What are the duties/responsibilities of a mod/admin?

YOU TELL US "uc"

Collectively the moderators read every single post (theoretically). We all have different portions of the site that we generally moderate, though all of us have access to all portions. But no, I doubt any of us have enough free time to read everything.
This is also a classic example of why artists do not like having their work flipped right to left.

question! do you read PMs as well? i've always wondered about that. or can you guys even do that?

No we do not read the PMs. We read ones that are sent to us, but we do not invade the privacy of members.

May I chime in my good sense?
Mods and Admins are in many ways janitors for forums. We clean the mess, rearrange things if needed, and build a few shelves here and there. Its not all glamorous.

Let's not forget their weekly session of troll smashing, which they do very well I may add.

I prefer calling it "forum sanitizing". Luckily, I have yet to face trolls on my forums, so I haven't had to use my "sanitizer". *Pats semi-automatic.*

You guys have it ALL wrong. We don't smash trolls.
We use dynamite on them.

If they're really bad, we put gasoline on them first.

The duties of mods/admins
*Troll walks in*
Mod's duty: beat the troll within an inch of his life
Admin's duty: beat the troll three more inches

What exactly is the difference between a mod and an admin?

mods and admins...
I think this would be a good example:
Admins: are like the store director. The MAIN man, what they say goes.
mods: are like supervisors; each have their own department they watch over. They have some power but not the final say-so.
It's just a level of authority.

Agasfas pretty much hit the nail on the head...except technically the admins have access to the very bowels of the system. Mods have a more limited ability.
Also, while it may be true that admins are higher than mods, as much as possible we really try to listen to what everyone on staff has to say about a subject. Sort of like a grand council or a cabinet--I try to listen to what everyone thinks and then make a decision based on that information. Also, mods don't get in trouble if they act on something without consulting someone...it's a trust thing...I trust everyone here to make the right decision even when I'm not around to make it sort of deal.

The best thing I believe that the Mods do is interact with the members. they aren't some watcherd that hover over the boards and slap anyone that steps out of line but they develop friendships and make jokes with all the 'underlings'

Yes, I fall into an uncontrollable fit of laughter every time I say theoretically as well. Theoretically, one could last for several days if I said theoretically often enough, theoretically.
One note: the majority of what I do is clean up messes (double posts, unneeded threads). Real action (ie banning trolls, making decisions with the rest of the administration) is generally rare.
