in my room, SO I put nelly on my bed and he pees on my bed, but that's besides the point

A knock at the door appears, and a police officer arrived! (ohhh scary!) and he tells my mother than one of her checks were stolen! (And at that moment, i was scared because i didn't know if meant somebody stole her check, or a check she used was stolen) But it turns out some identity theif guy stole it from my mom. Luckily he was caught and stuff and my mom has to change some stuff, like her checking account and stuff

First of all, that's a yucky way to wake up. :( However, I'm glad the thief was caught! That's pretty scary.

Unfortunately Identity Theft is becoming more and more common in today's society. While it is getting easier for them to get your information, it is getting harder for the victims to work things out with creditors and it almost always destroys one's credit ratings. In most cases it takes years to get one's life back into financial stability. Moral: as many of you reach adulthood there will continue to be more and more ways this can be accomplished. Be very careful in regard to giving out any personal information over phone, Internet, etc.

I have heard where even cashed or checks that have written out to someone or a company have been used over by using something to remove the pen ink so it can used over by the criminal.

That kinda reminds me of the time when at 3:00 in the morning, the police showed up at our door and informed my parents that our truck been stolen and rolled over. But our truck was also parked out front of the house, which was odd :eyebrow:

But the policemen insisted that they had to make sure that all the drivers in the house were present, so my parents drug me outta bed. I stumbled out, stared blankly at the policemen in a sleep addled state and then they went on their way, saying that it must have been another identical truck.

Yeah, that whole incident still doesn't really make too much sense to me either. Weirdness :eh:

Precisely why I almost never carry checks with me. But yeah, that is freaky. Many new functions avaliable on the modern day internet now don't help alot against the war against identity theft either.

Consider your mom lucky in more ways than one.
When I was about ten some men came up to my maternal grandparents'
ranch and robbed them and tied them up.It got on the news. :(
So there are worse things than identity theft.

 That reminds me of a old Bill Cosby comedy skit. He talks about his ex girl friend's family house how big it was and they had this little dog for protection and he says that the way the dog would let them know someone was in the house "He would Pee all over the house" The father would be sitting in his chair "Someone must be in the house, my leg is wet."
I don't remember the title of the record (I am talking a old LP record) but the skit was "$75 Car"
Talk about cats I have 5 of them and one of them as targeted several things in the house for peeing including my bed a couple of times. I just close my door and watch him when he walks in. Just as long has he don't teach the others. :mutter:

They demonstrated on the evening news once how people do that. It's like... "Can you news people be anymore dumb? ._. "

BIC pens are generally bad to use on checks 'cause they come out the easiest using the technique demonstrated.

That's really good that the whole situation was taken care of. It could have been so much worse.
