gift ideas needed please

Postby olorc » Mon Dec 20, 2004 11:02 am

okay, in my bible study I need to get gifts for some people. Almost all of them are girls. I like to give stuff that is creative, yet useful, -or- funny.
Age range of those getting the gift: late teen to 20's.
The gifts need to be  and under $10  :eyeroll:
Run the race so as not to be disqualified from the prize.
98% of the teenage population does or has tried smoking pot. If you're one of the 2% who hasn't, copy & paste this in your signature.

Hmm... Tough question. Possibly some nice scripture engraved metal bookmark type things? Not funny really, but an idea. There are a ton of things that would be appropriate at Christian bookstores.

Check out like a Hallmark store at your local mall or somthing. Jewelry boxes can run anywhere from like 5-25...*shrug* Candles always make a cool gift...um..glass stuff is cool...like weird bottle/vase/sculptures. *shrug* But what do I know, all the girls in that age bracket I know want knives or fire making objects...

I was going to suggest gift certificates, too. Maybe places like Borders or Best Buy..?
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

I'm not sure it'd be a good idea to get me either one of those.

Lots of Christian bookstores have little small statueary things that are always neat, like little candle holders; decorative yet pratical. Or is there a special trip you guys made together, like to a concert or something? You could get something related to the event and everyone would remember it. The engraved bookmarks is an awesome idea, but you'd have to find a place to do it for fairly cheap.

Yeah, I'd say gift cards or some cute trinket from a Christian Book store, as others have suggested. Honestly, I'd go for the gift card.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

When in doubt, give food.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

In my gift exchange there was a guy who got a yo-yo that vaunted it's indestructable plastic and a hammer. The yo-yo had a message that read "the hypothesis" and a the hammer that read "the experiment". Cheap plastic it turns out. One of the guys got a homemade meat loaf, another got duct tape, pens, needle-nose plyers, and superglue (he's nuts, he and a friend once made and busted a pinata full of chocolate pudding), one girl got a sushi dinning set in green because her gift giver knew green was her fav. color. Just some ideas from our group.
