Nicaragua

Well, as some of you are aware I went to Nicaragua last week. Well I thought I would let you people in on what happened there.
Day One: Sunday
Got up wicked early, and went to the airport. Flew to Houston. Met Paul Hamm the Olympic gymnast, and had my picture taken with him. He was a really nice guy, a friend of mine saw him in the bathroom and a couple of us went up to him after he was out. Flew to Managua, spent the night with a local missionary family.
Day Two: Monday
Woke up, and met a monkey, and got bitten by the monkey. We then went and visited the city dump. The city dump is a horrible place, it is full of trash, and there are fires burning everywhere. The worst part was that it was full of people. There are about 2000 people who live in that dump, surviving by scavengering through the trash for bits of food and things they can sell. Out the window we could see men, women and children picking though the burning rubble, with vultures circling everywhere. It was a truely sobering sight. Later that day we took a bus to a camp on the shore of lake Nicaragua. When you look out across the water you can see a volcano.
Day Three: Tuesday
I helped Paint one of the cabins at the camp.
Day Four: WednesdayThe kids arived! We held a camp for them in which we let them play in the lake (something they never get a chance to do normally), we tried to teach them some english words (I tought my group the words "poke," "tickle," "Jump," and "dance") they played sports, and we gve them a bible lesson. The kids had a wonderful time, and they stayed over night so we got very little rest.
Day Five: ThursdayWhen I woke up, what was in the rafters of my cabin, but a porcupine. MY friends and I were having a hard time decinging how to get it out when a small kid threw my sandal at it. This was pretty effective, so we all started throwing things at it. It eventually fell of the rafter and ran outsind, never to be seen again. We held a second day of camp with similar activitys, and after the kids left we had the rest of the day off.
Day Six: Friday
We had the local village kids come and have a day camp that was simmilar to the full day camp. We then went and had some Pizza by the pacific ocean.
Day Seven: Saturday
We left the camp, and headed back to the capital, Managua. We stopped by a market on the way, and I bought a hammock, a stuffed iguanna, a slingshot, a bag of coffee, and 6 liters of fanta. We got back to Managua, and I was once again bitten by the monkey.
Day Eight: SundayWe flew out of Managua, and arrived in houson late, and missed our flight. We waited at the airport for over 9 hours before being shiped to a hotel.
Day Nine: Monday
We got to the airport an hour before our flight. Half of our group got stuck in a line at the baggage counter, and missed another flight. I was in this unlucky group. After another 9 hours We flew out and got home without incident.
I may be able to get some pictures up here before long.
If anyone actually read all of this you should get a cookie.
