When your SN means something else...

...than what you originally intended for it.

I just found out something awkwardly interesting. When I chose my DA account name, "Mave" was my first choice. Someone already had it. Bummer. So I used "mavet", adding T as the initial of my last name to Mave. Yeah, no one else had this name so I happily used this SN for DA eversince.

One day, out of pure curiosity, I googled "mavet" to see whether my DA website appears in the search results. I found out more than I seeked.

"The figure of Mavet (Death) in the Bible is identified as the Malach ha-Mavet (the Angel of Death)."

"The ancient Hebrews thought 13 was unlucky because the thirteenth letter in the Hebrew alphabet is the letter M, which is the first letter in the word mavet, meaning "death."

"The most terrible of the angels of destruction is the mal'akh ha'mavet (the angel of death), who waits at the bedside of the sick, a lethal drop of venom at the tip of his sword; this angel of death, who, like other angels, originally personified a function of the divine will, gradually acquires a definitely demonic individuality. He is linked and at times identified with Satan (who tempts and accuses), the evil inclination, and Samael, the prince of demons." ~ according some rabbinic legend
<------ @_@;;;;; oh noooooooo, hope this isn't true!

I know very little about angels and those who know me, know that I usually avoid this particular topic. Ain't it weird how I unintentionally selected a name without realizing what significant meaning it might have to it? >_<;;;; An angel of death too, oh man.....

o_O Copy ally-san's reply and paste it here. *lol*

Yeah, I bet some people think my name means I'm goofy or insane (like another word for looney) ...which I am, but I didn't intend my name to mean that. I made my name mixing two names (I'm not telling which) together. ^_^

That is kinda weird. Are you planning on changing your name on that site or are you just gonna keep it?

Poor Mave!!! :(
*huggles Mave*
I've had this same problem...one time I thought I had made up a really cool username, and used it for a year until I found out that there was this really freaky/shamelessly immoral person on the internet using the same name!!! :( :(
And I hope no one thought it was me...*squeal*
*big floppy hat appears*
*hides face under hat*
:red:
At least you came out and wrote about it instead of clamming up and having an insult-yourself-until-you-cry-and-hate-the-world-parade like I do. ^_^

Don't you believe it Mave! I don't for a second. The angel of death is a terrible and scary apparition to humans, perhaps, but hte angel of death works at the command of the Lord and has no power over the faithful. There is nothing evil about the angel of death.

Yeah for real since when is the angel of death evil? That info is false.

Ack, I didn't realize I was working alongside one with such awesome powers ----- neat. We shall conquer the world one day! mwahahahaha

LOL, okay so I'm just kidding with you once again.

Hmmm, true_noir_chloe means true (steadfast, loyal), noir (black), chloe (blossoming, i.e. youthful)

Okay, so I'm a loyal black blossom. Ooooo, we really shall conquer the world in our darkness. XDXD

What you're saying is probably true...I've never seen that in the Bible before.
I thought the Angel of Death was actually an angel, and have never read anything about it being a monster or a demon with dripping fangs or whatever...

Interesting. ^^

My name means Bodyguard. And no I'm not a melodramatic guy who goes around saying "I'll protect you my lady!" I picked it because it was my favorite movie and it sounded cool.

I never was good at picking usernames...I've come up with tons of them, but can never find one that nobody has...except for one.
I once used the name "Mcblorpendwoddle" as my pen name on Fictionpress.
So far, I've never seen it used anywhere...no wonder!
Toshles was another one of my names...never seen it used at all.
I like Toshles the best. ^^
It sounds so funny! But not cool...

Don't get so upset about it. As far as I know, Jews believe either that Satan is an agent of God, and in no way and enemy, or that Satan has no relevance in Judaism apart from the context of Job.

This does not, though, negate the fact that there is an enemy Satan! Two different people can have the same name. The stepfather of Jesus is not the same man who became the second most powerful ruler in Egypt.

As far as I can tell, the Angel of Death is an agent of God, not Satan. True, the Angel of Death is a fearsome destroyer... just read about the origin of the Passover in Exodus 12. Also see 2 Kings 19, esp. verse 35.

Wow that is freaky, but as the others said very false . . . the angel of death is under God and does His will with awesome powers! You could actually be proud of that, lol.
My names are always easy to figure out >_< I just use a fav char or whatever, lol

It was brought to my attention once long ago at Anime Angels that I've accidentally named myself after a snare drum. (I try hard not to be a snare to people -- honest! )

LOL guys to clarify this, I'm not upset about this. ^^ Thanks for the words of assurance, though! XD

I will not change the name since I choose to take up the suggestion to be proud of being on God's side with such mighty powers. <---- hohoho being whimsical here ;)

What DOES bother me are the websites that tell you to pray to these angels or give offerings. 0.o I googled around on for more biblical angels and found other disturbing stuff. It seems some ppl are pretty obsessed about angels in an unhealthy way. ^_^;;

=/ Yeah, it's sad when people raise up angels above God. My friend wanted an angelic name for a character of hers once, and when I googled "angel names" I got some pretty creepy stuff~

Colossians 2:18 speaks of those who worship angels: "Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you for the prize. Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle notions."

Well, give someone an inch and they will worship something from sandwiches to snails. The enemy finds ways to snare (heh... MelodyMaker I hereby dub you Mr. Snare) someone from the Lord. Sometimes it is the most unusual things imaginable.

On topic... a quick google and I find out that there is a whole region in Scotland called Lochaber. I knew I had some big ego but yeesh...

Interesting stuff! I research my names pretty carefully beforehand, so there's no weird meanings to mine... Hm, and yeah, it's annoying when you're trying to look up a literary allusion to an angel and get some pretty dark, unbiblical stuff.

by Xeno
Well my current name is part of a series of names I've had that contain these four letters. Originally I was Xenocide (named for the book by Orson Scott Card), not knowing that it really meant the killing of an entire species. I later shortened it to Xeno, because it was easier to type, but this simply means foreign. I also have the name XenoNoOni (it was given to me by a friend) as my AIM, MSN, e-mail, and chat room names, I later came to find out it can mean "demonic foreigner," or "Xeno's demon." How surprised I was. Yet I continue to use the name because it would be a hassle to change it.

Okay, let me guess what Lunis was put together from: Lou Niss? (j/k)

My name is just a modification of the word "calligraphic". I picked it because I registered on another forum to help someone out with the look of an ampersand ( & ).
