Extreme Makeover: Ash's Room Edition! (pics)

Ever wondered what it'd be like to be on one of those "extreme makeover" shows? ...Well, I didn't, but I was really really wanting to change up my room, especially after seeing Gypsy's apartment. Thus, right after Christmas break I broke out the paint, drop clothes, ladders and what have you to totally redo my room. Here is the several week story told with pictures

This was my desk area. This area didn't move any when I re-arranged it, but I did put up new posters and organize it a little better.
Oh, pics on the left (white walls) are the "before" and the ones on the right (yellow walls) are "after"

This was the entrance to my room, and probably the most drastic change. In the first pic, there is a bookcase on that wall just slightly off camera--which was later moved to across the room and a load of pics, posters and tidbits were put up in its place. This was the most grueling part (aside from actually painting the place, which took about 8 or so hours), and includes magazine cutouts, Maine state quarters, cd booklets, official posters, full blown door posters, photos, stickers, ticket stubs, post it notes, necklaces, promo posters and calendar cut outs. Oh, that black bar across the second one is the canopy bar for my bed.

This is another shot of the long wall between my door and my bed. The bed didn't move, just the bookcase. As you can see here, originally I had 4 full moon posters flanking the bookcase in the middle of the wall, which were all moved to make room for the poster collage. BTW, rolly chairs are NOT a good way to put up posters. I took a 5 foot face dive off one this afternoon, which wasn't fun. For reference, the bed didn't move.

Probably the most drastic example of change. As I said, the bed didn't move but I put up the iron rods for my canopy--I plan on getting one next week. Originally I had a lighthouse bedspread but that was changed out to match the new walls. Posters were put up, and you can see the corner to where the bookcase moved. Perhaps the one decoration that remained the same was the pics on top of my stereo--all from my Maine trips and little souvenirs to boot. ^^

And lastly, this is the wall just above the stereo system. The posters from above my desk and beside my bookcase were rearranged on this very yellow wall. I hope you enjoyed my little photo journal...now if you'll excuse me I'm going to continue to bask in my quite bright room and munch on some fried catfish.
Any questions?

Looks nifty, a nice improvement... I see you moved the book shelf and all your posters...looks nice. Also, if that color doesn't wake you up in the morning, I don't know what will.

Actually it's funny, I was going for more of a pastel-y yellow, but when I bought my sheets I held up a paint sample that was sort of golden. I decided to go with that, and it turned out uite a bit brighter than I imagined. In the morning with the light streaming in, it's a lot more washed out, those pics were just taken at night after my 3 and a half hour poster session.
But thanks for all the compliments guys! Mom loves it, Dad hates it. XD

Cool room how big is your room by sizes by the way Ashley?

good question Yashua! It's roughly 16.5 by 10 feet, the second largest bedroom in the house. ^^ My younger sibs are already duking it out for who gets it after I move out, and Mom of course wants to keep it open so I can visit.

*Laughs*
Well I think it's groovey, has a nice classical feel to it, perhaps it's all the yellow and such but it feels really 1910'ish, have you considered putting up more clasical settings such as laced curtains and even a lace canopy, now that you have it set up. One cool thing I would do is just jot over to Barnes and Noble, buy some classical novels from Sir Conan Aurthur Doyle or Juiles Verne (SP?) but with the hardback leather covers and grudge them up a little and set them on your tabel next to a noce colorwashed globe from a yardsale or something, that would really make it look classical.....hum, I'm starting to get a little too into this, I should stop now
*Laughs* I just thought of something else, buy all three of the LOTR books but with the older hardcovers (I think they still sell them at Waldens or Borders) to compliment your LOTR posters.....GAH, stop it already Archan!
God Bless,
Archan

And I thought I was an anime nut
I so wish I could afford loads of posters. Or just a photo printer. My room would be Mecha, Cool Guys, and cute Girls
Anyway great job. Coolness. My mom would like your room. She loves yellow.

Lol, no I hadn't thought of doing something "classical". I thought it had more of a quirky feel than "vintage". See, at first I was gonna go all out seaside theme, but then I was waiting at the olive garden and boom! The color scheme hit me. Green, yellow, perhaps a bit of dark red...so then I started to look for sheets like that, got paint to match....and it sort of evolved from there. As I said I was very inspired by Gypsy's all anime/video games posters walls so I sort of did a massive artistic collage reflecting my own interests. ANYWAY, I never thought about it as 1910s-ish...great now I'll have to get like a gone with the wind poster or something. XD

Heh, actually half of my anime posters were a birthday present from Gypsy last year. The FMS ones I bought slowly on ebay...I didn't realize how many I had til I tried to put them up all over my room pre-makeover. It IS a little humbling though...even if it's a hobby I have under control, it's very expensive and sometimes it's a reminder to me that I should spend my money elsewhere and invest in things that will REALLY last (aka "kingdom work"). Anyway, thanks for the compliments! I'm glad your mom likes it. I can't wait to move to my own home and decorate my whole house. It'll be so much fun!

Tee hee,
Perhaps it's the photos, but it strikes me as vintage....though I must admit all of Gypsy's posters give it the quirky flare it needs....
LOL, a Gone With The Wind Poster.....I would actually like to see that followed through for some weird reason
But honestly, you could execute it very well with just some tan or golden lacing here and there, I think your canopy would make it pop particullarily well, thats if you wanna make it vintage.....
That or more LOTR's posters and whatnot or even photos altered in PS to appear classical in some pewter or old wooden frames (You graphic art major you.....
).....Gah! Didn't I say I'd stop this???
Either way the room looks great, I can definately say it's a room I wouldn't forget anytime soon
God bless,
Archan

Yay for posters! *highfives* Oooh... FullMoon... OOOH!! Aragorn!!! WELL! I can't say I like the light houses better than anime, but! Other than that I like your room much better now! Yellow is such a cheery color. ^^
I gave my room a make-over last year. I doubt I even have any before pictures, but that's probably a good thing. It was soooo messy, and all the posters I had up were literally about to tair off the walls. And even now, you can't tell I'm an anime fan just by walking into my room. What stile right out is I'm one of those obsessive color freaks. >.>

wow, looks great, girl! so many posters and pictures...that's the way my room was at my dad's. except my sheets didn't match and the walls had some ugly pattern on them and I had a blanket on the window to keep the light out. XD;; *doesn't have an eye for decorating*

While it does look warm and fun, your pictures remind me a little more of the inside of a giant school locker then a room.
A place full of posters, magazine cut-outs, gym shorts, books, and where you may occasionally spend the night (or second block when you fail to relent your lunch money to the local bully).
Very nicely done Ashley.

Cool! Well, sans the window-thing. I don't mind light so much when I sleep (in fact I sleep better with a little light over pitchblack) but noise I'm real sensitive to. But yay, glad you like it! You'll have to come party in it someday. XD

Haha, I never thought of it that way! Actually, two of the pictures DID come from the inside of my locker--right underneath the beautiful Aragorn poster are 2 line art drawings. Gypsy sent those to me on the first day of each semester my junior year--they're drawings of her, Shatterheart, and myself. I put them in my locker so when I opened the door, I saw my friends and it helped me make it through the insane asylum that is high school life. When I graduated I lovingly transferred them to my walls at home.

EEEE! It came out great! And judging from the pics...it actually IS the same color as my room! (or very close! haha) It almost makes me want to clean my room...XD
So, when are you gonna invite us out there to have a look in person? LOL jk
