How does a PTA meeting work, when you are homeschool?

I could see it now.

PTA meeting at home*

Teacher: your grades are slipping! What do you have to say for yourself?

kid: I blame the teacher! She is mean and gives me too much homework to do!

Mother: But I'm your teacher and how can you say that I'm mean?

I don't really like them, because, my parent I think sometimes scares the teacher. I am embarassed of some of the stories that my parent brings home.

When I'm doing bad I hate them, when I'm doing good I like them. Simple enough.

The Teacher: This is a time for me to tell the parents how the student is doing.

The Parents: This is a time for us to find out from the teacher how our student is doing.

The Student: This is a time for me to hide in a closet and hope the teacher likes me more than I like the teacher.

I remember these...they used to be cool...my parents never really cared about them...they knew what my grades were...if they started to vary they asked me...so I never worried about parent teacher things. I could just lie though and say I was an angel in school.

I hate them. My dad expects me to be doing PERFECT and getting STRAIGHT A'S and if I'm not, when he comes home he makes me feel like I've let the whole family down. And that I'm not going to go to college and get a good job. And that all I ever do is draw pictures and listen to the radio (which isn't entirely untrue >.>). My mom's a little nicer about it, but you can tell she still expects me to be a perfect angel.

Hey, maybe if my dad actaully gave me lunch money I'd do better in school so I could THINK...

*is somewhat bitter about this topic right now*

yea they were annoying x.x i had one my senior year because my english teacher couldn't get me to stop drawing "instead of paying attention" so she sent me to councilor's office and then i had to have one with all my teachers... and my teachers were all like he's a good kid i just cant get him to talk at all because he's always drawing... and how they wished i'd do more school work even though i made good test grades
... then after that i kept drawing and ended up being the only person my english teacher had to make a perfect score on the Macbeth test least thats what she told me... and i didn't study and i oh so obviously wasn't paying attention cause i was drawing and we all know it's impossible to pay attention and draw at the same time... >_>

Yeah... drawing actaully helps me to pay attention better. I fall asleep otherwise...

Yes, I doodle all the time in my history class! My teacher evil eyes me the entire time. I just smile back. He's never complained, though. I think he's figured out that I have a short attention span with things I'm not really interested in.

I had a parent-teacher conference with my algebra 2 teacher last semester. She told me I "could" stay...apparently that was teacher language for, "you stay or I fail you." However, it got translated as, " run for your life." So when the bell rang, I was gone. My parents were kind of mad about that. She actually told them that I had been laughing the whole day. The story behind that being that it was PJ day and she had decided to sport PJ's with little kisses and tubes of lipstick on them and of course, a t-shirt that said, "Victoria's Secret." If I hadn't been laughing, I would have been crying. Granted, I probably could have been more tactful about it...but come now.

Overall, I despise PT conferences because teachers don't seem to focus on how well the child is doing or what they could be doing to help, it's all judged by how much they like them. The entire educational system in this area annoys me anyways.

Well, it used to be that my father would go in for the PT conferences that we had to have at least once a year- because my mom was the principal of my school and it would be unfair to the teacher if she went in. But now my dad is the dean of students at my school- who goes to the PT conferences now?

My bet is that my pet gerbil, Muad-dib, rides in on his motorcycle and discusses my behavior with my teachers.

Yeah, I'm homeschooled too so I don't really have to sweat it. But it is a little bit weird when your mom sits down at the table and starts discussing you with herself. . . lol, jk, actually I mostly school myself, she's just there to make sure I don't make bad grades. But it stinks not having somebody who can explain Geometry to me when I don't get it. (Which is just about all the time, lol). I have to take twice as long to sit down and figure it out. But other then that school isn't so tough, and I like being homeschooled, so life is good. :P

I thought...it was nice to get the day off... but otherwise i thought they were pointless (I was one of the better students) this opinion could change when i have kids... since I know I will care about teachers and how they are seeing my kids and how they were acting in class.

Why, thank you! He has a brother named Duke Leto, and right now they have grounded me because my behavior in school has been appalling.

Back on topic-
There is a guy in my class who is absolutely terrified of his mother when she is angry. He normally causes trouble, but now, my science teacher threatens to set up a Parent-Teacher conference with his mother to get him to behave. I also have another friend whose mom just randomly sets up Parent-Teacher conferences to check up on how she's doing in school. What I'm wondering is, why doesn't her mom just ask her?

my skool gives us the day off too so that's a bonus point...but when the parents get home, then they can be upset or they can be proud...i'm a ghud student! well at least i think i am, because my parents don't come home yelling at me or telling me i could have done better.
