edit: if this topic gets locked, please sond hesitate to send me a pm!

now, i have no idea where to put thes (maybe in bible study? but it's not much of... bible study i suppose)

Anyway, some people (mainly protestants) say that Satan was a fallen angel. I know there were other explanations. I think the catholic church had a differnet response to it. I always thought it was like this

God made man, but God GAVE man free will, so because of our free will. WE created sin. And the whole serpant thing in genesis, could of been used to interpret as evil.

Seriously though, i have no idea. Some people please clear this up for me ^^;;

Somehow I see this thread as getting locked...but, I'll try and offer my commentary on it.

The Bible never says flat out that Satan was a fallen angel, the closest it comes is in Isaiah:

12 How you have fallen from heaven,
O morning star, son of the dawn!
You have been cast down to the earth,
you who once laid low the nations!

13 You said in your heart,
"I will ascend to heaven;
I will raise my throne
above the stars of God;
I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly,
on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain.

14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High."

15 But you are brought down to the grave,
to the depths of the pit. - Isaiah 14:12-15

God is PROBABLY talking about Satan there (I haven't read the rest of the passage, so I don't know the context).

The serpent in Genesis is never referred to as Satan, though it could be. Jewish folklore has the serpent as Lilith, but that has no Biblical evidence (look it up on google if you want more info on Lilith).

As far as the free will thing goes, all I'll say is I don't know, and it doesn't matter to me. All I know is I have free will, and that's what is important.

Kae nailed it on the head--I really think this subject is far too disputed to be discussed on site, and especially since it's a core belief it's going to get ugly fast if people disagree. However, I do know that CDLViking or Rev. Doc, the catholic and protestant clergy on site here respectively, could probably help you find some answeres if you want to PM them.
