Needless to say... I, and probably many others, am extremely disappointed in him. Up until I considered him one of my role models, because he seemed so kind and selfless and pure. Today my dad showed me an article on his favorite sports news page he can't tear his eyes off of that Michael Phelps was arrested for drunk driving. This was as very immature desition, not to mention illegal.

I think I'm going to pray for him. I don't know what his story about this is, but what I'm hoping is, he's still everything I thought him to be.

I'll post more information as soon as I fine it. For now... >.>

Edit: For those who don't know, the title is a play on an AIM icon I made that said "Michael Phelps swims faster than you"

This reminds me of my province's premier (governor)... he went to Hawaii and got arrested for drunk driving ^^ Pretty funny seeing his mugshot... well he's not a very favored man, but heh, what a role model for the province! *if he can do it, than so can we!*

well first off our only role model should be Jesus Christ cuz i mean he is perfect! and i think it says somewhere in the bible that we should not well have a man as a role model but only Jesus?

Yeah exactly we're all sinners in this world. Even when our wordly role models let us down, we need to rely on Christ as the ultimate role model.

Celebrities, err......
I wished people would choose different role models. People are always so eager to pick role models that really don't represent the ideal virtues we really want. True, no one is perfect. But the people who really have the most impact in our lives are the people we meet and know in everyday life. There are so many examples such as teachers, parents, a friend, your pastor, police officers etc.. Why pick a celebrity as a role model when you can't really relate to them in most cases? Also, most likely your never meet them, or if you do, it'll either land you in jail for about two days or you'll have the great oppertunity to have a good meeting w/ one of their body guards :P. This is totally beyond me.

Umm... sorry to burst your bubble but Pauly Shore is better. Nah, I'm just kidding.

But seriously, if I had to choose a Celebrity I would pick Mr. Rodgers. No joke. He was a pretty inspirational person to many kids.

There's nothing wrong with having human role models. Phelps obviously made a mistake, but I think you all may be a little harsh towards him. Or would you rather face immediate condemnation from those around you with out being able to explain yourself or provide mitigating circumstances?

In his letters to Thessalonica, Paul recommends that they imitate him – a human with faults. Not because he was perfect like Christ, but because he was a reflection of Christ and in every thing he did, he did it to bring glory to God and salvation to the Thessalonians.

You certainly should not model your entire life after Phelps. If you were doing that before this drunk driving incident you were treading on dangerous ground. The only complete example is Christ himself, but many others have gone before us, paving the way on how to do this or that. It is only natural, and even wise to follow in the footsteps of those who have gone before us.

If you are an athlete striving to make the Olympics – or just be the best you can be in your sport, then by all means choose an athletic role model and follow him or her as it pertains to athletics. Phelps seems to be a good example of an athlete. He excels at his sport and he is a good sportsman. Those are admirable qualities worth imitating. I would not, however, take any driving tips from him or ask him for interesting ways to spend my spare time.

It’s good that you are disappointed and it’s healthy to express it, but please season your disappointment with compassion. Compassion is what I hope for when I slip.

ROTFL! X3]Compassion is what I hope for when I slip.[/QUOTE]Exactly, no one wants everyone to start hating them and think that everything they did right was fake just because of one mistake. Which is why I think we should pray for him. :3
