Anime Angels: 404'd again!

Has anyone else been unable to get into Anime Angels tonight? This morning it was fine, but tonight I keep getting the 404. Does anyone know what's going on?

Nope. That's weird, though.

Off-Topic ~~ CAA is unavailable for me alot. I have cable internet, so speed isn't a problem, but a lot of times, while I'm in CAA, things load really slow, and it'll just die on me, bringing me to leave for a few minutes before it's available again..... V_V

its done that to me a couple times sunako and i also have cable but oh well as long as its still working i dont mind the slow load times

Some of that depends on the load on the server as well as the speed of your own connection. It happens to me as well, although on dail up it isn't as noticable.

AA looks OK for me this morning, The Melody. I hope it's nothing serious.

As far as CAA dying, part of it may be our server--we don't have our very own all in a nice air conditioned room by its lonesome; we share a box with several others from what I understand. But trust me, the staff is very keenly aware of this and we're trying to talk to our company/consider other places.

As for AA, I know what that feels like. I do hope we can provide as nice of a refuge to AA as they have provided to us in the past.

Melmak, I'm not seeing a 404 -- according to my local name servers, http://www.animeangels.net doesn't even resolve to an IP address. However, the domain name information lists it as still valid, so this must be a problem with the hosting company.

I tried accessing AA directly through my modem (instead of through our router as usual) and it gave me a "504" error message.

Maybe I ought to try a different browser... (Edit: Didn't work.)

for me it delays for about 20 seconds and then says "www.animeangels.net could not be found." o_o

That's exactly what I keep getting. It's good to know I'm not going crazy.

504 is a server generated HTTP code. I'm not even getting that far (my results are the same as Shiroi's).

I get no name server info either, so i wouldn't be able to get there. Anyone know an IP that we can try to direct connect to?

I still don't have any problems getting to AA. I know that doesn't help you all, but could it be the way we are trying to connect? All I did was click the link at the top of this page. I'm using IE 6.0 through a LAN connection at work.

Are you caching it, per chance? When I ask my servers,

% nslookup www.animeangels.net
Server: wouldnt-you-like-to-know
Address: xx.xx.xx.xx

[loooooooooooooooong pause]
*** wouldnt-you-like-to-know can't find www.animeangels.net:No response from server

Unless there's some sort of routing problem ...

I'm thinking I should try to get a hold of our other mods to see if they know what's going on. I've tried everything I can think of on my end from checking spyware to trying other browsers and I still can't come up with anything, so now I'm really concerned.

I wonder if their DNS server failed, but the ones who can get through are still working on cached information. termyt, I assume you're using Windows. Pull up "Command Prompt" and type

nslookup www.animeangels.net

What do you get back? I can try hardcoding that into my DNS servers and see if it works. If it does, it's a bung DNS query (remote side's fault).

It seems to be working for me now.

Still dead here. Could -you- try that command (above), sheherazade?

I don't know what you mean that command?

I can get to anime angels using the link at the top of the page, the link in this thread for an earlier post, and the address http://www.animeangels.net.

I can get on using internet explorer version 6.0 and AOL 8.0. We have DSL hooked up to wireless.

No, what I mean is, Start > Run > type "cmd"

You'll get a C:\something\something> prompt.

Type "nslookup www.animeangels.net"

Paste the results from that command. I just fired up Windows XP Pro under Virtual PC and tried this, so I know this will work. I'm interested in what your computer thinks the IP address for AA is.

(Obviously, don't type the quotes.)

I think I may have figured something out; I'm going to e-mail D2M about it first and get back to you guys later.

AA works for me at home, but here on the Macs at school it's not connecting as well. I'll try that command prompt on Windows at home (does Win2000 have anything to do with it?)

I e-mailed D2M last night and I haven't heard back from her yet, but this is what I said to her (and I'll just quote my e-mail here so I don't have to try to explain again from scratch):

" wrote:For some strange reason, I got the idea to do a "whois" search on AA's domain name and to make a long story short, this is what I came up with:

1. The domain name is still registered under Keely's name.

2. The place that it's registered at, GoDaddy.com, had apparently on October 4-5 (just a few days ago) sent e-mails to all its domain registrants asking to verify their domain information.

I don't want to jump to conclusions, but I'm guessing that Keely may have gotten that e-mail from GoDaddy, but for some reason she either hasn't verified the information or it's just taking a long time to process. If I'm right about my suspicions, you may have to contact Keely about properly acquiring the domain name and verifying the information.

I guess the point is that I no longer think it's a technical problem so much as a communication misunderstanding... or something. ^_^; In any case, it's up to D2M now to get to the bottom of it.

I doubt it. The Win 2000 machine in my office can't connect to it either. Yes, please do try that command and let me know.

Well, D2M has switched the account info over to her name, and now AA is working fine for me. Try it again, everyone, just to see if works for you too! ^_^

The command doesn't work for me, Sooby. Probably because I'm inside a corporate fire wall.
