Now I am a Christian and all but I need help. I had quite a lovely chat with this atheist I knew. He stated how God is "evil" to kill mankind and curse us and promise us pain and misery if we don't worship him, believe in him or to curse us for others actions. I don't believe God does this but it says something similar like that in the Bible. Can anyone help me clarify this?? :sniffle:

First off God created us witha free will. We are not robots. In that free will we deicided to sin.
For example, Why does an innocent teenager lose his life to a drunken driver? Because the driver is a sinner who chose to operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. You can't always blame God for our or someone elses mishaps. Everything has a cause and effect... God doesn't want harm to come to his children, God speaks of the one who wants to destroy us-- Satan. It's not fair to blame God for the actions of another-- we have free will. God wants us to freely choose, including love. Love isn't love if it's forced. If God was selffish, then he would have created us all like robots. Robot do what they are programed to do... Just remember we have a free will.

Romans 6:10: The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.
Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Sin is evil, God is good. Sin has no presents near God or heaven. When we ask God for forgiveness he forgives our sins and past. If you don't repent, you are still filled with sin. He doesn't have to forgive our sins but he does. A selfish God wouldn't forgive sins so easily. A selfish God wouldn't give everyone the chance to accept his "gift" of enternal life. A selfish God wouldn't try to do all he can to help and comfort you. But he does. Selfish people usually do things to benefit themselves. God does what he can to help others. Jesus's life and death in the world is a great example of how determined/willing He is to help everyone. He lived a sinless life and still died for us. So, is God selfish? I don't think so.

God doesn't put a gun to our head and tell us what to do. We all have a free will to either accept his gift of enternal life and live accordingly or reject it.

Scarlet-scars and agafas said it best. Evil only happens because Satan has dominion over the world. And who's fault is it? Our's. When Adam and Eve gave in to Satan, they gave dominion over to him, and he will have it until the end. And we were destined to burn with him in the lake of fire for our sins. But because God does indeed love us so much, He sent His one and only perfect Son to suffer and die. Jesus is part of the Trinity and therefore part of God, so technically, God had a part of Himself come down to earth incarnated as a human being, and He suffered horribley and died for our sake. He took the burden of all of our sins upon Himself so if we would simply accept Him as Savior and follow Him, we could live eternally with Him in paradise. We don't deserve it, but He loves us so much that He would make the greatest possible sacrifice for us. No, God does not hate us, nor is He evil. He loves us more than we can imagine. All we must do is follow His example and be the best witness possible to others. ^^

Also,
If you choose to rob a bank and you get caught and punished, who do you blame, yourself or another? If you see someone being picked on by a bully and you have the ablity to stand up and try to protect him, do you? If you don't help your just as guilty has the bully. You are letting it happen. So many people want to take the blame off themselves and put it on someone else or give excusses. People need to stop blaming others for their own actions and take responsibility and the punishment that comes along with their actions. I mean, if you freely choose to reject God how is that God's fault? It's not.

Edit: God is loving, but dont' forget He is also a Just God. To be just He must take no part in evil or sin. But being the loving God He is, he is always willing to forgive them. We all have choices we need to make...

Some things he said

Is hell a good place to go? If it is not and god sends you there that is an act of evil in my book. How do you take it?

Jealousy and love does not go hand in hand. Last time I check jealousy is a bad emotion. How can you contribute that emotion to god? I know the bible says he is that way but it doesn’t make it right. Like sending most people to hell. Just because god is doing it doesn’t make it right.
First Corinthians 13:4 love is not jealous, it does not brag and is not proud.
Does this sound like god to you?

Two different things here. Either he wants peasants or he wants us with freewill. And if he is going to let us have our say then why punish us for making up our mind? Is he giving us a choice or not?

A lot of things about the bible is unclear, and just backwards. Don’t want mindless slaves but yet will punish us for not doing what he wants. So he wants us to believe in him out of fear. Is that better?

How does god having sex with a virgin and giving birth to jesus make everything ok?

Why do we not deserve gods love? He made us. That is like having a kid and then saying that he doesn’t deserve your love. Would you ever say that about your kid? How is that love for us?

*hug* Ahh, these kinds of situation are hard! I'll answer what I can...

Think of it this way - a mother told her son not to touch her curling iron because he would get burned. If he touched it and got burned, then it would be HIS fault, his mistake which he would learn from. He didn't get burned because his mom punished him for doing something wrong, he got burned because he didn't listen to his mothers warning. Does that make any sense? ^^;;

How does god having sex with a virgin and giving birth to jesus make everything ok?
He's getting christians confused with mormans. We don't believe God had sex with Mary. She was still a virgin when she was pregent with Jesus, thats why it was so unusaul.

Why do we not deserve gods love? He made us. That is like having a kid and then saying that he doesn’t deserve your love. Would you ever say that about your kid? How is that love for us?
We don't deserve God's love because we've all sinned and betrayed him. But he loves us uncondisionally.
