I am VERY disturbed...

...by some of the things that members here have said!
There are people on here who enjoy torturing living things. A lot of people. Many more than I could have even imagined! I never would have guessed that people on a CHRISTIAN BOARD would EVER even think of doing something like that!
You guys know who you are. I am very ashamed at you. This is NO WAY to enjoy God's creation! God loves all His animals; why else would He save them on the Ark?!
I'm on the verge of sobbing here after reading some of those "certain" posts...this is absolutely HORRIBLE!
Doing such things is a shameful thing to do, and is the main reason why I have grown to have a certain dislike for humanity. It's absolutely ridiculous! Tormenting creatures for fun is EVIL. It's something that DEMONS are expected to do, not humans!
It's one of the few things that makes me cry. I have nightmares about it. Animals are very sensitive creatures, whether they be mice, cats, dogs, or monkeys. Even bugs have social structures!
It's this kind of thing that makes me wonder why God bothers with us at all...I'm a sworn defender of my Lord's earth, and it is my innocence--I have killed nothing in my entire life--that makes me so sensitive to this subject.
Please, guys, have mercy! For the sake of God, have mercy! People who do this are, in my mind, no worse than terrorists. In the minds of the animals that we torture, we are as bad as Saddam Hussein himself!
Go read the "Guiltiest Fun" thread and see what I mean...

::pat, pat:: I know how you feel. Everyone in my family are all big animal lovers, so I know exactly where you're coming from. But.. uh.. could the people who posted here at CAA about it.. perhaps they had been joking(?). I haven't seen any serious ones, if any, here.

No, they were not joking. I won't mention names, but someone forced two mice to fight each other when they were stuck in glue traps (and a fairly cool member too! At least, I thought they were cool...). Other people like to put frogs out on busy streets to watch them get run over. Other people burn bugs.
No, they weren't kidding. One said I should "loosen up". That was it. I went off...

............. wow .............
Geesh... "you should loosen up?" Ha! I'd like to see what they would think if they had been in the position of one of the mice.

Yeah. If I'd been there, I don't really want to think about what I would have done...
I know that once, there was this goldfish incident. Some teens at the church were throwing live goldfish against the walls because they thought it might be funny. I almost clubbed them (with my hands, not with a stick. o_O)...but I kept myself under control and just started screaming and sobbing...

Ugh, that makes me angry.... If I had been there, I would have taken the goldfish[es] away from them, and then.... Yes... It's good you were able to keep yourself under control, though. I don't understand people. We get so much fascination out of destruction and misery, unless, of course, it involves our own selves.

I work at a vet so I have to love animals.
The only creature's I don't like are mosquitos and flies which I'll kill without hesitation.

Mosquitos are horrible. I have a faint belief, though, that there must be a "positive" reason as to why they exist on this earth. Perhaps, one day, we'll find that they cure some deadly disease. Meanwhile, I'll continue exterminating them one by one.

I think the only true "purpose" they really have is population control of animals and humans through spreading diseases like West Nile and Malaria.

I don't kill animals unless I need to. For example if I find spiders in the house I more often than not trap them with a jar and then take them outside. I lift the jar and they run away. Whereas with mosquitos I kill them if they are near me or trying to suck my blood or inch-ants if they are trying to bite me. They hurt like crazy!
Surely those are exceptions to the killing rule? You can't tell me you never stood on an ant or swatted a mosquito!

I agree that torturing animals for fun is wrong, so don't misunderstand me. But you do realize that animals are lower than humans and don't have souls (meaning they don't go to heaven or hell), right? I kill harmful bugs if they invade my territory (meaning indoors or around my body). I happily leave them alone if they aren't doing anything to me.

I'm having great difficulty finding the thread that spawned this one; I'd appreciate a direct link, please.
Also, posting threads like this to publicly berate other users, even if done with good motivations, is not the best way to handle threads that concern you. Let the moderation staff do their jobs if there is a content issue that needs to be looked at; that's what we're here for.

everybody sins. I thought (maybe i'm wrong) that the 'guiltiest fun' thread was full of people confessing that they actually did something like burning bugs, and now they look back on it with embarrassment and a little shame. Of course, it could be that the thread is turning into a 'i did something worse than you!' contest.
one more thing to think about: is it worse to burn bugs than to step on/swat/spray them?

Thread found. I'm going to close this one, because it's either going to blow up or turn into a repeat of what was already said in the Guiltiest Fun thread.
Again, please use some discretion before opening threads of this type. I respect your convictions, but posting things like this doesn't make people clean up their act; it just makes them mad. Bring these things to our attention next time if you have concerns about them.
