Ok, there are three friends and you, each have hats, two have white hats, other two have black hats.

There is a wall in the middle of the room where the four dudes are! On one side of the wall, theres three of the dudes, all lined up single file facing the wall. And the other side one dude facing the wall also.

The point is for you and your friends to figure out what color hat they have on, you need to figure out the color of your hat!

Any of your friends can answer if they figure it out.

Your the person in the middle of the three dudes, and the person's hat in front of you is white!

You can't talk, look around, or move! The only point is to figure your hat color, if you guess wrong, well then........

Ask questions if confused.

just look, the wall is reflective??? so you'd automatically know

or

you gave the hats out, so you knew from the beginning?

I ask the guy at my left whats his hat color using sign language.

I believe using sign language would violate the "no move" rule, and how would you see his response?

I know the answer, but I don't want to give it away to anyone trying to figure it out. I'll give a hint though, if you want to see it:

Is whistling, singing etc. allowed?

what if that wall was one of those police see through walls? that'd be easy then.

It seems that everyone, excepting termyt, I believe, is looking at this problem in the wrong way. The point is not to find a clever way to circumvent the rules, but to logically solve the situation (which is possible). For the purposes of the riddle, it is impossible for you to see anything other than the person directly across from you or to communicate with them in any way (excepting the other people, if they figure out the color of their hat).

No, see through walls guys, and you can't see anyone on your left!

Only the person in front of you, and behind you which you can't see.

No moving, UC and termyt are a great help, listen to them. ^^

I think I know it, I PMed Beast with my suggestion on the answer and reasons why I think its that.

My logic professor gave us a problem similar to this one. He also tried to convert us all to atheism. That was a weird class.

View the attachment. It was stated in a confusing manner. Initially I thought they were all equal distances from the wall, in three seperate, one-person lines, which made the problem considerably trickier.

Okay, I have the answer. Hmm, should I post it now, or wait so more people can figure it out?

I do. Once I had the proper setup of persons in mind, I thought it was actually easy. Prior to understanding that, I'll admit I was fairly puzzled. Meanwhile, my thoughts:

Turns out my guess was correct and my reasoning was spot on.

It took me a while to understand the riddle... and also a while to understand the answer.. <____<;; (partly because of my not-so-good English knowledge)

But now i got it. I'm gonna tell it to my friend who loves riddles.

I got it right. It took me a while to understand the question, but it was actually fairly easy.
